The First annotated citation will be on the Topic of the “Legal and Ethical Dimensions of the Use of Information.” This information can be obtained from the Internet using a search engine such as Google Scholar. The annotated citation should be in APA format as much as possible, and should include the URL (address) of the Internet site; or a citation of the book or article if that was used. The annotation should provide a short overview of the article and/or list the most critical points. Please note that this one citation can relate to any topic and not only Language Development.

The second two of these citations will be full Text articles or books obtained through Databases of professional books and journals available at, or online through the CSUN Library. For more information on how to find these databases please see the discussion in the Class Requirements Section Online. These citations will be reported in APA format. Included in the annotation portion of each citation will be a paragraph, which briefly summarizes the article (you can usually get this information from the abstract), and answers following questions. If the answer is not available, you simply state that fact:

1. What is the background (authority) of the author (viz., degree and type of education, affiliated institution, history of research in the area as perhaps reflected by past articles in the bibliography)?

2. Who is the intended audience (i.e., professionals, laypersons, women etc.)?

3. How does this work compare or contrast with others you may have cited or be aware of? If you are not aware of any others, simply state that as the situation.

4. What is the scope and relevance of this work to the selected topic (hypothesis)? What the heck do I mean by that? Well, is it highly or only vaguely relevant to the hypothesis; and is it of minor or major importance.

Regardless of their business models and industries, organizational leaders are expected to create realistic visions for their companies and the people that they guide. However, such visions often result in vastly different leadership styles. Therefore, experts have concluded that there is no one best leadership style geared towards guiding employees and companies to accomplishing organizational goals.

Using the Internet and Strayer databases, research your favorite senior executive (CEO, CFO, COO, Director, President, Founder, etc.) from any organization that has made a strong impact on his or her industry (fashion, music, food, banking, technology, automotive, etc.).

Blanche, Rose and Dorothy formed a partnership, Retirement Living, to provide temporary housing for elderly people in the Miami area. One of the temporary residents set fire to the house, which resulted in the loss of the entire building and contents. One of the residents, Sophia, sued Retirement Living and obtained a judgment of $ 50,000 against it, but the partnership could not pay the judgment.

McCoy, Spock and Kirk are interested in going into business together. McCoy inherited a great deal of money from his friend, Scotty. Spock is an award-winning salesman with a marketing degree from State University and worked for five years as a senior sales manager in a large automobile manufacturing corporation. Kirk is an engineer who has developed a vehicle that will, according to him, “allow people to boldly go where no man has gone before.” Kirk, Spock and McCoy believe a general partnership is the best form of business for the trio. Do you agree? Provide the advantages and disadvantages of their selection and then discuss two other options that might be more appropriate for the group. Case Study 3

The Conners family operates a small transportation service for the elderly to take them to doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping and other errands. The three (3) adult members of the Conners family, Dan, Roseanne and Jackie, would like to become a corporation and obtain limited liability; however, taxation at the corporate level would be very costly for them. If possible, Roseanne would rather be taxed as a partnership. Dan is worried about the additional paperwork and meetings that incorporation would surely bring. Jackie does not want a large board of directors to be formed. Jackie fears that the board would somehow detract from the family goals and orientation the business has always enjoyed. In light of these concerns, is there a corporate form or other type of business organization that would better suit the Conners family? Scenario:

You are part of a fact finding panel for your state court system. The court has a concern over the methods in which persons who are mentally ill violent offenders are handled. You are charged with selecting a modern court case (past 30 years) in which a sanity issue arose regarding a violent offender. The case may involve a Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity Plea, or it may involve a directive by the court for a sanity hearing. You may also select a case with a court consideration of idiot status was determined.

You must prepare a briefing report on the methods that were used to assess the defendant by the court in the case you selected. Discuss the outcome of the case and the mechanism that resulted in the defendant’s evaluation for sanity.

In a 3–5 page position paper, respond to the following:

Articulate the mental disorder(s) being considered by the court in the case that you selected, and why this disorder would make the defendant unfit for trial.
Explain the relationship between the actions and behavior that would cause the court to remand the defendant for a mental evaluation.
