Explain how emotional responses may have contributed to the successful outcome of Chesley Sullenberger’s decisions in landing the plane.

Due today Sunday in 8 Hours or so.. No excuses please.. I am in a bind..

Experimental research helps you understand what occurs in the real world. Research is valuable because it enables you to study in a controlled environment. However, some real-life experiences cannot be replicated in the laboratory. Sometimes an interesting situation occurs, and researchers study it after the fact because they cannot create the same situation again. Under such circumstances, researchers look back at actual real-life occurrences and create theories based on what they discover. In this Application, you look back at a situation that already has occurred and determine how factors related to everyday decision making can be applied.

The assigned articles and videos review a real-life situation about a pilot who made the decisions necessary to land a plan on the Hudson River safely.

To prepare for this assignment:

Review the articles, “Hero Pilot’s Records, IQ Scores Released by School District in ‘Accident'” and “Chesley Sullenberger, Hero: How a Veteran Pilot Pulled Off That Amazing Landing.” Focus on Chesley Sullenberger’s intelligence.

Review the article, “The Hero of Flight 1549,” and the associated video clips. Think about which decision-making models that you learned fit into this incident.

You may also use the internet to research Chesley Sullenberger’s experience with Flight 1549.

Consider how potential emotional responses impacted Chesley Sullenberger’s decisions that resulted in his successfully landing the plane on the Hudson River.

The assignment (2 pages): APA (Cited resources including cited within written assignment)

•Explain how emotional responses may have contributed to the successful outcome of Chesley Sullenberger’s decisions in landing the plane. Be specific.

•Based upon what you know about the impact of emotional responses on decision making, explain how the outcome might have been different if Chesley Sullenberger was a less experienced pilot and why. Be specific.

What were the environmental and human health consequences.

Use the CSU Online Library to research a hazardous waste incident such as the Love Canal or Minimata Bay incident. Create a 7- to 10-slide PowerPoint presentation on the incident you choose. You should thoroughly describe the details of the incident and analyze the causes and effects. Your presentation should address the following

 Provide a brief history of RCRA and what aspects of waste it regulates.

 What was the cause of the incident? What types of waste were involved?

 What were the environmental and human health consequences?

 What regulations were in place at the time of the incident? Were they followed?

 What do you think could have been done to prevent the incident?

 Could this incident happen today with the regulations we have in place? Why, or why not?

Instead of using speaker’s notes, you will write a script and create a voice-over for your presentation. All sources used, including the textbook, must be cited and referenced according to APA style. Be sure to include in-text citations on your slides, and provide a reference slide that lists all of your sources.

Determines which theory best fits own personality development, applies self-observations.

Assignment 2: LASA 1: Development Throughout the Lifespan

Erikson and Freud are two of the few theorists who have developed a lifespan approach to development. Freud’s approach to development was psychosexual while Erikson’s was psychosocial. Even though Freud’s theory is better known, Erikson’s theory remains a leading and very much applied model in personality and developmental psychology today.

When considering these two stage-oriented theories, you can directly compare the majority of their stages. These are matched in the following table:

Approximate Age
Freud’s Stages of Psychosexual Development
Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial development
Infancy (Birth to 1 year)
Oral stage
Trust versus mistrust
Early childhood (1–3 years)
Anal stage
Autonomy versus doubt
Preschool (3–6 years)
Phallic stage
Initiative versus guilt
School age (7–11 years)
Latent period
Industry versus inferiority
Adolescence (12–18 years)
Genital stage
Identity versus role confusion
Young adulthood (19–40 years)
Intimacy versus isolation
Middle adulthood (40–65 years)
Generativity versus stagnation
Older adulthood (65–death)
Integrity versus despair

When considering Erikson’s eight stages of development, the way a person moves through each stage directly affects their success in the next stage. Their personality is being built and shaped with each stage. At each stage, there is a turning point, called a crisis by Erikson, which a person must confront.

In this assignment, you will observe or interview two different people, each at a different stage of development. For a third observation, take a look at yourself and the stage that you are in (this stage must be different from your other two observations).

  • Record your three observations in a template. Include the following information:
    • Name
    • Age
    • Gender
    • Current developmental stage
    • Status within the stage (i.e., identity achievement or role confusion)
    • Events that have lead to this status

Download a Development Template from the Doc Sharing area to record your observations.

  • Summarize what you have learned about psychosocial development through these observations/interviews.
  • Summarize the trends you see in your observations/interviews regarding psychosocial development.
  • How does movement through Erikson’s stages influence personality development? Again, be specific.
  • How do Erikson’s stages of development compare to Freud’s stages? How are they similar? How are they different?
  • Between these two theories, which one do you feel best explains your own personality development? Justify your answers with specific examples.

Write a 3–4-page paper in Word format. Insert your chart at the end of your paper. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M3_A2.doc.

Directions:

For this Assignment, Abstract and Position Paper, you will search for a scholarly journal to publish to. You will follow your selected journal’s guidelines American Journal of Nursing for creating a position paper, except that your word count (for the body section of your paper, which excludes the abstract, title page, and references sections) will be 1200-1800 words. You will write an abstract for your paper as if it were going to be published. (The abstract is not the type of abstract you would submit in a paper but one you would write if submitting a paper for publication.) If your selected journal has guidelines for the abstract, follow those guidelines.

You must support your work with at least eight scholarly peer reviewed articles. You must also link to the journal’s publishing guidelines, at the bottom of your paper. If there is no link, include a copy of the publishing guidelines in an Appendix to your paper.

You will write your position paper on your chosen policy change as if you were writing for your chosen journal. Your paper must include the following topics:

  • Abstract per instructions
  • Current situation necessitating the change
  • The proposed policy change
  • Agenda setting
  • A model or theory that can be used to bring about the change
  • Design strategies
  • Implementation strategies
  • Evaluation strategies
  • Conclusion

This Assignment presents a great opportunity for you to hone your writing skills and collaborate on working on an article for publication. You do not have to actually publish the article, but you may want to continue working with your group and your instructor to do so.

Discuss the specific issue and secondary issues and how they relate.

Read the case study to identify the main point and key players. You will summarize the main points and identify themes as if you were telling someone this case for the first time. When writing this part of the paper, it is helpful to think about the following questions:

• What is really going on?
• What are the main problems or main issue?
• How do the problems relate to each other?
• What are the underlying issues?
• How or why did these issues develop? Provide a brief description.

(a) Background statement to introduce what you will write about
• Summarize the scenario, but do not restate the scenario.
• Identify key points, the stakeholders, setting, and situation.

(b) Identify the problems or issues. Discuss the specific issue and secondary issues and how they relate.

(c) Consider relevant information and underlying assumptions. Some of the information in the case might not be useful to your analysis. Separate the facts of the case from assumptions. The more assumptions you make, the weaker your analysis will be.

(d) List potential solutions to the problem, and the pros and cons of these.

(e) Conclusion: Select one of your listed solutions and provide your reasoning for the selection.

Papers should include a title page, reference list (at least 2 academicals), and 3 pages of writing (title and reference page not counted). Double-space, using Times New Roman 12-point font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
