Directions: This paper assignment is worth 20% of your final grade. You are required to complete the following tasks in a thoughtful and comprehensive way in order to receive full credit: INTRODUCTION: (10%) This introduction should begin with a ‘hook’ in order to demonstrate the significance of your research topic and provide the reader with a sense of the scope of your paper. Following the hook, introduce your research question and thesis statement in their most up-to-date versions. Finally provide a detailed outline (in paragraph form) that explains the construction of your paper. (This should be the complete introduction with all appropriate parts that I will see in the final version). METHODOLOGY: (30%) With clarity, introduce the research problem and explore the appropriate methodological approaches that you will take in order to defend the claim that you are making in your paper. Remember, your methodological choices stem from the question you have asked. You should have a clear understanding of your methods for defending your thesis and be able to convey why these methods matter when answering your research question. This section of the assignment should be detailed, outlining the research project, demonstrating factual and historical knowledge of your issue as well as fluency with respect to methodological plan.
THESIS DEFENSE: (50%) Your thesis statement (at this point) is contentious. It requires empirical and/or philosophical defense. Your methodology (above) explains how you will defend your thesis. This section requires you to actually do the defense. Analyze your data or content, provide a rich explanation of your case, establish your relationships, make coherent philosophical/ legal/ theoretical truth claims. This will be the most difficult section of your paper and will require you to dedicate considerable time. This is where you (as a writer and a researcher) must make a claim. This should be original to you. This does not mean that similar arguments (well cited by you) should not be discussed, but you MUST spend time and thought developing an argument original to you on this subject and in defense of your thesis. Paper Assignment Two cannot be successfully completed in less than seven pages. The length of this assignment, however, is left to you.
