Which could play a role in contributing to the solution of your selected social problem?

Throughout the course, we have discussed various causes and effects of social change. Your text identifies technology, social institutions, population, and the environment as key drivers of social change. Alone or in combination, these agents can disturb, improve, disrupt, or otherwise influence society.

Consider the following questions:

Of these change agents, which do you consider the most powerful force(s) for social change? Explain your choice.
Select a current, real-world social problem that would benefit from social change. Which of the identified causes play a role in the development of this problem? Explain your answer.
Which could play a role in contributing to the solution of your selected social problem? How? What would it take to create a social movement in this direction?
Your initial response should be at least 300 words, use excellent written mechanics, and include current APA formatting as needed

What kind of training and development activities would you implement to change the culture of the hospital in regard to reducing patient care errors?

Please write a discussion post reply to the attached discussion post. Must be at least 450 words with at least 3 scholarly citations in APA format. Sources must have been published within the last five years. Must also integrate a minimum of 2 citations of scriiptural support as well as the textbook. Bible is not a reference.

The Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP) is a national quality partnership of organizations interested in improving surgical care by significantly reducing surgical complications. Partners in SCIP believe that a meaningful reduction in surgical complications depends on surgeons, anesthesiologists, perioperative nurses, pharmacists, infection control professionals, and hospital executives working together to intensify their commitment to making surgical care improvement a priority. If you were the administrator in charge of reducing errors related to surgery, what strategies would you implement that enable the different professionals (i.e., surgeons, anesthesiologists, preoperative nurses, pharmacists, infection control professionals, and hospital executives) to receive training? What kind of training and development activities would you implement to change the culture of the hospital in regard to reducing patient care errors? What other HRM activities could be impacted by the training and collaboration?

Identifying early on that there are deficiencies or issues within the system will allow managers to make adjustments before the situation increases in severity (McConnell, 2021). One area that has been known to have errors is the level of documentation and documentation errors pertaining to the care provided or medications administered (AlThubaity & Mahdy, 2023). Therefore, creating Electronic Health Record (EHR) templates can be used by everyone who is caring for the patient to ensure that patient charting is done accurately, where pertinent information is not eliminated (AlThubaity & Mahdy, 2023). Improving communication amongst the healthcare team is imperative to ensure that the surgical procedure is happening to the right body region and the right patient (Wu et al., 2023). Therefore, to fulfill this, it would be important for the surgical team to have a meeting before the procedure to review what is going to take place and ensure everyone is on the same page; this can also be impacted by ensuring proper patient documentation (Wu et al., 2023). Lastly, another strategy that can be implemented is proper hand hygiene protocols, as it has been shown that nurses are more likely than physicians to follow proper hand hygiene guidelines (Lamping et al., 2022). Therefore, it is important to create a sterile environment prior to entering the surgical suite and prevent future infections for the patient (Lamping et al., 2023).

Culture

There are various types of training sessions that can be implemented in a healthcare setting to provide proper education and create a positive culture surrounding surgeries. One educational training would be a legal training program for staff and professionals as it will show them what the Human Resources process would be like, including their coverage and how legal matters can impact the company, therefore supporting the need for protocols to be abided by (McConnell, 2021). Another training would be with the EMR trainers to allow them the opportunity to teach nursing staff and professionals about the new templates being used, which will improve their communication and decrease documentation errors (Kalayou et al., 2021). Having this training will also provide the opportunity for any negative attitudes toward the EMR system to be addressed and show why these systems must be used in patient care (Kalayou et al., 2021). Another educational opportunity that would be beneficial for a surgical team would be the use of morbidity and mortality seminars (Hunt et al., 2022). These meetings allow for an evaluation to determine the quality of care patients are receiving; however, they also serve the purpose of providing education to the staff as a way to prevent these occurrences from happening in the future (Hunt et al., 2022). One way to improve morbidity and mortality seminars is to include all staff members involved so the entire patient experience is reviewed, not just what the physician or allied health providers provide (Hunt et al., 2022).

Other Activities

Conducting training and educational opportunities will allow the staff to remain up to date on the current literature and will aid the company in remaining compliant (McConnell, 2021). Conducting regular training provides an opportunity to recruit qualified candidates as the company will start to build a reputation (Gilmore, 2022). Additionally, this will allow the current staff to perform better on performance appraisals as issues that occur within the workplace are being addressed (Gilmore, 2022).

Biblical Integration

Psalm 32:8 states, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you” (New International Version Bible, 2011). This verse shows Christians that we must rely on God to show and teach us what He has planned. However, within the healthcare industry, it is important that administrators implement training opportunities for their teams to help prevent deficiencies (McConnell, 2021). Additionally, it creates an environment where patients will receive better care (Hunt et al., 2022).

Conclusion

Reducing surgical errors should be a focus of a healthcare administrator as it will impact the facility overall. The administrator should implement strategies to help improve and prevent errors, which can include EHR templates where communication will be better served (AlThubaity & Mahdy, 2023). Also, implementing proper hand hygiene protocols will improve patient safety and prevent post-surgical infections (Lamping et al., 2022). Another aspect that will aid in improving the workplace culture is to have morbidity and mortality conferences where learning can take place in a non-judgemental area as it promotes the opportunity to prevent these occurances from happening in the future (Hunt et al., 2022).

What other types of data collection could you have used, and how might this have affected your study?

Steps to Complete the Week 7 Lab

Step 1: The following articles are from the Chamberlain Library. Once you click each link, you will be logged into the Library and can click on “PDF Full Text”.

First Article: Confidence Intervals, Part 1 (attached).
Second Article: Confidence Intervals, Part 2 (attached)

Step 2: Consider the use of confidence intervals in health sciences with these articles as inspiration and insights as you complete this lab.

Step 3: Using the data you collected for the Week 5 Lab (attached) (heights of 10 different people that you work with plus the 10 heights provided by your instructor), discuss your method of collection for the values that you are using in your study (systematic, convenience, cluster, stratified, simple random). What are some faults with this type of data collection? What other types of data collection could you have used, and how might this have affected your study?

Step 4: Now use the Week 6 Spreadsheet (attached) to help you with calculations for the following questions/statements.

a) Give a point estimate (mean) for the average height of all people in the place you gathered your data. Start by putting the 20 heights you are working with into the blue Data column of the spreadsheet. What is your point estimate, and what does this mean?

b) Find a 95% confidence interval for the true mean height of all the people (using all 20 data values) where you got your 10 heights. Post a screenshot of your work from the t value Confidence Interval for µ from the Confidence Interval tab on the Week 6 Excel spreadsheet. What is the interval?

c) Give a practical interpretation of the interval you found in part b and explain carefully what the output means. (For example, you might say, “I am 95% confident that the true mean height of all of the people in my company is between 64 inches and 68 inches”).

Step 5: Now, change your confidence level to 99% for the same data, and post a screenshot of this table, as well.

Step 6: Compare the margins of error from the two screenshots. Would the margin of error be larger or smaller for the 99% CI? Explain your reasoning.

Step 7: Save the Week 7 Lab document with your answers and include your name in the title.

Step 8: Submit the document.

The deliverable is a Word document with your answers to the questions posed below based on the article you find.

To what extent is the viewer being asked to identify with a given social and/or economic status?

STEP 1: Select three television ads that are each promoting a different make and model of automobile. Closely analyze the details in these sales pitches and take some notes. Be sure to focus on what characteristics and priorities the “characters” in the ads are presumed to have based on the ad’s rationale or particular “angle.”
STEP 2: Review the sections from the module about class, social mobility, and theoretical perspectives on stratification. Choose 3 or 4 concepts from these sections and apply them to the sales pitches you’ve analyzed. Consider questions such as:

What class statuses do you think are on display?
What aspirations or identities do you think are being appealed to?
To what extent is the viewer being asked to identify with a given social and/or economic status?
What does ownership of these particular vehicles presumably signify about these potential customers?
These are just some suggested lines of inquiry, and there are of course other worthwhile questions and useful concepts from the module readings that can help you think about advertising pitches and stratification from a sociological perspective. Be sure to use the specialized vocabulary you’ve been learning about in the reading.

STEP 3: Once you’ve sketched out some initial responses to these questions, and drawn connections between the imagery, narration (if any), dialogue, characterization, setting, etc., in the ads, focus on one individual from each one, and assign that person a name.

Now, hypothesize a short list of characteristics for each person that can be inferred from how they’re portrayed in the ads. What do you think they do for a living? What types of status–say, monetary or cultural–are associated with that work? How do you imagine their living situation? House? Apartment? What do the ads imply about this person’s possible background or future in terms of their status? Do the ads suggest that purchasing this particular car will alter that status in some measurable way?

In addition to analyzing the “pitch” made in the ads, also be sure to include your own perspective based on your personal experience and observations. What statuses or class-specific lifestyles do you associate with these types of cars? Why?

STEP 4: Submit your work in two sections: (1) a brief analysis of each commercial; and (2) a short descriiption of each “character” you’ve chosen to name. On a more nuts-and-bolts level: your paper should be between 500-750 words and should be carefully edited for clarity and readability.
