List and discuss ten possible cost drivers for an aircraft manufacturing firm.

In this module you will have an opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of mixed costs and their application in the aviation industry.

For this Case Study,  complete the three requirements below:

    1. ABC Airlines has calculated the total costs (fixed and variable) for the passenger service flights between Los Angeles, California and Orlando, Florida. The two methods used were the high-low method and the least squared method. Compare and contrast these two methods. Which one is the most reliable? What affect does an outlier have on the high-low method? Which method would you recommend to ABC?
    2. List and discuss ten possible cost drivers for an aircraft manufacturing firm.
    3. Refer to Case 6-46 at the end of Chapter 6.
      • Compute requirement 2, except you can build or use an existing Excel Spreadsheet to calculate the fixed and variable costs of the airport’s cost behavior pattern.
      • Also, complete requirement 4. The spreadsheet must accompany the submission.

For this case study, you will demonstrate your ability to correctly calculate the problem and demonstrate creative thinking by analyzing the case and answering the questions that are intended to interpret the data  Please refer to the case study section of the syllabus for additional guidance and your Case Study Rubric to review the criteria that will be used to evaluate and grade your  submission. This activity is due the last day of this module. If you have chosen to complete this activity as a group assignment (optional), one member of the group will submit the assignment. Include the names of all participating group members in the top left corner of the first page of the document.

Explain how traditional cost systems, using a single unit-level cost rate, may distort product costs.

Question 1. 1. (TCO A) Explain what a cost driver is and give an example. Explain what relevant range is. What is the relationship between a cost driver and a relevant range?

  1. (TCO B) Jones and Heather started the JH Widget Company in 2014 to manufacture widgets. They rented a building, bought equipment, and hired employees to work full time at fixed monthly salaries. Utilities and other operating charges remained fairly constant during each month. JH Widget Company sells each widget at $70 each. JH paid fixed costs of $5,850 per month and variable costs of $25 per widget. Jones and Heather are concerned about the break-even and probability. Using the equation method to do your calculations, explain to Jones and Heather how many widgets must be sold, and the totals sales revenue that must be reached, in order to break-even.

  1. (TCO C) There are basically two distinct methods of calculating product costs. Compare and contrast the two methods

  1. (TCO D) Explain how traditional cost systems, using a single unit-level cost rate, may distort product costs.

  1. (TCO F) During June, the Charleston Manufacturing Company’s costing system reported several variances that the production manager was surprised to see. Most of the company’s monthly variances are under $125, even though they may be either favorable or unfavorable. The following information is for the manufacture of garden gates, its only product.

    (1) Direct materials price variance, $800 unfavorable.

    (2) Direct materials efficiency variance, $1,800 favorable.

    (3) Direct manufacturing labor price variance, $4,000 favorable.

    (4) Direct manufacturing labor efficiency variance, $600 unfavorable.

Provide the manager with some ideas as to what may have caused the efficiency

    variances.

Question 2. 2. (TCO G) Eric Segal has just purchased the film studio of a movie company that specializes in love stories. The company did not try to estimate the cost of making a movie. Instead, it just gave the producer a budget and told him or her to make a movie within budget. Mr. Segal does not like the former movie-budget concept and desires to establish a formal cost estimation system. What are alternative methods of cost estimation that could be used in the movie making system? Briefly describe each method.

  1. (TCO H) Rick Godwin, CFO, discusses the pricing of a new product with the sales manager, John Tag. What are the steps taken to develop target prices and target costs? Discuss each briefly.

Question 4. 4. (TCO I) Describe the four capital budgeting methods. How would you determine which one to use?

  1. (TCO E) Gloria Enterprises reports the year-end information from 2014 as follows.
Sales (100,000 units) $250,000
Less _____. cost of goods sold 150,000
Gross profit 100,000
Operating expenses (includes $10,000 of depreciation) 60,000
Net income $ 40,000

Gloria is developing the 2015 budget. In 2015, the company would like to increase selling prices by 30%, and as a result, expects a decrease in sales volume of 15%. Cost of goods sold as a percentage of sales is expected to increase to 60%. Other than depreciation, all operating costs are variable.

Prepare a budgeted income statement for 2015.

Demonstrate the application of the six basic steps in the rational decision process of System 2.

The Human Resources Department of a corporation is preparing a series of training modules for its managers.  You have been asked to prepare one of these modules.  Prepare a PowerPoint presentation to address three learning objectives for your intended audience:

1. Explain the difference between System 1 and System 2 Thinking.

2. Demonstrate the application of the six basic steps in the rational decision process of System 2 Thinking as outlined in this week’s readings: Define problem, identify criteria, weigh criteria, determine alternatives, rate alternatives based on criteria, and determine optimal decision (Bazerman & Moore, 2013);

3. Introduce the managers to a minimum of three biases that can influence decisions that are made through both System 1 and System 2 Thinking.

When addressing objective #2 above, use a real or hypothetical example of a decision (Example: Selecting a supplier), at least three real or hypothetical alternatives (Example: Supplier 1, Supplier 2, and Supplier 3), and at least three criteria (Example:  Historical On-Time-Delivery Performance, Whether ISO 9000-Certified, Price) to demonstrate the application of the six basic steps.  You must arrive at and clearly state the optimal solution by using the six-step process.  You will find a good demonstration of how to apply these six steps in the videos provided in this week’s books and resources.

When addressing learning objective #3 above, select any three biases from among the three kinds of overconfidence biases presented in Chapter 2 of the primary textbook and the eleven other biases presented in Chapter 3.  Provide an example of each bias in your explanation that is not an example provided in the textbook.

Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as “speaker notes” for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists.

Support your presentation with at least three scholarly resources.  In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included.

Discuss the physical and chemical characteristics of sludge and other solids produced during wastewater treatment operations.

Discuss the sources of sludge and other solids from conventional wastewater treatment systems.

Question 2
Discuss the available technologies for dewatering sludge. Be sure and describe the benefits and limitations of belt filter presses compared to recessed plate filter presses.
Question 3
Discuss the physical and chemical characteristics of sludge and other solids produced during wastewater treatment operations. Be sure and provide additional focus on digested primary sludge and anticipated heavy metal content in sludge.

ALL ANSWERS should be at least 200 words in length.

IN APA FORMAT

You are required to use at least your textbook as source material for your response. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations.

Described the ethical obligations associated with the physician-patient relationship.

A physician who doubts the diagnosis of a patient should order a consultation. In this assignment, you will review a scenario in which a consultation was ordered for a patient, and you will analyze the ethical obligations involved in the physician-patient relationship.

Scenario

A family practice doctor has a female patient who is twenty-two weeks pregnant with her third baby. The first child was born at thirty weeks and survived; however, her second pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage at nineteen weeks. The patient would like to do all she can to have a successful pregnancy. As of today, the patient has no signs of premature labor, and her cervix is closed. Given her history, the family practice doctor would like to discuss the possibility of a cerclage with an obstetric consultant. Chances of cerclage helping the pregnancy along are one in ten.

On the basis of the above scenario, respond to the following questions:

  • Describe the ethical obligations associated with the physician-patient relationship.
  • Explain the outcome of this consultation with your justification.
  • Discuss what you would have done differently to handle the case.
  • Provide a real-life example of a consultation.

Compile your responses in a 3-to-5-page Word document.

Explain how (you as a manager) would hire, manage, compensate and motivate teams working under your leadership in order to meet the goals of the organization and Human Resource Management.

Twenty years from now, the typical large business will have half the levels of management and one-third the managers of its counterpart today.

Work will be done by specialists brought together in task forces (teams) that cut across traditional departments. Coordination and control will depend largely on employees’ willingness to discipline themselves—not by Human Resources.

Please write a word paper on the importance of Teams in the Organization.
