Monograph Review: How the creation of the Brazilian Identity led to Modernization in Brazil

This should be a monograph review. The Resource for this paper: Tullis, F. L. M. (1973). Modernization in Brazil: A story of political dueling among politicians, charismatic leaders, and military guardians. Provo, Utah: Brigham Young University Press.

Organization:

• First paragraph: briefly summarize the book’s subject. Identify the who, what, when, where of the book. At the end of this paragraph, identify in one clear sentence the author’s main argument. What is significant about this time period/person or group/piece of policy/historical event, and how does it change the way that we understand Latin American history?

• Second paragraph: briefly summarize the book’s chapter organization. Is it built around one historical event? Does it look at a span of decades or more? Does it focus on the experiences of an individual or group of people? How do the different chapters contribute to the development of the history/story?

— Third paragraph: identify the sources that the author uses. To do this, you may need to look at the footnotes or endnotes. Is the story built upon interviews? Government documents? Legal or trial documents? Newspaper reports? Memoirs? Oral histories? Letters? Does the author analyze visual or popular culture, such as signs, posters, pamphlets, photographs? How do these archival materials contribute to the construction of the author’s narrative?

• One page: discuss the book in historical context. How does this case illuminate the themes that characterize Latin America at this time? How does it provide a deeper, or nuanced, or unexpected, or contradictory story from your general understanding of the broader topic? Does this reading represent a departure from the status quo, or is it a reiteration of a particular pattern observed elsewhere in Latin America? Here, feel free to make references to other readings assigned in class (see Style section below for how to cite these references). Also, provide specific examples from the monograph to illustrate your analysis.

• Final paragraph: discuss the ways that this book challenged your understanding of modern Latin American history, or resonated with topics from this or other classes.

Nurse Practice Act

Choose an advanced practice role (midwifery, nurse anesthetist, nurse practitioner). Describe how nurse practice acts govern the role you have chosen and give at least 2 examples of liability of the role. Give an example of how nurse practice acts are different between states. Finally, find one professional article outlining a legal or ethically situation with an advanced practice nurse.

#1 Description of Role & Association of Role with Nurse Practice Act

#2 Two examples of liability

#3 Discuss the different role ability between states

#4 Summarize an article discussing legal or ethical ramifications of an advanced practice nurse

research proposal

Each group of four will be provided with a recent article from the New England Journal of Medicine. Each article describes a clinical trial. From the trial data provided in the paper, and using the Estimating Sample Size Work Sheet developed by Matt, you will be able to estimate the necessary minimum participant number that a future trial would have to have in order to demonstrate therapeutic efficacy.
