Examine Quasi-Experimental and Experimental DesignActivity Your task for this week requires you to examine two of the provided articles under your weekly resources. One article must use a quasi-experimental design; and one article that uses a factorial experimental design. Choose the two articles based on your program specialization:Gender DiversityQuasi-Experimental Article:Gato, J. & Fontaine, A. M. (2013). Anticipation of the sexual and gender development of children adopted by same-sex couples. International Journal of Psychology, 48(3), 244–253.Factorial Article:Trent, J. & King, L. A. (2013). Faith in intuition moderates the effects of positive affect of gender stereotyping. Personality and Individual Differences, 54(7), 865-868.General PsychologyQuasi-experimental Article:Janse, B., Huijsman, R., Marice de Kuyper, R. D., Fabbricotti, I. N. (2014). The effects of an integrated care intervention for the frail elderly on informal caregivers: A quasiexperimental study. BMC Geriatrics, 14.Factorial Article:Moussa, M. N., Simpson, S. L., Mayhugh, R. E., Grata, M.E., Burdette, J. H., Porrino, L. J., & Laurienti, P. J. (2014). Long-term moderate alcohol consumption do not exacerbate age-related cognitive decline in healthy, community-dwelling older adults. Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 6.Health PsychologyQuasi-Experimental Article:Pata, R. W., Lord, K., & Lamb, J. (2014). The effect of Pilates based exercise on mobility, postural stability, and balance in order to decrease fall risk in older adults.Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies, 18(3), 361-367.Factorial Article:Allison, M. & Lee, C. (2015). Too fat, too thin: Understanding bias against overweight and underweight in an Australian female university sample. Psychology & Health, 30(2), 189-202.Industrial Organizational PsychologyQuasi-experimental Article:Biggs, A. Brough, P. & Barbour, J. P. (2014). Enhancing work-related attitudes and work engagement: A quasi-experimental study of the impact of an organizational intervention. International Journal of Stress Management, 21(1), 43–68.Factorial Article:Wayne, J. H., & Casper, W. J. (2012). Why does firm reputation in human recourse policies influence college students? The mechanisms underlying job pursuit intentions. Human Resource Management, 51(1), 121–142.You will then answer the following based on the articles provided for your specialization. For the Quasi-Experimental Design article, answer the following:1. Operationally define both the (quasi) independent and dependent variables.2. Explain how the groups differ.3. Explain why, in this case, a quasi-experimental design was used (rather than an experimental design).4. Describe the threats to validity (external or internal) in article. Did authors address these threats? For the Factorial Design article, answer the following:1. Operationally define both the (quasi) independent and dependent variables.o Explain the levels of the independent variable.o How many independent variables were used?o Describe the design (e.g. 4 x 2 x 2 factorial design)2. Identify the main effects in this study (e.g. , experienced versus non-experienced; cognitive therapy versus psychoanalytical).3. Explain how your groups differ.4. Explain why, in this case, a factorial design was used.5. Did the authors use a participant variable?o Why or why not?o What additional information was obtained including a participant (or might be obtained, if a participant was not included)?6. Describe the threats to validity (external or internal) in article.o Did authors address these threats?Length: 5-7 pagesYour paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course, and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.
Writing a response paper means that you may choose to write about your own reaction to a givenreading or readings as a whole or you may choose to write about a particular point or points made by the author. Whatever you choose to focus on, the response must be critical, not simply a description of your own personal feelings about the essay. Writing a “response paper” might seem to imply that you will be writing about your emotional responses and reactions to a particular text, that you will be answering the question: “How did you feel about the text?” This is NOT what you are to do in a critical response paper. In this sort of paper, “How did you feel” is a legitimate starting point perhaps, but what is more interesting is why you felt that way.2The response paper consists of your close examination of the text and the questions in the text that most intrigue you. It does not need to be a fully structured and argued essay—it should, however, pull together your thoughts about a particular issue in the text.Guidelines to help you produce a good response paper:Ø Write about something you care about.Ø Take a look at some of the questions asked by the author, or even some of the questions I occasionally list on our handouts, for inspiration.Ø Make a statement / take a position (a thesis) about the topic. Sometimes that statement will be an argument for or against a position; at other times it will be a statement of confusion, when the writer isn\’t sure what to believe.Ø Explain your reasons for believing your thesis, so that your reader can understand why you are making this assertion. If your thesis is a statement of confusion, explain why you\’re confused! Use evidence and citations from the readings. Construct an argument.Ø Show what it was in the assigned text that made you think about this topic. If possible, compare and contrast the assertions of the assigned text with your own.Be sure to cite your sources correctly. If you are quoting directly from a reading, please cite the source and page number parenthetically.

Instructions: For this assignment, you will write as though you’re the imaginary friend you chose for Assignment 3.2: EN102_Imaginary_Friends.docx (Source: Montgomery College English Faculty). In other words, if you chose Marla as the imaginary friend with whom you would be most likely to disagree, you’ll write from her point of view.As part of Assignment 3.2, you chose an article from the CQ Researcher or Opposing Viewpoints that represented your own point of view on video game violence. Now you get to express a critical response – but from the point of view of someone who disagrees with you. Our assignment will be based on Exercise 2.8 in the textbook, and you will probably find it helpful to base your paragraph on the template for writing a critical response on page 73. Instead of writing about the Gerard Jones article, though, you’ll be writing about the article you found on your own.The critical response template gives you some ways of starting sentences that summarize, as well as sentences that evaluate and support an opinion. Remember, though, that this opinion will be your imaginary friend’s, not your own.Your paragraph should be NO LONGER than 250 words, not including your Works Cited entry.YOU MUST LOGIN AND USE THIS TEXTBOOK TO COMPLETE THIS ASIGNMENT. PLEASE FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY.I HAVE ATTACHED TWO OTHER DOCUMENTS THAT WILL NEED TO USED IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THIS ASSIGNMENT. NO LONGER THAN 250 WORDS.PART 2 TO ASSIGNMENT:Instructions:This assignment will be based on Exercise 4.1 on page 108 (template), but you will analyze the same article you used for Discussion topic 4.1.As you saw in Chapter 4, there are some significant differences between a critical evaluation and a rhetorical analysis. The purpose of a critical evaluation is to determine whether a piece of writing is convincing and explain why. Usually facts, rather than rhetoric, are the most important elements in the paragraph. In a rhetorical analysis, on the other hand, the purpose is to explain the strategies a writer uses to convince the audience. In the paragraph you write for this assignment, you will look at the same database article you used previously, but this time, you will write a rhetorical analysis rather than a critical evaluation. You can write as yourself, but you will probably find it helpful to keep your imaginary friend in mind as you do your analysis. As in Assignment 4.1, make sure your paragraph is NO LONGER than 250 words and that it includes a Works Cited entry.
Select and describe an important problem faced by society today (e.g., income inequality, gun violence, online privacy). Once you have selected your problem, be prepared to address the following in your presentation:1. Provide your own analysis by asking—and answering—a relevant question from at least three domains of thinking. Examples of these can be found on pages 139-140 of your textbook.2. In your answers to the above questions, apply at least three intellectual standards, and explain why the standards are important in this context (e.g., the elements of thought or reasoning that led you to this thinking). The eight elements can be found beginning on page 62 of your textbook.3. Explain why each question you have selected is either a question of fact, preference, or judgment. This information can be located on pages 126-127 of your textbook.4. Finally, in one paragraph, reflect on your analysis of the problem that you selected, and describe how your consideration of this problem demonstrates deep learning. This information can be located on pages 144-145 of your textbook. To accomplish this, you must compose a 12 slide PowerPoint presentation that meets the guidelines below. Your PowerPoint slides should be arranged in the following manner:Slide 1: Title slideSlide 2: Include the problem selected, and describe the problem.Slides 3-6: Provide your own analysis by asking—and answering—a relevant question from at least three domains of thinking.Slides 7-9: Include your three intellectual standards, and explain why the standards are important in this context.Slides 10-11: Explain why each question is a question of fact, preference, or judgment.Slide 12: Conclusion slide will contain one paragraph that reflects on your analysis and describes your consideration and learning of this problem.
Writing assignment:
1.In 1968 a biologist, Garret Hardin, published an article in Science magazine entitled The Tragedy of the Commons. The article is available at www.econlib.org/library and on other sites.
Please read Hardins article and write a brief summary. What is the commons? What is the tragedy? What, if any, solutions does Hardin propose? How does his argument relate to environmental policies?
2.Find two (2) recent (past 6 weeks or so) news stories about environmental health issues and write a short summary of the news report. The report may be a one time news story or a new development related to an on-going issue in the news.
Please make sure to cite your sources.
I prefer a hard copy but I will accept responses sent by email. I also prefer typed, but will accept handwritten papers. Please double space typed responses. Theres no rule on length, but 2 or 3 pages (altogether) should be sufficient for this assignment.
You may share research, but make sure the analysis and writing is your own.
