The relationship between the organization and its members can be greatly influenced by what motivates individuals to work. The style of leadership, job design, resources on the job, and environment can all have a significant effect on the satisfaction of employees and their performance. Performance is also influenced by individual motivations (e.g., social, recognition, financial reward, personal growth and development, and/or intrinsic satisfaction) and can equally impact the organization. There are many theories that attempt to explain the nature of motivation. Write a four- to five-page paper (excluding the title and reference pages) evaluating the relationship between motivation, job satisfaction, and work performance. Be sure to address the following:

1. Describe a performance issue which resulted from a motivational problem (what, why, who).
2. Use a content theory of motivation (e.g., Maslow, Alderfer, Herzberg, or McClelland) or a process theory (i.e., Adams, Locke, or Heider and Kelley) to explain how the issue creates a performance problem for the organization.
3. Use the theory of motivation you selected to describe an intervention/action to change the motivation/behavior and correct the performance problem.

Your paper must use a minimum of three scholarly sources, in addition to the textbook. Your paper must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center..

1. Paper should be 6 pages in length when double-spaced and using a 12 point font.
2. Include at least four sources;  the textbook may be used as one of your sources. 
3. Please DO NOT cite any online reference encyclopedias such as Wikipedia, Britannica, or Encarta. 
4. Your sources should consist of scholarly journal articles and books available through the Ivy Tech Virtual Library ONLY. 
5. All sources must be cited (must have an end note or a foot note) and the source included in a bibliography. The format of the citations and bibliography must be of a nationally accepted formatting system such as MLA or APA.

 

The paper must be based upon YOUR CHOICE of A or B:

 

1. Compare and contrast the concepts of determinism, compatibilism, and libertarianism. What are the strengths and weaknesses of each of these positions? Which one do you believe is the most likely to be correct? Why?

 

1. Compare and contrast the ethical theories of Aristotle and Immanuel Kant.  What are the strengths and weaknesses of each of these positions?  Which one do you believe is the most likely to be correct?  Why?

 

The paper is worth 100 points.

 

Essays will be graded based upon the criteria given below:

 

COMMAND OF TOPIC (up to 50 points)

 

Essay addresses assignment, and demonstrates independent thinking and familiarity with course materials.

 

ARGUMENTATIVE DEVELOPMENT (up to 30 points)

 

Essay shows careful development of related ideas in coherent, sequential paragraphs.

This week your brief writing assignment will address one of this week’s discussion questions (including your own if you chose to go your own way). The purpose of this is to develop a personal response that builds on the class discussion. Read everyone’s comments carefully and then craft your own. One page double spaced will suffice. 1) Food figures prominently in this story; Lahiri meticulously describes each of the meals they eat (and it makes me hungry every time!). What do you make of all this food? What is its significance and how does it contribute to the story’s larger meaning and effect? 2) How do you interpret the end of the story? Upon learning about Pirzada’s family, why does Lilia throw away the remaining candy, and why does she “not feel like celebrating”? What is the significance of the candy?

All students will submit a final project no later than the last day of the term. The project should focus on a specific type of crime, such as: Urban gang violence; domestic violence; terrorism; heroin use; the manufacture of methamphetamines (i.e. “meth labs”); animal abuse; drunk driving; human trafficking; mortgage fraud. (If you have an idea for a different type of crime, write to your professor for approval before proceeding.) Proceed as follows: 1) Conduct a literature review to describe the nature and extent of your selected crime. 2) Analyze your selected crime from the vantage point of the following three paradigms: Classical, positivist, and critical. How would each perspective explain your crime, and how would they suggest addressing it? 3) Of the three paradigms, which do you think provides the best explanation of your crime? Explain your answer. 4) Finally, design a comprehensive plan for reducing crime from your selected paradigm. Be sure to apply specific theories and theoretical concepts in your design. For example, if you select the classical perspective, you might apply routine activities theory, situational crime prevention, and/or broken windows, and so on. Completed papers should be approximately 15-20 pages in length, not counting title page and reference list. All information must be drawn from government reports and/or academic/scholarly/professional books or journals, with a minimum of ten (10) high-quality sources required.

Training is a fundamental component to any organization. Organizations spend thousands of dollars each year to train and develop employees. Many of the programs do not produce the desired result of increased productivity.

Using the Argosy University online library resources, research factors to determine how needs assessments benefit organizations.

Write a 6-8 page paper addressing the following items:

• Identify steps companies can employ to modify ineffective training programs that are not cost effective

Over the past few years, racial profiling has been in the news because of high profile cases involving the deadly force used against unarmed African American men. To set the tone for this discussion, please read How Much Racial Profiling Happens in Ferguson?
