Patrick Henry's "Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death" Speech

1) Henry’s speech was a call to action.  What did he want his fellow Virginians to do?  How did he justify his desire?  In what ways did Henry address the concerns of those who did not agree with him?
2) Slavery was a common theme in Henry’s speech.  What specific imagery did Henry use to illustrate his message?  Why would those images have resonated so strongly with his audience?
3) Throughout his speech, Henry referenced a variety of Biblical themes.  What are some of the most striking references Henry used?  Why would these themes have resonated with his audience?

policy issue analysis

Analyze a piece of health legislation, a regulation, or a policy issue with significance to nursing. You may identify an issue from media reports, the professional literature, or from personal interest. Include how historical, personal values, social, financial, and other influences have shaped the policy. Though the one you develop will not be as detailed, one of the course texts, Mason, Leavitt & Chaffee (2007) has information about the content of each of the policy issue analysis section headings below as well as a very detailed example of a policy issue analysis on pages 83 -91.

Ethics and Poverty

From your research you know that there are a number of government programs that are available to help those in need. From food to housing to assistance with job training, the government spends money helping its citizens who are in less than desirable conditions. The government’s view is that it is there to help those in need and through its programs. This, the government hopes, will lead to a reduction of those who are in poverty, are hungry, or are homeless.
However, the answer to what is the right thing to do in terms of the government’s role in providing for citizens and citizens’ own individual rights varies by according to the ethical perspective. The three ethical perspectives we discuss in the class are the political philosophies of Utilitarianism, Libertarianism, and Egalitarianism.
In this paper you are charged with applying each of these perspectives to the government’s role in providing for citizens. You should discuss each perspective and what it would say about the government (i.e., taxpayer dollars) providing for those in need through government programs (i.e., SNAP, housing supplements, WIC, etc.).
