Describe your listening experience of the same poem you wrote about above.

Read the poems “We Real Cool” or “My Papa’s Waltz”. You are also required to listen to “We Real Cool” or “My Papa’s Waltz

Write: Part One – Answer the following questions about one of the poems based on your reading of them:

  • What is the theme of the poem? How do you know this is the theme?
  • What poetic devices (e.g., rhythm, figurative language, etc.) are used in the poem? Offer at least two examples.
  • How do these poetic devices contribute to the development of the poem’s message?
  • Support your ideas with textual details and analyses.

Part Two – Describe your listening experience of the same poem you wrote about above. If you are unable to listen to these poems due to an auditory impairment, please reach out to your instructor for an alternative prompt for this discussion. Respond to at least two of the following questions:

  • How did hearing the poem recited aloud compare to a silent reading of it?
  • Did the performance highlight certain words or phrases that were not as apparent in a silent reading?
  • Did the pace change and, if so, how did it change your understanding of the poem?
  • Did words have different connotations and, if so, what kind(s) of connotation did you associate with the poem?

Describe what the first steps will be in helping them to resolve their issue.

Now that you’ve shown MovieFlix that you’ve adequately researched their issue it’s time to write them a formal business letter to discuss next steps.

For your project this week you will need to do the following:

  • Write a formal business letter from your company (Rasmussen Consulting) to MovieFlix. For your letter, you will need to follow proper business formatting guidelines and use “block letter formatting.” Also, include an APA formatted title page
    • For more information on proper business letter formatting, make sure to watch the 2nd video under your Module 02 “Business Communication” page.
  • Your business letter needs to be a minimum of 2 pages in length and must include the following:
    • Let MovieFlix know that you have researched the issue and what your conclusions are for their company based on your research.
    • Discuss latest developments surrounding the issue.
    • Describe what the first steps will be in helping them to resolve their issue. Explain why it’s important that these be the first steps and what your role will be in helping them to implement these first steps.
  • Because this is a formal business letter, tone and grammar are extremely important. You will need to submit your letter to “Grammarly” which a free service for Rasmussen students, prior to submitting your paper to the drop box. Once you’ve made all of your suggested grammar corrections, submit your paper to the Drop Box, along with your Grammarly PDF report as a separate attachment. Your goal is to obtain a Grammarly score of 90 – 100%.

For your project this week you will need to do the following:

  • In a minimum of 2 pages, prepare an essay explaining to the leadership at MovieFlix why it’s important to take an ethical approach to solving their business problem (the problem that you are helping them to solve).
  • Make sure to discuss how using good business ethics can enhance their profitability.
  • Also, describe some of the consequences that they could face if they behave unethically when trying to solve the problem that you’ve selected for your project.
  • Discuss how you, as their consultant can help them to take an ethical approach to solving their problem.
  • Make sure to include an APA formatted title page and reference page for sources that you may have used for your research. Remember to follow APA guidelines when paraphrasing or quoting information. Don’t forget to cite your sources and include in-text citations as necessary.

Explain the pros and cons of the politics-administration dichotomy as espoused by Woodrow Wilson.

. Discuss the various uses of public budget. 5. Why is the issue of illegal immigration a good example of the intergovernmental relations mess in the US? 6. From what you have learnt so far, briefly explain the key responsibilities of public administrators and the best way of meeting the responsibilities. 7. How does administrative responsibity contribute to the attainment of public interest? 8. Explain the pros and cons of the politics-administration dichotomy as espoused by Woodrow Wilson. 9. Explain how public budget could be

Describe in detail a scenario in which we are thinking of engaging in a terrorist action against an enemy and go on to argue that such an action would be morally permissible.

A brief outline of the paper should be handed in on Thursday February 11th

General topic: the general topic must be on a moral/ethical topic and the paper should be concerned with raising and discussing one or more moral claims about the issue you have chosen.  Of course this will mean bringing up and evaluating reasons for and/or against the moral claim(s) under discussion.

Length: 6-10 typewritten pages (1600-2800 words).

Style of writing:  Aim at writing as clearly as possible, using your own words.  Try to organize your whole paper into clear sections and paragraphs.  You may write informally and use “I” (as in e.g. “I want to argue that…”) if you wish.  Check your English and your spelling.  Watch out for the spelling of “argument”!

Sources and citations: You may of course use sources, but, if you do, make sure to digest them thoroughly.  I would like to see you put in a lot of your own thinking into the paper, where this includes of course your own criticisms of others’ views and arguments.  If you mention a view or argument, etc. which you got from a certain source, make sure to cite it.  You may use any system for citing sources, etc. that you wish (e.g. the APA system or the MLA system), as long as you are consistent.  At the end of your paper include a bibliography of sources you have used.

Do not plagiarize!

General Areas to choose from:

Abortion

Euthanasia

Capital punishment

Affirmative Action

Homosexual Acts

Contemporary attitudes towards sex (including hooking up)

Animals

War

Terrorism

Paternalism

Drugs

Torture

Economic activity

Specific topic: The specific topic of your paper (like that of your presentation but on a different topic) may be any of the following:

  1. Clearly stating and defending a specific moral claim by giving and defending the best reasons for the claim and attacking the best reasons against the claim.  Example: In my paper I am going to argue for the view that active euthanasia is always wrong.  I shall explain what I mean by “active euthanasia,” and then give what I think are decisive reasons why this kind of euthanasia is wrong.  I shall briefly look at what an opponent might say in reply and show that her reply fails.

  1. Examining and evaluating in some detail one or more arguments for or against a specific moral claim.  Example: In my paper I am going to examine in detail the argument that homosexual acts are wrong because they are unnatural.  I shall show that the word “unnatural” can mean a number of things, but that whatever meaning is given to the word the argument does not succeed.

  1. Carefully summarizing and/or evaluating an article, or parts of an article, e.g. an argument discussed in an article, that we have read.  Example: I am going to examine Rachel’s argument (in W) that there is no important moral distinction between active euthanasia and merely letting die.  I shall first show why his argument is important, second state his argument carefully, and finally show that the argument is a bad one.

  1. Moral discussion of a particular example or case: e.g. I am going to examine the first case in which Kevorkian participated, the Janet Atkins case, and I shall argue that although what Kevorkian did was morally all right, this kind of case should not be made legal.

Some examples of papers:

Remember these are just suggestions.

  1. A critique of Noonan’s view that the fetus acquires the RTL at the moment of conception.  I shall describe Noonan’s main arguments for this view and show that they are not good ones.

  1. A detailed examination of Thompson’s like-cases argument that abortion in the case of pregnancy caused by rape is morally all right because it is relevantly similar to the case of detaching yourself from the violinist.  After describing the argument in detail, I shall argue that it does not succeed because there are important differences between the two cases.

  1. A criticism of three of the strongest anti-homosexual arguments: in this paper I am going to discuss the three arguments that homosexual acts are wrong because they are unnatural, because my religion condemns such acts, and because allowing homosexual acts will increase the spread of AIDS.   I shall show that all of these arguments fail.

  1. An attack on UM’s undergraduate admissions program: after describing this preferential treatment program, I shall argue that it is morally wrong.

  1. An invented or actual case in which terrorism is morally all right.  My paper will be divided into two parts.  In the first part I shall develop a plausible definition of “terrorist action.”  In the second part I shall describe in detail a scenario in which we are thinking of engaging in a terrorist action against an enemy and go on to argue that such an action would be morally permissible. I shall also look at and criticize arguments that such an action would be wrong.

  1. Limits of the free market.  After discussing in some detail what counts as a free-market exchange between two or more parties, I shall argue that there are limits on such exchanges: there are some free-market exchanges that are just morally wrong.  I shall describe in detail a number of examples of such morally wrong transactions.  See Sandel.

  1.  A detailed discussion of the Divine Command Theory.  After describing the theory in great detail, I shall examine the pros and cons of the theory and conclude that ….   See Arthur article in the big book and Chapter

Improve the ability of Parliament to exercise effective financial oversight.

Respond by offering alternative perspectives of how you might revise the strategic plans your colleagues discussed.

Reminder: Be sure to support your posting and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources and/or current literature. Use APA formatting to cite references in your posting and responses.

The Public Institution selected for my term project is the only Legislative body in Ghana. The institution is among the institutions created under the 1992 Constitution of Ghana under Article 93(1), and its mandate among others is to legislate, exercise oversight and financial control, as well as influence policy within the democratic process. The institution is supported by the Parliamentary Service, created by the Parliamentary Service Act, 1993, Act 460. The institution is staffed with professionals providing a range of support services including research, finance, human resources ICT, etc.

Vision Statement

To be a model of legislative excellence in Africa.

Mission Statement

To legislate, represent and protect the people within the framework of the Constitution, supported by an efficient, non-partisan, innovative and professional Parliamentary Service structured to ensure the dignity of Parliament.

The short term Strategic objectives of the strategic plan of the institution are:

  1. Improve the ability of Parliament to exercise effective financial oversight
  2. Improve effectiveness and efficiency in the delivery of services.
  3. Ensure  adequate infrastructure to sustain excellence in service delivery

These goals are a result of internal and external stakeholder analysis and environmental scan which highlighted institutional strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats with short term implications for the institution. In formulating the goals, care was taken not to ignore current major issues in the interest of pursuing more creative and forward-looking goals. According to Carter (2014) many organizations have faltered because their planning focused too far down the road and they ended up falling over their feet.

For example the need to address capacity for financial oversight need urgent attention and will have to be addressed with a 3-year period objectives.

In the longer term 15 -20 years the following objectives will be pursed:

  1. Strengthen the capacity of the institution  to effectively perform Parliament’s legislative function
  2. Ensure the representational function is made more relevant to the needs of the public.

The strategic plan did address the issue of ability of introduction of Private Members Bills so that members can have an avenue to seek changes to legislations affecting their constituents. Stakeholders cited the need to secure amendment of the constitution before it can be addressed. The current plan crafted a strategic initiative to secure amendment so that the issue can be addressed in the next plan.

Discuss how nonverbal communication could influence whether or not a message is perceived accurately.

ssignment 1: Culture and Communication

In this assignment, you will explore your own cultural and ethnic background and analyze how this background may affect your communication. A great deal of a message is communicated not through spoken words but through the nonverbal channels. Culture and personal experience can play a large role in the transmission and interpretation of nonverbal messages. You will reflect upon your personal experience from the viewpoint of your cultural and ethnic affiliation(s) and compare it with the scholarly literature relevant to your cultural and ethnic background.

Tasks:

Watch the video, Empathy Training for Ethnic and Cultural Awareness. Afterwards, identify your cultural and ethnic background. In your response, answer the following questions:

  • In what ways do you feel your culture affects the way you communicate? (For example, eye contact or the lack of eye contact has a cultural component and can be interpreted as defiance or something similar by those unaware of the cultural context.)
  • Provide an example of how your culture has influenced nonverbal communication.
  • Discuss how nonverbal communication could influence whether or not a message is perceived accurately.
  • How is someone from a different cultural background likely to perceive your message?

Submission Details:

  • By Saturday, January 23, 2016, post your responses in at least 3–4 paragraphs to this Discussion Area. Your response should rely upon at least three sources from professional literature. This may include the Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, or .gov). Write in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources (i.e., APA format); and use accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
