Write a short paper in response to the prompt below. What if the total of the pain caused by sacrificing the civil rights of a few is less than the total of the pleasure derived as a result by the many?John Stuart Mill tried to rebut the objection that utilitarianism cannot account for individual rights. He argued that far from being in tension with individual rights, the principle of utility was actually the justification for protecting rights. Mill believed that protecting individual rights is the best way to increase the sum of happiness in the long run. Was Mill right in your opinion? Either way, consider to what extent the promotion of overall utility should be the reason why we should not violate people’s basic rights.
How was Wundt’s psychology influenced by the earlier work of the German physiologists and the British empiricists? Be sure to include the concepts of voluntarism and apperception (law of psychic resultants) in your response. Also, although he disagreed with most of the empiricists in general, which one of them was he most in disagreement with?
Which perspective did you agree with more and why(Article i agreed with is attached)? Did the other author (the one whose thesis you did not agree with as much) present views or points that were valid to you? If so, what were some?
1.Is your paper well written and free of grammatical mistakes?
2.Do you relate the reading to other materials we have read, discussions in class, and/or outside knowledge and sources?
3.A good introduction and conclusion.
4.I want to see a thread that connects most of your paper. It can be surprise, disagreement, curiosity, etc. Whatever you feel is a genuine reaction. However, you dont have to say in every paragraph, I was truly in disagreement with this other point . . . .
For your reaction, I want you to write a 2-3 page, double spaced paper, 12 font Times New Roman or Bell MT. You are required to give footnotes and a bibliography if you are a history major/minor who has completed research methods. If not, please use a style of citation you are familiar with, but still provide a bibliography. If you are quoting a specific passage from one of our Moodle readings, simply cite as follows: Wilson Readings, 57. I do want a cover page with your name, the reading that you are basing your reaction on, the class, my name, and the date it is due. Some points will take longer to answer than others, the basic parameters for that are yours. I want a minimum of three outside (that is, not assigned to class) scholarly sources for your paper, of which at least one of them being a book.
How will you be graded on this? Here are 3-4 things I am looking for.
However, you dont have to say in every paragraph, I was truly in disagreement with this other point . . . .
Please note that you do not have to answer the questions I ask above in the order given in your paper. Of course, you can use first person for this exercise but dont forget to write in a collegiate manner.

Do some credible research and create a quality post describing the pathogen Shigellosis and the disease it causes. Be sure to include what type of pathogen it is, how the pathogen is transmitted, how it enters the body, the course of disease, how many people are affected by this pathogen, where in the world it occurs, how the pathogen is diagnosed by the physician and identified in the lab (eg: gram stain or other pertinent staining, lab media used for isolation etc.), treatment, and anything else interesting about the disease agent.
The paper is going to be a research paper about trenchless technology. What it is, how it is done, and where its being used can all be included along with any other useful information on the topic. Sources/references included should be found on google. I would like to be able to find them easily and look at them when the paper is done. References also must be cited to text as any research paper would.
How do the novels of Dostoevsky (1864) & H.G. Wells (1894) evoke the promise and perils of European modernity as defined by Marshall Berman? Which of these novels, in your opinion, is more dystopian and why?Write a 4- to 5-page paper in answer to these questions. It should be based primarily on a close-reading of Dostoevsky or Wells in connection with Berman, while making brief reference to the other novel in order to answer the last question.Good papers WILL NOT consist primarily of plot summary. The best papers WILL1. have a strong, subtle, and original argument relating your novel to Berman’s claims about modernity;2. support your argument with well-organized references to specific textual passages in your novel;3. situate your argument about the assigned texts in a wider historical context with the help of a few of the other themes, figures, and/or events raised in lecture and/or encountered in the other assigned readings—e.g. science, religion, Chaadaev, Kireevsky, Alexander II, the Revolutions of 1848, the Crimean War, “Victorian Britain,” the “Great Reforms,” etc.4. demonstrate an understanding of Russia’s ambivalent relationship to Europe in the nineteenth century.Book Sources must be:Fyodor Dostoevsky-Notes from UndergroundH.G. Wells- The Time MachineMarshall Berman- All That is Solid Melts into AirMust be full 4 pages. Crystal Palace( a symbol of modernity) takes a huge role to both Marshall Berman and Dostoevsky in the books. and both have different idea of Crystal Palace.
