The film captures the escalation of violence used on both sides (the FLN and the French). Each responds to violence with more violence. Are they equally to blame in your opinion?
You might consider: Who starts the violence? Does the desire for freedom justify violence? Do you think nonviolence would have worked? What is your assessment of the FLN’s terrorist attacks? What is your assessment of France’s use of torture?
