7 to 8 page essay analysing and comparing the “nature” in different port cities, Gdansk, Lubeck, Rostock and Hamburg. The first 3 pages should be an introduction of the topic and the final page a conclusion. can you also include a couple of pictures. With the remaining pages can you please write an annotated bibliography of the sources used.

Below is an Abstract of the topic…..
Following the theme of “portrait of a port city”, I have decided to analyze the nature aspect in different port cities – more specifically, Gdansk, Rostock, Lubek and Hamburg. Nature plays a great role in each city, as they are all port cities. I will take into account not only the port itself but the water channels, plant life and general environment. This will be an interesting topic as the cities vary. For example, factors such as the size of each city, their general income, yearly weather, population and more. The natural environment of a city is also of great importance, this being to their image, reputation, sustainability and overall ‘feel’. I will look at the areas surrounding the ports to further specify the study and to receive more reliable and comparable results. other topics to look at include : sustainability, waterfront, architecture, urban development and land occupation. Also define “what is nature”?

1) Essay and the Industry Project Plan: This item will require student to consider an industry-based topic that integrates the content from various aspects of the course. The Plan is a formative piece of assessment that will allow the convenor to provide feedback on argument, content, references and writing style.

Stage 1. 300-500 words. This is really an assignment plan.

You must provide an ‘industry-based topic’. You could choose anything that you know something about here. For example, international students working in the restaurant sector in Australia. Or perhaps, something that you seek to pursue as a career after your Masters – for example, Accountant. Another option is to choose an industry sector – for example, education or mining or construction etc. From here, you must tell me what is important an interesting about your topic – that is, explain why it is an important area to research. Is it a large part of the economy? How large? Is it a culturally important issue? In what ways? Is it under-researched?

The next stage is to select a number of the topics that are discussed throughout the semester. We have many to choose from – see the course outline. Some examples include – the role of the government, unions and employer associations, diversity and equity, reward systems, performance management and more. I would suggest you select two areas to investigate fully.

Finally, put together some dot points around the topics – those areas which you would like to cover for your main assignment. Remember, I will provide feedback on your first stage assignment for you to make the main assignment of 2000 words a stronger piece of work.

Drawing from Porter’s ‘Five Forces’ model with respect to ease/difficulty of market entry, critically assess the importance of any barriers to entry that remain, despite the freedom allowed through deregulation.

Drawing from Porter’s ‘Five Forces’ model with respect to ease/difficulty of market entry, critically assess the importance of any barriers to entry that remain, despite the freedom allowed through deregulation. Please use the following framework of potential entry barriers as a checklist with reference to your chosen route. In each case you must explain what the term means and apply it critically to air transport on your case study route:

a) economies of scale (do incumbents have an advantage over the small new entrant?)
b) capital requirements of entry (are these a significant deterrent for the new entrant?)
c) access to supply or distribution channels (is the new entrant disadvantaged here?)
d) differentiation by incumbents (airlines already established on the route) that distinguish them from the new entrant, and which mean that customers remain loyal
e) experience (which incumbents have and which the new entrant hasn’t got)
f) expected retaliation from incumbents
g) legislation or government action (are these likely to affect the new entrant more than the incumbents?)
