Assignment Question

Every person perceives the world through his or her own cognitive biases. The more those biases are examined and understood, the better they can be neutralized.

For this assignment, you will choose one cognitive bias (e.g., social comparison bias, confirmation bias, gambler’s fallacy, availability heuristic, etc.) and analyze it in an essay of 1200-1500 words.

In the essay, you should:

Define the bias and describe a potential real-world scenario in which the bias may be applied. Discuss the underlying mechanisms of the bias. How does it work? Address the implications of the bias. What are the possible outcomes of the bias in the scenario you described? Critically evaluate how the bias could affect decision making and/or problem solving. Propose and evaluate strategies to mitigate or overcome the bias in the future.

As part of your research, you may refer to the course material for supporting evidence, but you must also use at least three credible, outside sources and cite them using APA formatting. Include a mix of both primary and secondary sources, with at least one source from a scholarly peer-reviewed journal.
