Consider drugs used to treat asthmatic patients including long-term control and quick relief treatment options for patients.

Asthma and Stepwise Management
Asthma is a respiratory disorder that affects children and adults. Advanced practice nurses often provide treatment to patients with these disorders. Sometimes patients require immediate treatment making it essential that you recognize and distinguish minor asthma symptoms from serious, life-threatening symptoms. Since symptoms and attacks are often induced by a trigger, advanced practice nurses must also help patients identify their triggers and recommend appropriate management options. Like many other disorders, there are various approaches to treating and managing care for asthmatic patients depending on individual patient factors. One method that supports the clinical decision-making of drug therapy plans for asthmatic patients is the stepwise approach, which you explore in this Assignment.
To prepare:
Consider drugs used to treat asthmatic patients including long-term control and quick relief treatment options for patients. Think about the impact these drugs might have on patients including adults and children.
Review Chapter 25 of the Arcangelo and Peterson text: Pharmacotherapeutics for advanced practice: A practical approach (3rd ed.
. Reflect on using the stepwise approach to asthma treatment and management.
Consider how stepwise management assists health care providers and patients in gaining and maintaining control of the disease.
To complete:
Write a 2- to 3- page paper that addresses the following:
Describe long-term control and quick relief treatment options for asthma patients, as well as the impact these drugs might have on patients.
Explain the stepwise approach to asthma treatment and management.
Explain how stepwise management assists health care providers and patients in gaining and maintaining control of the disease.

Module 4 Application
Submit at the end of Module 4.
Overview: Designing a Life Science Lesson Plan
For this assignment, you will review the Next Generation Science Standards and identify life science topics. Then you will select one topic and use it to design an integrated, inquiry-based science lesson plan.
Teaching a Lesson Plan:
In this course, you will design three lesson plans, one each in Modules 2, 3, and 4. You will select one of the lesson plans designed during this course to teach during the required field experience hours. You may teach your lesson in Modules 2, 3, or 4 and report on the experience in Module 5.
After teaching the lesson plan, you will analyze the data collected from a minimum of two of the following sources: (1) personal reflection of the lesson instruction, (2) feedback from elementary students’ assessment scores, and (3) peer-colleague or cooperative teacher. Your will revise your lesson plan by making adjustments based upon analysis.
Course Objectives
 Select appropriate literacy strategies that support the cultural/multicultural needs of students and deep understanding of science concepts.
 Demonstrate an understanding of appropriate assessment strategies for science content and skills.
 Integrate technology into science instruction.
 Describe content and inquiry-based strategies that motivate and engage students in the study of physical science, Earth and space science, life science, and engineering and technology.
 Describe the procedures and guidelines for establishing a safe science learning environment that provides opportunities for multisensory exploration and ensures the humane and ethical treatment of living organisms.

Note: You will use this document to complete this week’s Assignment.
To prepare:
Identify a common, simple event that frequently occurs in your organization that you would like to evaluate.
Consider how you would design a flowchart to represent the current workflow.
Consider what metrics you would use to determine the effectiveness of the current workflow and identify areas of waste.

To complete:
Write a paper which includes the following:
Create a simple flowchart of the activity you selected. (Review the Sample Workflow of Answering a Telephone in an Office document found in this week’s Learning Resources for an example.)
Next, in your paper:
Explain the process you have diagrammed.
For each step or decision point in the process, identify the following:
Who does this step? (It can be several people.)
What technology is used?
What policies and rules are involved in determining how, when, why, or where the step is executed?
What information is needed for the execution of this step?
Describe the metric that is currently used to measure the soundness of the workflow. Is it effective?
Describe any areas where improvements could occur and propose changes that could bring about these improvements in the workflow.
Summarize why it is important to be aware of the flow of an activity.
