Jaguar and Land-Rover are two vehicle manufacturers whose origins are in the UK and who still operate their manufacturing plants in the UK, despite being owned by the Indian company Tata.
Since the takeover by Tata, the two companies have been working to rationalise their IT Infrastructure. (The history of both these companies is both long and complex. It is well documented on the Internet if you want to get some background but this information is not necessary for the assignment.)
The Land Rover Factory is located in the Solihull district of Birmingham and Jaguar have a number of factories including one at a plant originally owned by the Ford motor company at Halewood, near Liverpool.
These two sites are just over 100 miles (170 km) apart.
Until now each plant has run its own IT services and network with Internet connection but they are now to come under the main IT Services provision based at Land Rover Solihull. Unfortunately, Jaguar has been using different technologies from Land Rover in many areas of IT. This assignment is about the differences between these technologies and how Jaguar might be better integrated into the main IT systems run at Land Rover.
