How would a leader who was following the tenets of the leadership model interact with the members of his or her team in order to maximize the strengths of work teams in general while mitigating the pitfalls of such teams.

  1. Does the desire to be accepted as a part of a group leave one susceptible to conforming to the group’s norms?
  2. Can a group exert pressure that’s strong enough to change a member’s attitudes and behavior?
  3. How does one particular leadership model (a valid one, by today’s research standards, as discussed in this module’s materials) interact with the most important performance outcomes with regard to teams?
  4. What can you use from this analysis to help you be a better manager?
  5. How would a leader who was following the tenets of the leadership model interact with the members of his or her team in order to maximize the strengths of work teams in general while mitigating the pitfalls of such teams?

Please be sure to include the following in your assignment submission:

  1. Write a formal, 5-paragraph essay in APA format, including a cover page, in response to this question. Base your answer on your own observations and support your assertions quoting from your assigned readings.

  1. Read the assigned readings from the Latino Literature. Highlight quotes, summarize, or paraphrase from your readings and be sure to include an in-text citation in proper APA format (Author, year, p. X).

  1. We must include three quotes from our readings. When we discuss literature, it is all about the words before us. They are ours to consider and reflect on. So, you will want to make a strong assertion and prove it, or support it, by quoting from the readings. Include three quotes in our essay.

  1. Create a strong thesis for your essay. A thesis states your main idea in a sentence. A sample thesis (which you are free to use) might be: The concepts of the mestiza consciousness, borderlands, and cross-culture challenges influence the writings of Latino writers.

n 1969, researchers Bibb Latane and John Darley conducted a series of experiments to determine how and when individuals decide to act upon witnessing a person in need of assistance. In these experiments, the researchers would stage an emergency situation and then measure how long it took participants to respond. Interestingly, the researchers discovered that participants were less likely to respond when they were with a group of people (Latane & Darley, 1969). By 1970, these same researchers suggested that bystanders might not respond for the following reasons (Latane & Darley, 1970):

  • Diffusion of responsibility: A bystander assumes that someone else will offer assistance
  • A bystander might look to see if others are helping first. If the situation seems ambiguous and no one else is helping, then the bystander is likely to think that there is no reason for concern.
  • Bystanders might be concerned about making the wrong decision and being embarrassed or shamed as a result.

Watch the following video about bystander apathy, and discuss the following prompts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIvGIwLcIuw

  • Describe your initial reaction to the video.
  • What surprised you the most?
  • What was not surprising to you?
  • Are there certain factors that you believe would make an individual more or less likely to respond to a situation like this?
  • Research by Latane and Darley as mentioned above suggests that bystanders are more likely to help once someone has already intervened. Why do you think this might be?
  • Research by Milgram (1970) has also shown that a person is more likely to receive assistance from a bystander if the event takes place in a rural area in comparison to an urban environment. Why do you think this is the case?

The article reported that 86% of business students admitted to cheating at some time during their academic career as compared to 77% of non-business students.

During the global recession of 2008 and 2009, there were many accusations of unethical behavior by Wall Street executives, financial managers, and other corporate officers. At that time, an article appeared suggesting that part of the reason for such unethical business behavior may stem from the fact that cheating has become more prevalent among business students. The article reported that 86% of business students admitted to cheating at some time during their academic career as compared to 77% of non-business students.

Cheating has been a concern of the dean of the College of Business at Rocky University for several years. Some faculty members in the college believe that cheating is more widespread at Rocky than at other universities, while other faculty members think that cheating is not a major problem at the college. To resolve some of these issues, the dean commissioned a study to assess the current ethical behavior of business students at Rocky. As part of this study, an anonymous exit survey was administered to a sample of 90 business students from this year’s graduating class. Responses to the following questions were used to obtain data regarding three types of cheating.

  • During your time at Rocky, did you ever present work copied off the internet as your own?

    ____ Yes

    ____ No

  • During your time at Rocky, did you ever copy answers off another student’s exam?

    ____ Yes

    ____ No

  • During your time at Rocky, did you ever collaborate with other students on projects that were supposed to be completed individually?

    ____ Yes

    ____ No

Any student who answered yes to one or more of these questions was considered to have been involved in some type of cheating. The complete data set is in the file named Rocky, linked at the bottom of the page.

Managerial Report

Prepare a report (see below) for the dean of the college that summarizes your assessment of the nature of cheating by business students at Rocky University. Be sure to include the following seven (7) items in your report.

  1. To summarize the data, compute the proportion of all students, the proportion of all male students, and the proportion of all female students who
    1. presented work copied off the internet as their own
    2. copied answers off another student’s exam
    3. collaborated with other students on projects that were supposed to be completed individually.

      Then comment on your findings.

  2. Develop 95% confidence intervals for the proportion of all students, the proportion of all male students, and the proportion of all female students who were involved in some type of cheating.
  3. Develop 95% confidence intervals for the proportion of all students, the proportion of all male students, and the proportion of all female students who were involved in copying off the internet.
  4. Develop 95% confidence intervals for the proportion of all students, the proportion of all male students, and the proportion of all female students who were involved in copying off another’s exam.
  5. Develop 95% confidence intervals for the proportion of all students, the proportion of all male students, and the proportion of all female students who were involved in collaborating on an individual project.
  6. Conduct a hypothesis test (using either the p-value approach or the critical value approach) to determine if the proportion of all business students at Rocky University who were not involved in some type of cheating is less than that of all business students elsewhere.  Use α = 0.05. Do not forget to include the correctly worded hypotheses.
  7. What advice would you give to the dean based upon your analysis of the data? Focus your advice on answering the following: What is the magnitude of the issue? What would you recommend for both students and faculty? What is the potential impact on relationships with the business community and what would you recommend?  How can this study be improved?

Write a report that adheres to  APA Requirements. have in-text citations and a reference page.

Your report must contain the following:

  • A title page in APA style.
  • An introduction that summarizes the problem.
  • The body of the paper should answer the questions posed in the problem by communicating the results of your analysis. Include results of calculations, as well as charts and graphs, where appropriate.
  • A conclusion paragraph that addresses your findings and what you have determined from the data and your analysis.
  • In-text citations from a minimum of three sources in addition to your textbook. The CSU-Global Library is a good place to locate these sources.
  • A reference page.

Submit your Excel file in addition to your report.

NOTE:  Submitting your Excel file will aid in grading with partial credit if errors are found in the paper

Analyze how the organizational, management, administration, and operational functions at these three organizational levels are similar or different and why.

Write a 1,400- to 1,750-word paper in which you identify, compare, and contrast the policing function at the local, state, and federal organizational levels. Analyze how the organizational, management, administration, and operational functions at these three organizational levels are similar or different and why. Be sure to identify the leadership characteristics and responsibilities pertaining to each organizational level.

Include at least four complete peer reviewed references.

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines. Include in-text citations and at least four peer reviewed references.

We wish to determine how fast the paper is moving forward (velocity v) when it has rolled to where the radius is half the initial radius.

If you jump upward (on Earth) with an initial velocity of 3 m/s, how long will will it take before you return to the ground?  How high will you have gone?

2.  What is the gravitational potential energy of a 10 kg TV held 1 m off the ground?  10 m off the ground?  100 m off the ground?

3.  You are moving a 100 kg refrigerator up a small staircase to a height of 1 m.  You use a ramp that is 10 m long.  What is the minimum amount of force along the ramp must you exert to push the refrigerator to the top?

4.  A bolt requires 6 N m of torque to tighten.  Using a wrench with a handle 10 cm long, how much force must you exert to turn the bolt?

5.  On one side of a seesaw, a 10 kg child sits 2 m from the fulcrum (the balance point at the center of the seesaw).  How far from the fulcrum must a 20 kg child sit on the other side to balance the seesaw?

A roll of paper has initial mass , initial radius  and length .

(a)  Calculate the density () of the roll of paper in units of kgm3.  The volume Vof a cylinder is .

You give the paper a tiny push so it starts rolling forward.  Assume that the push is so small that the initial kinetic energy is effectively zero.

(b)  Calculate the gravitational potential energy of the roll of paper right at the moment it starts to move.  Use the center of mass as the reference height.

It leaves behind a trail of paper, meaning that the mass decreases and the radius decreases as the paper rolls.  We wish to determine how fast the paper is moving forward (velocity v) when it has rolled to where the radius is half the initial radius.

(c)  Once the paper has rolled to where the radius is half the initial radius, what is the new mass?  What is the “rotational mass” at this point?  The “rotational mass” I of a cylinder may be calculated using .

(d)  Calculate the new gravitational potential energy.  Write down an expression for the total kinetic energy (linear + rotational) of the paper in terms of the unknown linear velocity vand the unknown angular velocity ωand your answers from part (c).

(e)  Given that energy is conserved () and that angular velocity is related to linear velocity by ωvr, use your answers from parts (b) and (d)  to calculate the forward velocity of the paper at the point where its radius is half the initial radius.
