Are Canadian prisons effective?

In this class, you will be responsible for preparing a 3 page paper that covers the essay topic listed below. You are to include at least 4 different academic sources in your paper. These academic sources include peer reviewed journal articles and academic books. You may also use your text but you need to find 4 other sources aside from your text when searching for reference materials. If you are having difficulty trying to figure out if the source that you have located is an academically viable source, come and see me. Your content mark will be negatively affected if you do not have sufficient academic resources.

Note that these 4 sources have to be used and integrated throughout your paper in order to substantiate your claims. You will lose marks if you do not integrate your academic sources into your paper and just list them on your reference page. The minimum length for your paper is 3 full pages of text – not including your reference page and title page. Note that subtitles, running heads, referencing and spacing between paragraphs does not count as written text. Be sure to meet the minimum page requirement!!! There is no maximum length to this part of the assignment. Failure to meet the minimum page requirement will result in a 0 for this assignment. If you have errors within the first two sentences of your paper, you will receive a mark of 0. It is by no means meant to be exhaustive and in your research, you may come across other questions that need to be answered in order to effectively analyze and explain a particular phenomenon or problem concerning how Canada deals with incarcerated individuals. There may be alternative questions that need to be asked (and answered) in order to truly understand the depth needed to investigate the paper topic’s main question. – Have a clear thesis statement at the outset of your paper. Your introduction should include this thesis statement.

Your introduction should try and interest the reader in what you are going to say. Your introduction should basically state: 1. what you are going to do 2. how you are going to do it and 3. why you are going to do it (ie., the purpose of doing your paper). – Properly reference all sources used in your paper. Use APA style of referencing materials. If you do not know how to properly reference materials, come see me in my office hours for examples of how to properly reference materials for college/university papers. You may also want to check out the back of each chapter in your texts to see how materials are referenced. – Plagiarism of any kind will not be tolerated.
