Using the Declaration of Independence, and the following excerpt from Thomas Paine’s Common Sense, analyze the emergence and importance of republicanism to the early Republic. What were the basic tenets of American republicanism? What sorts of Enlightenment ideas and beliefs could be found in the texts? In what ways did the heart of republican thought affect the growth of the United States? Your essay should explore why republicanism emerged in the eighteenth century and how it became such an integral part of the new country’s political lexicon.

COURT CASE ANALYSIS. Look up and examine a recent (2008 to present) State or Federal Supreme Court case and decision that relates to a human resource management issue. In less than 4 typed, double-spaced pages, provide a scenario as to how and what happened that resulted in the case reaching the Supreme Court. What was the court’s rationale in their decision, and how does the decision impact the practice human resource managers.

Option #1: Brainstorm different topics that you could explore through comparison and contrast. Select a topic that is significant and meaningful to explore thoroughly. Write a 2-4 page, double-spaced essay using comparison/contrast as the primary developmental pattern. In addition, use at least two other methods of development (narration, description, classification, process analysis, illustration/example, cause/effect, definition, argument) to support your thesis. For this assignment you could use either the subject-by-subject method or the point-by-point method. Remember to make this comparison purposeful. Answer the question so what? Your comparison should be a part of a more significant whole. Make sure you provide a reason for this comparison. Include reminders and transitions to help your reader connect the dots. Make sure that your essay is balanced between the two elements that you are comparing.
Option #2: Write a 2-4 page, double-spaced essay comparing two characters from short story, book, or movie. Use your comparison of these two characters to show how (1) two people who initially seem similar are different, (2) how two people who initially seem different are similar, or (3) how two people, though comparable in some ways, are unequal. For example, you might discuss how two characters each have likable traits, but one would be more preferable than the other as a friend, sister, mate, etc… based on certain qualities or actions. This, obviously, is a subjective judgment, but your essay should clearly and fluently point out the reasons why you believe this judgment is true. In other words, support your assertion about these two characters. Avoid making your essay too plot-driven. Note: Make sure to select a subject that has level of depth to be able to make your essay purposeful for your readers. Why should your audience care about these characters?

What are some of the causes of corporate and white-collar crime?

Jason, John and Peter are about trying to across a desert. In order to prepare for such  challenge, Jason fills a extremely large bottle of water. John puts deadly poison into the water while Jason is unaware. Peter, on the other hand, goes 50 miles out into the desert to wait for Jason, then dumps out the water in the bottle. (Neither Jason nor Peter knows at that point that the water is poisoned.) Peter and John, who have separate supplies of water, return home safely. Jason dies of thirst in the desert.

John and Peter are brought to court after the event is exposed to public. John says, “Jason did not die of poisoning. It was not I who killed him.” Peter says, “What I did lengthened, not shortened, Jason’s life. Do not blame me.”

Who killed Jason? Please don’t say John and Peter are both guilty and responsible for Jason’s death. That much is obvious, and easy to answer. If you were the judge at the court, who would you say is guilty of the actual murder? Give your reasoning.
