Length Requirement: 1200-1750 words (not including Works Cited page). Format: Garamond or Times New Roman 12-point serif font, double spaced, and with a title specific to your topic. Sources: Six total. At least four articles appropriate for a reasonable/intelligent audience, including at least two scholarly journal articles. This is in addition to at least two primary sources—films, podcasts, games, or books you chose for study at the beginning of this research project. Citation Style: You must use either MLA or APA format for your Works Cited page and in-text citations.

See chapter 14 on the guidelines for each style. It doesn’t matter to me which you use, as long as you are consistent. write a review of up to three works within a genre, and one of them can include the work you wrote about for essay 1. Whichever structure you choose, you will need to include at least four secondary sources to support your argument, and two of those sources must come from the library databases. Your argument must focus on an ethical issue related to the work(s). You might focus on how a certain culture or group is represented, or on how well/badly a certain ethical issue is represented, or about the ethical/moral value of your chosen genre itself—perhaps you feel the genre is unfairly ignored for its contributions to our society (or unfairly worshipped). For this essay, you must imagine an academic audience—no need to be overly formal, but do follow the convention of relying on logic and concrete evidence to support your argument, using reputable sources, and properly citing your sources.

Imagine you are writing for curious, intelligent readers at the college level. You must also specify your audience more narrowly, as described below. You concluded essay 2 with your tentative thesis. Now you must refine that thesis, revise your research, and develop your thesis in an argumentative essay. Because you are creating a focused argument, your sources for essay 2 may not all transfer to this stage of the process. Some sources may support your more focused claim, while some will have to be abandoned. I expect your research, as well as your writing, to be revised for essay 3. While your argument should address an ethics-related problem, you are not limited to the type of claim you may make (e.g., definition, cause, proposal, position paper, evaluation). You can find guidelines for each kind of arguments in Read, Reason, Write, chapters 7-11.

The following specific elements should be integrated into your essay:

1. Target Audience: At the top of your first page, write “Audience: _____” and fill in the specific audience you imagine addressing in your essay. 2. Design: If you are writing about a visual medium, include at least two images to support your argument. If you are writing about a verbal medium (a book or a podcast), use pull quotes (see link for definition) in at least two places in your essay to highlight samples from the work that support your description of the work. Think about how the visual design of your essay will absorb readers. Label, caption, and cite your images/pull quotes.
