• Activity 6.5 – Assignment: Research Paper

As a continuation of the Microsoft Dynamics topic in the previous module:

Select one of their four major ERP products (AX, GP, NAV, SL, or CRM), and write a detailed report about the MS Dynamics ERP you have selected and its associated models.
• Explain the functions associated and how the different models integrate with each other to create this ERP.
• Examine customer reviews, and find an organization that is currently using that particular product and why it has chosen this product.
• It would be an added value if you could reflect on what features have been the most beneficial for the organization, and what technical and operational advantages this particular product is giving them over similar products.
• You should also try to find out how they transitioned to the new system and what kind of steps were taken before and after the “go live” process, as it pertains to this module.
Your report should be no-less than three (3) page using current APA formatting. At the end of the report, create a separate section and write your own reflection of the MS Dynamics product you had selected. Your report should include proper references.

Here is the first part of this assignment

A problem Exists
In the society we live, we face a myriad of challenges and problems. Many of the
problems are as result of human activities. Global warming is a major problem that puts
the future generation at risk and therefore requires a solution.
Global warming is one of the major problems that face the world today. This
problem has an effect on climate as it causes climate change that threatens the survival of
the living organisms (Milfont, 2012). The major cause of this problem is the human
activities and it dates back many years when the industrial affluent were emitted in the air
without any filtration. Nowadays, every individual is responsible for global warming and
it is upon every individual to take the responsibility to solve this problem.
Global warming is one of the environmental problems that have a negative
impact on the life of the people across the world. There are challenges in fighting this
problem. One of the challenges is that many countries have not put in place measures to
control environmental pollution and degradation. The laws to protect the environment are
flouted allowing industries to emit toxic substances in the environment (Lerner, Lerner &
Wilmoth, 2006). Another challenge is that people are not taking individual
responsibilities to protect and enhance their environment. This problem, however can be
eliminated if appropriate measures are taken. One of the measures to solve the problem is
for the respectful governments in the world to put in place laws that will mandate people
not to pollute the environment. Industries should be regulated and those that go against
the laws persecuted (Milfont, 2012). Awareness should be increased to inform people on
the best ways to manage their environment. People themselves should take
responsibilities by always taking measures that enhances the environment.

Deforestation is yet another environmental problem that threatens the survival of
living things and the future lives of the living organisms (Lerner, Lerner & Wilmoth,
2006). Cutting down of trees is a challenge that needs to be solved amicably. As the
demand for tree goes up as a result of the increase in population and needs of households,
the forest cover is under threat. The challenge that faces this problem is lack of law
enforcement. The solution to this problem is to enforce the law and ensure that forest
covers are protected. The society should also be educated on the importance of planting
trees. For example a policy such as cut one and plant three need to be adopted and
enforced to ensure that the forests are not destroyed completely as they act as water
catchments areas.
The third problem that requires a solution is exploitation and misappropriation of
the available e resources. The rate of consumption of the resources at our disposal is at a
high rate. Many people are not able to utilize the resources well and this poses a risk of
extinction. For instance, resources such as water, minerals and even living organisms
such as fish face a threat. This is an economic as well as an environmental problem.
Continued exploitation of these natural resources affects the environment as the same
face depletion. The solution to this problem is to encourage reuse and recycling of the
resources to ensure that they do not face extinction. The economic problem attributable to
this is that, the rate of consumption increases and the demand of the products increases
hence placing a lot of pressure on them. Therefore, there is a need for the people to
regulate their consumption and to balance the rate of consumption to the economic
benefits.

In conclusion, we face various problems and challenges. One of the problems as
discussed in this paper is global warming that affects the climate. This environmental
problem must be approached in a better manner to avoid its ramification. The cutting
down of trees or deforestation is yet another challenge that we face as a people.
Similarly, the problem of overexploitation of the resources and misappropriation of the
available resources is a problem that requires amicable solution. The buck stops with the
government and the people in ensuring that these problems are solved. The future of our
countries and our generation will remain in balance if actions to mitigate these challenges
are not enforced. It is therefore a challenge to all the people to take the responsibility of
ensuring that the fight against these problems is fruitful.

Some Questions to Ask During a SWOT Analysisphoto © 2008 jean-louis Zimmermann | more info (via: Wylio)
The recent post SWOT Analysis: A Powerful and Underutilized Tool was very popular and generated some terrific comments. This post is a follow-up with a list of questions to ask during your SWOT Analysis.

SWOT is an acronym for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. The goal is to examine internal (Strengths & Weaknesses) and external (Opportunities and Threats) elements of a business. If there are multiple product lines or lines of business the SWOT Analysis can be defined more or less narrowly as necessary.

Many thanks to my friends at Bloggers Helping Bloggers and especially to Bruce Serven who suggested many of these questions

STRENGTHS:

1) What are your assets?
2) Which asset is strongest?
3) What differentiates you from your competitors?
4) Do you have immensely talented people on your staff?
5) Is your business debt free or have a better debt structure than your competitors?
6) Do you have a broad customer base?
7) What unique resources do you have?
8 Do you have a sustainable competitive advantage?
9) Do you have specific sales or marketing expertise?

WEAKNESSES:

1) What areas do you need to improve on?
2) What necessary expertise/manpower do you currently lack?
3) In what areas do your competitors have an edge?
4) Are you relying on one customer too much?
5) Do you have adequate cash flow to sustain you?
6) Do you have adequate profit levels?
7) Do you have a well of new ideas?
8 Are you over leveraged (too much debt)?

OPPORTUNITIES:

1) What external changes present interesting opportunities?
2) What trends might impact your industry?
3) Is there talent located elsewhere that you might be able to acquire?
4) Is a competitor failing to adequately service the market?
5) Is there an unmet need/want that you can fulfill?
6) Are there trends emerging that you can profitably service?
7) If you package your product differently, can you extract a higher premium for it?
8 Can you take advantage of the historically low interest rates to refinance your debt?

THREATS:

1) Is there a better equipped (funding, talent, mobility, etc) competitor in your market?
2) Is there an entity who may not be a competitor today which could possibly become one tomorrow?
3) Are your key staff satisfied in their work? Could they be poached by a competitor?
4) Is your intellectual property properly secured (trademarks, copyrights, firewalls, data security plans, etc) against theft & loss (both from internal & external sources)?
5) Do you have to rely on third parties for critical steps in your development process that could possibly derail your delivery schedule?
7) What if your supplier runs out of product and you experience an extended stockout or shortage?
8 What if there is a natural disaster?
9) What if your customers go bankrupt?
10) What if your website is hacked?
11) What if you are sued?

The Takeaway

Ask the tough questions during a SWOT Analysis to best understand the nature of the environment your business or product line faces. Then, take action on your findings.

Those are the ideas. What do you have to add? Please comment below.

1. What other questions would you add to the list?
2. Do you find SWOT Analysis to work best with a set of questions or with a free flowing conversation?
3. Will you change your approach now that you have seen a list of questions to use during your next SWOT?

Indiana’s domestic violence statute.

Case Study: Indiana’s domestic violence statute. Also box 10.1 on page 248.

PART 1:
In narrative format discuss Indiana’s domestic violence statutes especially in relation to officer response to domestic violence calls.

PART 2:
1. How would you classify Indiana’s arrest standard and why?

2. Does a mandatory arrest policy/statute undermine the possibility of exercising an ethic of care?

3. What is the ethic of care in discussed in chapter 10 and does Indiana’s statute help or hinder an officer’s ability to exercise that care? Why or why not?

PART 3:
If you were a Chief or Sheriff, what policies would you have to ensure that the domestic violence statutes were enforced while still allowing your officers to exercise an appropriate ethic of care.

PART 4:
“Does Character Count?” This means leaders in our organizations can have a positive or negative moral impact on an entire shift, organization, community, or society. Your readings in Chapter 10 reviewed virtue ethics and character so think of persons you know who are in leadership roles—your supervisor, manager, Chief, etc., what virtues should persons in such positions embody? What, if any, vices have you found most prevalent? What recommendations would you give?
