The law of three-strike declares that if someone is arrested for the third time after committing serious offenses, for example felony, such a repeat criminal receives a life sentence for a period that is not less than twenty five years. The three- strike law implies that in USA, the social control life courses are ineffective. The rate at which criminals are repeating similar offenses is high, and this is why the law has been developed as a deterrence strategy. Life course theories are not supportive in solving crime. The logic behind the three-strike law is to protect the community from habitual criminals. Life course theories do not deter crime in any way. They only teach people ways of overcoming crime. However, the high rate of repeat-criminals in USA also shows that the corrections department needs to give criminals life supportive courses as a way of solving crime (Legislative Analyst Office 1).
