You are the social worker for Joe’s family, and are tasked with completing an assessment on the family. For this question, focus on Joe and his older brother. FYi Joe the king is a 1999 film How are both adolescents adjusting to this phase of development? Referring to the multidimensional framework for assessment, what are some factors that will influence or impact Joe and his brother’s development? How might you intervene as a social worker? Response Guidelines Contrast your post with that of a fellow learner whose response to the question about social worker intervention was different than yours. Reflect on the differences—does his or her response suggest any changes you might make to yours? Why? Do you disagree with the other response? Why? Make your post within four days. Respond to at least one other learner within three days of making your initial post. Please respond to Peer 1: Adolescence is referred to as the phase in which one “prepares for adulthood”; this is typically done through experimentation, adaptation, and exploration (Lundahl & Hull, 2015). However, Joe and his brother Mike had already been “preparing for adulthood” long before reaching the adolescent stage of life. Due to having been exposed to extreme risk factors throughout the previous stages of life, both Joe and Mike were “parentified” by their adolescence. Lundahl & Hull (2015) emphasize the need to develop and preserve a stable bond between a kid and their parent from an early age; on the other hand, children who suffer from abuse and/or neglect face difficulties with low self-worth or self-esteem, subpar academic performance, and inappropriate sexual expression. Joe and Mike were abused and neglected throughout the movie, which put them at risk for early parentification and the difficulties stated above. Furthermore, it seems that both boys are susceptible to abandonment issues because their father physically abused them while their mother emotionally and mentally abandoned them. Joe and Mike had to go into survival mode just to be able to feed themselves because they experienced extreme neglect from both parents. Lundahl & Hull ( 2015 ) Explain how children who are neglected may engage in criminal action as a coping method, such as stealing. It would be my duty as a required reporter to notify DCFS (Department of Child and Family Services) of these concerns so that an investigation can begin. But as an LCSW, it is not my sole duty. Joe and Mike also need to know that they can navigate life without engaging in unlawful activities (like stealing) and with adults who can serve as positive role models. I would make sure the kids are registered for as many food bank alternatives as possible since they need to know they will be fed and have food. In addition, I would see to it that the boys’ daily schoolwork is done in a consistent, quiet environment and that their needs for hygiene and school supplies are satisfied. References Lundahl, B.
