Describe how older age may compromise the acid-base balance processes. Be sure to include any changes associated with the kidneys and the lungs.

The normal pH range for systemic arterial blood is between 7.35 and 7.45. Any levels that drop below a pH of 7.35 is a condition known as acidosis. Any levels that rise above a pH of 7.45 is known as alkalosis. Acidosis can depress the central nervous system, which if severe enough, can lead to death. Alkalosis can overly excite the central nervous system causing muscle spasms, convulsions, and even death. Either end of the spectrum can result in an unwanted outcome. This Assignment will require you to look at four conditions: respiratory acidosis, respiratory alkalosis, metabolic acidosis and metabolic alkalosis.

Make sure to review the Unit 7 Assignment scoring guide located in Doc Sharing to ensure that your paper includes all project requirements. Research each topic in detail and include the following:

  • Define each condition by including the levels of PCO2 or HCO3- and the pH levels.
  • Identify at least three or more common causes for each condition.
  • Describe the compensatory mechanism for each condition in detail; include whether the kidneys or lungs assist.
  • Describe treatment mechanisms for each condition when the regular compensatory mechanisms are not working well.
  • Describe how older age may compromise the acid-base balance processes. Be sure to include any changes associated with the kidneys and the lungs

Describe how you would partner with local, state and federal governmental and professional resources as well as enlisting the help of the community at large.

Go to www.dhs.gov/national-infrastructure-protection-plan. Using the information you find here, in your text and class lecture write a 2 to 3 page paper in APA format that details how you would go about protecting critical infrastructure if you were an emergency management professional. Pick a high profile target in the area where you live or an area that you are familiar with and describe in detail how you would harden the target and make it less vunerable to attack.

Describe how you would partner with local, state and federal governmental and professional resources as well as enlisting the help of the community at large.

Examine budgetary issues such who will be responsible for funding: state, federal, or a combination of both.

  • CHIP
  • Veterans Healthcare Programs
  • PPACA
  • Universal Health Insurance
  • Aging and Chronic Care
  • Controlling the Costs of Medicare or Medicaid
  • Burden of Medicaid on State Budgets
  • Special Disease Topics: Human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS), Cancer, or Alzheimer’s

Criteria for analyzing the policy issue

  • Identify the committee that you will present your research in front of. Also include the names of the committee members.
  • Research the policy issue using the most up to date sources.

Your research should provide answers to the following:

  • Discuss the specifics of who will be eligible and who will be responsible for providing services.
  • Discuss the impact of your proposal on recipients and providers of care. Include eligibility requirements for receiving benefits, application process, expected benefits, requirements for a provider to be eligible.
  • Identify the specific government health programs and organizations that are involved and analyze their role in the policy.
  • Examine budgetary issues such who will be responsible for funding: state, federal, or a combination of both.
  • In your closing argument (conclusion slide), make a final plea to Congress in pushing your agenda forward. Your argument should be compelling and grounded in facts.

In a Microsoft Word document, create a 4- to 5-page report on your research on the policy issue.

Also, create a PowerPoint presentation consisting of 15–20 slides to be presented in front of a Congressional health committee.

Instructions for creating the presentation

  • Each slide will have a brief explanation of not more than one or two paragraphs in the Notes section located below the slide.
  • Graphics, audio, and video should be used sparingly. Sources for graphics are usually placed at the bottom of the graphic.
  • Include a title slide in the presentation.
  • Body of the presentation will include one or two slides for an introduction, the subtopics of the presentation, and a conclusion (one or two slides).

Employer-sponsored healthcare benefits should be maintained or done away with in favor of a government sponsored healthcare program.

The major payers in private healthcare (other than government programs) are employers, and this has been true since the inception of health insurance programs. There are several reasons why this is so, but one of the main reasons is employees are a defined risk pool based on the work performed for the company. Healthcare insurance companies are able to predict the financial risk (as in an experience rating) taken by the type of employees. If, for instance, the work is dangerous or injury prone, such as direct care in a nursing facility, then the cost to insure that group would be higher than for employees working at a telecommunications office. Government healthcare programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid, do not measure the cost of healthcare by the experience ratings.

Based on your understanding of the topic, answer the following:

  • Can programs like Medicare and Medicaid adopt such methods to defray costs? If yes, how would they implement such methods? If no, what suggestions would you make to defray costs?

Most of those receiving Medicare and Medicaid benefits are not employed.

  • How can the recipients of these programs be categorized into different risk pools? Explain.

The aging population is a force in healthcare continuing to have a dramatic effect on the direction of healthcare services. Many have discussed the aging population as the reason for the rising cost of healthcare. The pre- and baby-boomer generation (1946–65) were less knowledgeable and informed regarding the health risks and, therefore, engaged in risky behaviors that increased their susceptibility to chronic healthcare issues later in life.

  • What does that mean to the viability of Medicare and Medicaid?

Regardless of how many changes are made to Medicare to try to keep it solvent, aren’t the sheer numbers of eligible recipients versus the ever decreasing number of people paying into Medicare the real reason why Medicare will cease to exist in its present form?

  • Do you agree with this question? Why or why not?

The British national healthcare system owns many hospitals and directly employs workers. General practitioner salaries are set by the British government. The funding for healthcare services comes mostly from the government. This is significantly different from the US healthcare systems. Consider the issues with government healthcare programs in financing and administration.

  • Would the US be able to transit to the British style of national healthcare? Why or why not?
  • In comparison to the British system and US system, what would be some of the challenges the US would face in adopting a national healthcare system? Discuss at least three challenges.
  • Employer-sponsored healthcare benefits should be maintained or done away with in favor of a government sponsored healthcare program? Why or why not? Think through this situation as representing both an incentive and a hindrance. If it is a hindrance, then what is it hindering in the way of government-sponsored healthcare programs?

Identify and define two economic indicators that reflect the strength of the economy (e.g. real GDP, unemployment rate, inflation rate, interest rate, housing starts, etc.).

You’ve been debating on making a purchase for yourself.  This is a product you’ve wanted for a while, but one that requires budgeting because you will be making monthly payments.

Select a product in which the demand for the product is clearly affected by the strength or weakness of the overall economy such as new homes, cars, appliances, smart phones, etc.

Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word paper in which you address the following:

  • Identify and define two economic indicators that reflect the strength of the economy (e.g. real GDP, unemployment rate, inflation rate, interest rate, housing starts, etc.).
  • With these economic indicators in mind, how has the economy affected the demand for and supply of your selected product over the last 2 years?
  • Explain the impact on the price of the product and your decision on whether or not to buy the product.
  • Include responses to the following:
    • How might you apply what you learned about supply and demand to your work place or your understanding of the product you are considering purchasing?
    • How do the concepts of macroeconomics help you understand the factors that affect shifts in supply and demand on the price of the product?

Cite a minimum of three peer-reviewed sources not including your textbook.

What were the bonds that united America and its sections together.

As the nineteenth century began, in what ways was America united? What were the bonds that united America and its sections together? How would these bonds help shape America’s future? Below are some items to consider:

  • The American System
  • Judicial Decisions
  • Political Unity.

Complete a presentation in Prezi, PowerPoint, video, or other presentation, formatted according to CSU-Global’s Guide for Writing and APA Requirements. It should lead the viewer through the information in sequential order with transitions of some type to make a cohesive presentation that includes an introduction, a body and conclusion, references, and a citation page (similar to an APA References page). The presentation must also meet these requirements:

  • At least six slides
  • Each slide must include text or audio narration
  • Each slide must include at least one image
  • Include a three-page transcript to accompany the presentation. This should be a separate Word document that does not need to be formatted according to CSU-Global APA requirements. It should, however, indicate which part of the presentation it is aligned to. Label slide or frame numbers in the transcript only (to match the presentation).
  • Information must be thoroughly covered in the submitted document, without requiring supplements; all information must be conveyed clearly and completely, without reliance on a formal presentation or speech accompanying the slides for clarity.
