You are being given the island of Isla Mujeres (Island of women). This is a real place. Let’s pretend that I bought the Island and I have thrown everyone off and I want to give it to communism to set up the ideal economic system. The Island is 5 miles long and a half  mile wide. Employee benefits play a key part of employee’s careers, their lives as well as their family’s lives. The benefits that are offered can be a deciding factor for a potential employee’s decision to work at an organization. Employee benefits that are mandated by the government can have either a positive or negative effect on the employee depending on the employee’s lifestyle and many other particulars that he or she has.
If an employer mandates specific benefits for employees, it will typically improve benefit coverage for the employee and their families. An example off this is with the Family and Medical Leave Act. The government has mandated that organizations meet minimum health and safety codes and the Family and Medical Leave Act requires that eligible employers provide certain employees with up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave per year. If an employee has a child that requires special medical treatment in which the parent/employee is required to care for the child for a lengthy period, the employee can take time off through the Family and Medical Leave Act and know that their job will still be there when they return under the guidelines in the organization’s benefits program.

When mandating benefits improve benefit provision, there will be offsetting effects. These include wage and other benefit cuts, reduced work hours, reduced employment, and possibly output reductions. Employer prejudice which say that employees are getting too expensive to insure may also result with producing labor market sorting and segmentation. A major potential issue that I foresee if companies are mandated to provide certain benefits like healthcare. If the government required companies to offer health coverage to their employees, those businesses which pay high wages would have to shift cost to the employees and wages would therefore have to be lowered. Our lesson tells us that “these employers that do not already provide insurance will find themselves in a situation where they must provide a benefit that costs more than their typical employee would be willing to pay for it themselves” (Martoccio).
From the research I have done on this topic, I found that most employees that are without benefits are typically self-employed, a minimum wage worker, or an employee of a small firm. However, most mandated benefit proposals exclude or reduce coverage for these workers to alleviate the financial burden on small firms. I believe that government intervention of mandated programs are for the most part beneficial to both the employee and the employer. Companies that are not governed by a mandated plan, would not be as enticing to me from a job hunting point-of-view but these companies may be able to offer higher salaries due to not having to pay

A waiting room at a clinical neurosciences laboratory has four patients who have agreed to be subjects in a study of how neurotransmitters affect mental health and illness. The four subjects waiting to be called include the following:
Daryl, 48, has schizophrenia. His greatest challenges are in planning ahead, staying organized, and engaging in critical problem solving on his own. He suffers delusions and often misses important appointments and dates with friends and family members. He lives alone and his apartment is usually messy, which causes him stress, yet he seems unable to do anything about it.
Patti, 30, has struggled with moderate-to-severe, sometimes crippling, depression off and on since the age of 14, shortly before the death of her mother. Patti is a perfectionist and can be very hard on herself. She recently turned to smoking marijuana when a friend gave her some at a party. “But I stopped,” she says, “because it didn’t help.” Since then she has tried to find a therapist who accepts Medicaid, but she has had no luck.
Ben, 23, has been afraid to leave his apartment lately, ever since he had surgery and had to recover at home. “I guess I just got used to being home,” he said. “I guess it just feels safe there.” He has begun to suffer acute anxiety every time he leaves his building. Ben confesses that every day, he frets and becomes anxious, anticipating any small hurdle in his workday. “It’s starting to affect my work,” he says.
Charlene, 82, has suffered increasing levels of confusion and disorientation, which began when her husband found her in the bedroom one day, trying to get dressed for her grandson’s wedding.
“It’s almost time to go, honey,” he had told her.
“Where are we going again?” she had said.
“Jeff’s wedding, remember?”

For example…How many shirts, what colors, control shirts (untreated dark and maybe bleached white as comparisons for the treated, how many times repeated, water temp, wash cycle, a scale to rate the smell, how many smell tester’s opinions did you get…you should get the idea, right? This should be detailed enough for anyone to understand and be able to duplicate exactly what you did!
IV. Results: What worked, or what didn’t. Data, charts, graphs, etc. go here. Pictures may be included too (before and after for example). Be sure to title them appropriately and include a descriptive caption.
V. Conclusions/future directions:
What can you say from your results? Be careful not to over-interpret! Explain anything that didn’t work as you expected, and discuss what you would logically want to do next.
