In the readings for this week there are reocurring themes around inclusivity in the workplace through theories/practices that center both commonality and difference. Regardless of how these theories and practices are presented, the end goal for each of these authors is diverse practice in technical communication (particularly, practice(s) that forward/support socially just work environments). For example, Miller (2020) revisits conversations that merge composition studies and tech comm, revealing that the understanding and teaching of rhetoric is what undergirds/bridges the two fields (also noting that rhetoric is what makes room for technical communicators to better apply humanistic/ethical efforts in related theories and practice). Moore, Jones, and Walton’s (2021) piece expands on their previous work on the 4Rs (recognize, reveal, rejecting, and replacing) and applies it to real-world contexts. This research reveals that a centering of lived experience and story lays the groundwork for TPC practitioners to more adequately approach the work of the 4R heuristic.

What kinds of issues around inclusivity, accessibility, disability, etc. were apparent (or perhaps weren’t so apparent but were still present)? After engaging with the readings for this week, what theories/heuristics/practices felt most helpful in approaching those identified issues?
