The research paper in this course gives you the opportunity to study an important healthcare finance problem or challenge, analyze it in depth, and present your findings in an APA-formatted paper due in Unit VIII. Any topic introduced in this course may be selected for your paper. It is a good idea to conduct internet research on potential topics that you are considering for your research paper before selecting one. You will want to determine that plenty of information is available online for incorporation into your paper.

In preparing for the research paper, you will submit your research paper outline which will critically analyze issues related to your topic.

The research paper outline you submit must meet the following requirements:

 be at least one page in length (not including the cover and reference pages),

 include an original thesis,

 describe the approach that you will take to research the subject thesis, and

 include five references.

The research paper must meet the following requirements:

 include an original thesis statement,

 be at least five pages in length (not including the title page and references page),

 include at least 10 references, and

 correctly employ APA style formatting.

Unit VIII Research Paper

Falls are one of the leading causes of death and injuries in the construction industry. Your final assignment is to write a research paper on falls in construction. It is not intended for you to write an accident analysis or a paper on OSHA. Your paper should use an accident(s) to support your research, but should not be the focus of your paper. It is also not necessary to give the name of an injured person, describe the effect on family, and give the OSHA violation and fine amount, etc., as they are not desired in this paper.

An acceptable example would be falls from ladders, to include:

What are the common causative factors?

What does data indicate?

What are the effective proven corrective measures?

Write a fall protection plan for a contractor at a new construction site. Employees will be using aerial baskets, scaffolds, and crane baskets. In August of 2006 Gunter Grass revealed to journalists that he was a member – albeit a youthful member – of the Waffen SS, a paramilitary extension of the Nazi party deemed a criminal organization by the Allied judiciary at Nuremberg. The outcry was enormous. Among other things it was suggested that the Nobel Prize bestowed upon Grass be revoked. Having read Peeling the Onion decide, to whatever extent possible, if Grass, by his own admission, is answerable to the accusations made by Levi in his The Drowned and the Saved, those Levi directs against “average” Germans. Can youth and the forces of history be cited in Grass’ defense? Does he make any sort of effort on his own behalf to excuse his conduct during the war? Is his account believable? A portfolio, for all practical purposes, is a “show-and-tell,” enlarged résumé, or a sophisticated scrapbook that offers you the unique opportunity of presenting your education, accomplishments, and skills. It is no longer true that primarily only people in the visual, communication, and education fields prepare portfolios. Times have truly changed and job seekers in all industries are taking advantage of the distinct edge that a well-prepared portfolio provides when interviewing. The résumé can get you the interview; the portfolio can get you the job!

For this assignment, you must create a PowerPoint portfolio with the following steps:

· Using Microsoft Word, you will prepare a cover letter to a particular company, as an interest letter in which you are seeking a specific position (real or created). This document should be constructed to look as if it were an email. Attach portfolio separately.

· Using PowerPoint, you will prepare your portfolio with the sections noted below. Be sure that any scanned items such as transcripts, etc. are clear and straight on the page. Be creative (color, visuals, transitions, etc.) but make your work clear and concise.
