Write a research paper outlining the 4321 forms of transphobia, heterosexism, and sexism.
Students are responsible for their own learning and have ownership and choices in
what they do.
Purpose: The purpose of this weekly writing assignment is to provide you with an
opportunity to demonstrate that you’ve read the section of the textbook assigned that is
related to a particular form of oppression and that you have thought deeply about the
issues presented. Ideally, your response to the reading should represent parts of the
assigned readings that struck you as important or meaningful. Your engagement with the
week’s “ism” will also enhance our class discussions every week. I encourage you to record
and express any thoughts, questions, and/or concerns that come up as you read, and thus
develop independent ideas about a text. The aim of this assignment is that you develop the
following skills: critical thinking, reading, and writing; comprehension and analysis;
explaining, articulating concepts based on the material from readings, videos, and activities,
while engaging in activities designed to build social justice tools and strategies.
Instructions: Make direct connections to the readings by writing a weekly response paper
(bullet points are fine) using the “4-3-2-1” format:
 Identify 4 things you learned,
 3 points that influenced you the most,
 2 ways the material connects to social work,
 and 1 point you continue to question
Grading Rubric:
You must submit your 4-3-2-1 assignment each week; three (3) of the seven (7) writing
assignments will be graded and you will earn up to ten (10) points for each of the three papers.
Maximum points are awarded to original and thoughtful comments that reflect critical thinking done
by the student. Comments that are repetitive and/or do not reflect critical thinking will be awarded
the minimum points. You will receive up to 10 points for each Weekly “4-3-2-1” Reading Response
Paper that you turn in; see rubric below.
