Movie Report
Watch a movie relevant to world food issues and write a 2-3 page typed report it.
What to watch: Your movie can be a feature film (like Hotel Rwanda, or Gandhi) or a
documentary (like An Inconvenient Truth). It can be set in the present or in the past. You can
watch the movie in the theatre, on television, or on a DVD or video. The ISU library has a large
collection of feature films and documentaries available for viewing free of charge. There are
many movies that have relevance to world poverty and hunger. Almost any movie whose focus is
an impoverished developing nation will work, even if the story is mostly about the elite and
powerful in that nation, rather than the poor. There is a wide latitude in what you can pick that
will inform you about the world, and those who are least powerful: the poor in developing
nations.

Research the history (going back at least several hundred years, if not thousands of years), geography, culture, and economics of your country to explain why it is a developing nation. Try to answer these kinds of questions:
• Why is there hunger and poverty (Why didn’t this country come to rule the world like Europe did in the 19th century)?
• Who are the wealthy versus who are the poor?
• Why did the country fall behind in development (literacy, education, invention, industrialism, arms, wealth)?
• How did the poor get poor?
• How is poverty perpetuated?
• Is your country being exploited for resources (or was it in the past) by other world powers?
• Was it a colony or under imperialist control?
• Is its economy dependent on developed countries?
• Is it engaging in modernization?
•

Your office is asked to provide initial feedback to senior management regarding the project’s viability. Using the guiding questions below, develop a 2-3 page summary report. Your report should include at least 3 references and follow the CSU-Global APA guidelines for APA formatting and style.
1. The ability of the effort to succeed

3. The average total value of this project
4. Consider the average output rate out of the FDA review. If there are 200 projects in the pipeline for basic research, how does this project fare?

In the previous module, we investigated the viability of a new product development for a pharmaceutical industry project. The PMO is asking you to align your project outcomes with the mission statement of the corporation; therefore, your project was slated for approval “with conditions.”

Use the Internet to review at least five different PMO mission statements. In addition to providing a link to the mission statements you reviewed, compose a mission statement for a corporation that you create. The only requirements are that the corporation must be part of one of the following industries: information systems, healthcare, accounting/financial services, or construction. Your mission statement should be at least 20 words long and follow the CSU-Global APA guidelines for APA formatting and style. You will be graded on clarity, specificity, and ability to address a range of proposals.

Choose an industry which best aligns with your future career aspirations as a project manager from the following list:

First decide on an industry. Then select a real corporation that is large enough to house a Project Management Office (PMO). Find the organization’s mission, vision, and values statement. Also review the strategic plan of the organization. This can often be found in the annual report that corporations share with their shareholders and the general public online.

Your assignment is to write a 2-3 page report that provides an overview of the corporation where you are interested in starting a PMO. You will need to define and explain the organization’s mission, vision, and values as well as how they generate a profit or meet their goals. You will need to explain how the organization currently utilizes project managers, which can often be found by calling the human resources unit.

Jackson County judges try thousands of cases per year. In an overwhelming majority of the cases disposed, the verdict stands as rendered. However, some cases are appealed, and of those appealed, some of the cases are reversed. Jackie Chan of The Star Tribune conducted a study of cases handled by Jackson County judges over a three-year period. In the Excel file, Judges, linked at the bottom of the page, are the results for the 182,908 cases handled (disposed) by 40 judges in Common Pleas Court, Domestic Relations Court, and Municipal Court.

The purpose of the newspaper’s study was to evaluate the performance of the judges. The newspaper wanted to know which judges were doing a good job and which ones were making too many mistakes. You are to assist in the data analysis by using your knowledge of probability and conditional probability to help with the ranking of each of the judges, as well as each court.

Managerial Report

Prepare a report with your ranking of the judges based on the probabilities and conditional probabilities, as well as the analysis of each court. Include the following seven (7) items in table format to support your ranking. Be sure to use five (5) decimal places for your probabilities in the table, as some of them will be quite small.

The probability of cases being appealed in each of the three different courts.
The probability of cases being reversed in each of the three different courts.
The probability of cases being reversed given an appeal in each of the three different courts.
The probability of a case being appealed for each judge.
The probability of a case being reversed for each judge.
The probability of reversal, given an appeal for each judge.
Rank the judges within each court for each of the probabilities in 4 – 6. In other words, only rank the judges in the Common Pleas court against the other judges in the Common Pleas court. perfrom the same analysis for the other two courts. Then, within each court, find the sum of the ranks and get an overall ranking for each judge. Evaluate and discuss the meaning of your results. Use tables, charts, graphs, or visual dashboards to support your findings.
