International Controversy

Research about the news coverage of one international controversy such as terrorism or global warming by both a mainstream commercial medium (fox, NBC, msnbc, abc) and a public service medium in the United States, and write a report.

In the report, please critically analyze both media agendas, frames, and bias, as well as similarities and differences of the coverage of both types of media.

 

Summative assessment portfolio

The portfolio should include the following;

–       SWOC analysis

  • You will work with your practice advisor to identify your current strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges in relation to your own area of anaesthetic practice. The identified weaknesses will become the areas for development in the practice reports.

–       Learning outcomes

  • The learning outcomes will be developed with your academic supervisor and will outline what you hope to achieve on completion of the module. The learning outcomes should identify how the areas for development highlighted by the SWOC analysis will be addressed.

–       Three practice reports (2000 words each)

  • Please see details of the expected content of each practice report in the section on assessment criteria.

–       Conclusion (1000 words)

  • The final section of the portfolio should critically evaluate whether and how the learning outcomes have been achieved and identify areas for future professional development

Summative assessment criteria

The portfolio should contain all of the required elements (SWOC analysis; learning outcomes; three practice reports and a conclusion)

The portfolio will be assessed against the following criteria;

–       Critical evaluation of the students own strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and constraints presented using a SWOC analysis template

–       Formulation of learning outcomes appropriate for level 7 study, based on identified areas for development (weaknesses)

–       Critical evaluation of whether and how the learning outcomes have been achieved and identification of areas for further professional development

–       Adhere to the school of health and social care policy for consent and confidentiality

–       Adhere to the school of health and social care guidelines for presentation and referencing

The individual practice reports will be assessed against the following criteria;

–       Identification of practice –related problem and reasoned justification for seeking external evidence

–       A comprehensive and logically structured search strategy

–       Comprehensive and critical evaluation and discussion of the evidence related to the problem

–       Synthesis of the evidence and argued recommendations for the future management of practice

Strategic Management

identify and study an interesting strategic issue(s) (like, outsourcing, merging, strategic planning, business models,…) relating to an industry of choice at the global/regional/or national level.

Handsoff Doctrine

discuss and explain the “Hands off” doctrine.  Explain what prison conditions were like and how prisoners were treated before the policy of hands off ended. Once ended, what problems did prison officials begin to face from the inmates and how how were those issues eventually dealt with.

US History

John Winthrop distinguished between natural and moral liberty. What was the difference? How did moral liberty work, and how did Puritans define liberty and freedom? Discuss the restrictions of moral liberty and the consequences as illustrated by Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson. Be sure to address Winthrop’s speech in the “Voices of Freedom” box.

Compare and contrast motivations behind the Chesapeake and New England colonies. Explain the newcomers relations with Native Americans.

New York Times (Critical Issues, Corporate Strategies and Competitive strategies)

1.  Critical Issues:  Define your critical issues and briefly discuss each.  (20 points)

  • Use a numbered (bulleted) format, not a narrative format

2.  Competitive/ Business Strategy (30 points)

  1. What is New York Time’s current competitive strategy: 
    1. How has the New York Times gained Cost Advantage?
    2. How has the New York Times gained Differentiation Advantage?

 

  • Propose a comprehensive list of future Competitive Strategy alternatives for the New York Times:

    1. What future strategy alternatives are available to the New York Times to gain future Cost Advantage?
    2. What future strategy alternatives are available to the New York Times to gain future Differentiation Advantage?

3.  Corporate/ Directional Strategy (30 points)

  1. What Corporate/ Directional Strategies is the New York Times currently pursuing?  Be certain to cover each of the following areas:
    1. Intensive Strategies

    3. Diversification Strategies
  1. Propose a comprehensive list of future Corporate Strategy alternatives for the New York Times in each of the 3 types of directional strategies listed above.

4.  Conclusion and Strategy Recommendation (20 points): 

From your list of available strategy alternatives in questions # 2 and 3, propose a specific and thorough future strategy recommendation set for the New York Times. 

  • Make certain your recommendations are thorough, consistent with one another, and address your critical issues.
  • Discuss how and why you selected your strategy set.
  • Make certain that your strategy recommendation includes the following:

    • Business/ Competitive strategy
