Jaruszewicz (2013) outlined the historical transformation of curriculum and, from this outline, you will notice that the United States continues, like all societies, to refine beliefs about best practices in education and oftentimes these topics generate conflicting viewpoints. Some evolving areas of debate in early childhood education that have been at the forefront of the curriculum development include, but are not limited to, classroom diversity, increasing classroom motivation, and kindergarten readiness. Use the instructions below to guide your writing of this journal.

  • Historical Reflection: Explain your thoughts about the direction that early childhood curriculum has taken from its historic roots.
  • Future Directions Reflection: Keeping current issues and the evolving areas of debate mentioned above in mind, explain the direction you envision early childhood curriculum taking in the future. By providing opportunities that students can connect with, the probability of them staying in school and matriculating to a two- or four-year college or university will increase. Biotech Academy in San Jose, California is an interdisciplinary program that focuses on bioscience. The program and its faculty, however, provide supports for at-risk students that go far beyond academics. To prepare for this discussion, watch the nearly 10-minute video Biotech Academy: A catalyst for change. Note that this video can also inform your completion of the Week Four Assignment.

Identify a book or other text and explain its significance for you in your reading and writing.

As you begin this essay writing process, reflect on your experiences and attitudes about reading as a child.

Regardless of our backgrounds, our ideas of literacy often become deeply engrained as good or

bad without much thought about how these views have come to be. As a result, many of us

have definitions of literacy–of reading and writing–that could benefit from a thoughtful and

honest close self-examination.

Choose a Topic: Please draw from the following as you develop your essay focus for our children’s literature class:

  • Narrate an early memory about writing or reading that you recall vividly. Then explain

why this event is significant to you now.

  • Describe someone who taught you to read or write and explain this person’s

significance in your life.

  • Identify a book or other text and explain its significance for you in your reading and

writing.

  • Narrate an experience with a writing or reading task that you found (or still find)

difficult or challenging.

  • Describe a memento and explain how it represents an important moment in your

reading/writing development.

Then Create a Narrative: Use sound writing and story-telling skills to organize and articulate

your story. Make sure to stay focused on your one, main idea.

Key Elements

  • Create a well told story. Bring your narrative to life by using concrete and vivid

details.

  • Develop your main idea. (make sure you only have one main idea)
  • Develop the significance or affect of your experience
  • Use strong, complete, varied sentences
  • Organize paragraphs in a logical way, using topic sentences
  • Demonstrate effective, engaging, and clear writing
  • State the main idea of your essay somewhere in your introduction, and then make

certain that every supporting paragraph relates to and supports that main idea

  • Use concrete, vivid descriptions and focus on a specific event
  • Consider using dialogue between the characters in your narrative, if you feel

comfortable

I realized I did not always know what was wrong by the sound of his cry. I became very frustrated and decided that if my baby was dry, fed, and not tired. I would just let him cry it out. I didn’t know what else to do.

An operational plan forms part of the business’s strategic plan and is important for effective business leadership. It describes how the work will be done, the workflow from input to end results, including the resources that will be used along the way, all of which are required for success.

Streamlined business systems also defines how you will deal with risks, and how you will ensure sustainability of the project’s achievements.

An operational plan also explains how, or what portion of, a strategic plan will be put into operation during a given operational period.
