	Reflect: Our political system is characterized by certain fundamental features to include a system of laws, rights, and liberties. The laws, created and supported by the Constitutional framework, are designed to protect and secure the rights and liberties of individuals and groups throughout the U.S. However, the government also has an obligation to provide for the security of its citizens from serious internal and external threats that could cause grave or severe damage to our country. The need for homeland and national security can create a dilemma where conflicts emerge between these security needs and the demands for civil rights and liberties.
	Write: In your initial post, explain what obligations the U.S. government has towards its citizens and how can these obligations impact individual and group rights? The various political actors involved in the processes, activities, and policies of the U.S. government each have evolving goals and objectives. In addition, these actors have produced differential effects, both positive and negative, on the processes, activities, and policies of the federal government. In this last weekly worksheet, you will assess the positive and negative impacts of political parties, interest groups, or federal elections on the national government. In addition, you will recommend one option to enhance the positive impact and one to diminish the negative impact. This final effort will conclude the process of critically analyzing key features of our national government and prepare you for completion of your Final Paper in Week Five.

4. Summarize similar success stories by similar government agencies within the U.S. and include the criminals that were caught, the agencies (if any) that were involved, and the sanctions or charges the criminals faced.

Note on Mission Statements

Business schools give a list of approximately 9 basic components to mission statements, but not all are required in every mission statement to be effective. Choose the pieces that apply to you.
Customer – Mission Statements should answer the question ” Who are your customers?”
Products and Services – What are your major products/services?
Markets – Define the markets in which you are competing.
Technology – Define the technology which you use in running your business
Concern of survival, growth and profitability – How are you committed to growth and financial soundness?
Philosophy – What are your basic, belief, values, aspiration and ethical priorities.
Self concept – What is your distinctive competence or major competitive advantage.
Concern of public image – How are you responsive to social, community and environmental concerns?
Concern of employees – Are employees valuable assets of the firm?

Your statement can be a sentence, a paragraph, or a page. Look other mission statements to get ideas, but don’t be a copy-cat! After reading them, take the time to define exactly who you are. Remember that your mission statement needs to be about what differentiates you from the rest of the pack.

Differentiation usually occurs on one of three aspects: (a) Quality, (b) Cost, and (c) Focus (a special group of customers you plan to service).  Don’t try to do everything – you will not to do any successfully.

As a hotel, where is your focus? A specific customer base? Convenience? Customer service? Special amenities or add-on services?

 

Scenario: You are currently employed by a national Auto Parts retail chain. You started out as a customer service representative and have moved your way up through the ranks to store manager. Recently your company has indicated that they wish to promote you to District Manager, however, they want you to find your replacement as Store Manager.

Recruiting for labor, whether it is to expand operations or to replace outgoing personnel requires and understanding of the needs of the business and the skills necessary to perform the tasks at hand. When we seek to expand current operations we typically look outside or to new labor. However, when we are looking to replace or promote, we sometimes look internally.

Why might a business choose to use a qualitative research approach? Think of the problem or opportunity developed in Module 3 and a manager you know who might want to resolve it.
