Assignment Question
As a law enforcement officer and an academic, I have often heard: “Well why didn’t they just leave?” when discussing IPV (Intimate Partner Violence). Statistically, we know it takes more than 1 attempt at leaving for a victim to permanently leave. We often say it is the “magic number 7” i.e. it takes a victim leaving 7 times before they escape permanently albeit that number depends on the individual. Thinking about this: Why do you think it takes leaving/escaping multiple times?
What are some of the challenges that would impact the ability of the victim to leave/escape? Now- look up IPV resources in your community. Do you have them local or are they far away?
Are there restrictions on who can access them? How does this impact leaving/escaping IPV? Are there certain victims who are denied access?
