Due Sunday before Midnight in MLA.
Due Sunday before Midnight in MLA.
Healthcare organizations require astute handling of strategy implementation. The processes must be followed with a contingency plan in place for failed strategic objectives leading to the goal.
Your paper
To guide your research for your individual outline and your discussion next week, your group should decide which questions need to be answered during Step 2 (Analysis of the Problem). Your text lists the following questions. You may select any or all of the following questions to answer during your in-class discussion next week and possibly add your own questions.
Why has it become as issue?
How much longer before action must be taken
Effect?
How is the money used; how can it be cut?
How long has the problem been in existence?
How widespread is the problem?
What are the causes of the problem? The effects?
Who is harmed by the problem?
What methods already exist for managing the problem?
Additional questions ???
Requirements:
Your group will complete a problem-solving panel discussion(in class & online) on a policy question that is of interest to you and your audience. The objective of this assignment is for you to practice consensus-building as it relates to group problem-solving.
Your group should first select a question of policy that is of interest to your group members and to your audience. The policy question should be one that allows you to provide a mix of evidence (e.g. examples, stories, statistics, and expert testimony) and opinion. Example: What should schools do to lower the rate of child obesity? Make sure that your question is not too broad in scope.
Each group member must research the topic/problem and organize an outline using Dewey’s 6 Steps to Reflective Thinking as explained below.
I. Identify and Define the Problem (Step 1): Phrase the topic as a policy question (before the discussion). During the discussion, you should define terms in your question as well as unfamiliar terms that might come up during the discussion.
II. Analyze the Problem (Step 2): Before the class discussion, identify relevant questions (pg. 48) and provide necessary ideas and evident (examples, stories, statistics, and expert testimony) on your outline to answer the questions.
III. Standards/Criteria (Step 3): List the standards or guidelines that you feel your solution must meet. Standards usually begin with “Our solution should…)—see text/electronic reserve for examples.
IV. Possible Solutions (Step 4): You should provide 5-10 possible solutions to your problem.
V. Best Solution (Step 5): Look at your list of possible solutions and your information for Steps 2 + 3 and then decide what you think is the best solution(s) to your problem. Keep in mind that when your group collaborates on this step, you might see the benefits of other solutions.
VI. Implementation and Testing (Step 6): Describe how you would go about implementing and testing your solution for effectiveness. Again, keep in mind that this might change when your group collaborates on this step.
You must bring your 6 step outline to our next class (Note: Step 2 should be your longest step). You will use your outline in class foryour panel discussion. If all group members come to class prepared, your group should have lots of information and ideas to share (about 20 minutes). After the in-class panel discussion, you must hand in your 6 step outline (10 pts.).
After the in class discussion, you are now ready to communicate as a group online. Before you begin your online discussion, your group must select a recorder who will create a Google Doc/Drive for your group. The recorder should begin the Google Doc with a summary of step 3 and then share the document with the group members and me (aocampbell3@gmail.com). Group members should be given editing rights.

Assignment 2: LASA 2—Presentation of Strategy Audit Findings
In this assignment, integrate all the pieces of work you have drafted and formally turn it into the capstone strategy audit.
In previous assignments, you performed multiple, specified analyses of your company (or any company of your choosing). Those individual analyses provide the needed research to successfully complete the following LASA.
Part I: Strategy Audit Report
Using the tools and framework learned in class and throughout the program, prepare a 15-page strategy audit of your company with a companion presentation. The strategy audit is a comprehensive analysis of the company’s business strategy and operating performance, and culminates in a series of recommendations for improving your company’s performance based on the findings and conclusions of your analysis.
A strategy audit involves assessing the actual direction of a business and comparing that course to the direction required to succeed in a changing environment. A company’s actual direction is the sum of what it does and does not do, how well the organization is internally aligned to support the strategy, and how viable the strategy is when compared to the external market, competitors, and financial realities. These two categories, the internal assessment and the external or environmental assessment, make up the major elements of a strategy audit.
In your strategy audit:
You are to write this report as though you are a consultant to your company, and are addressing the executive officers of this company. You will collect and analyze a large amount of data in producing your report, but your final product will be condensed and focus on presenting your analysis findings and conclusions.
Your report should consist of the following sections in the given order.
In developing your recommendations for addressing each strategic issue, consider misalignments that might be apparent in different operating areas:
Your recommendations should fall into these general categories, but should be specific in terms of scope and expected impact.
These sections have been completed earlier in the course, and should appear as appendices:
Use information from your previous assignments to support your conclusions and recommendations and conduct additional research when needed. Make sure you properly reference and cite so that the location of information is clear.
Submit your 15-page report in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M5_A2.doc.
Part II: Companion Presentation
Finalize the companion with a 10-slide Power Point Presentation that summarizes the audit and recommendations in a compelling manner that persuades senior management to explore and possibly implement your recommendations. The elements of the presentation should include the following:
By Wednesday, October 21, 2015, deliver your report and PowerPoint presentation to the M5: Assignment 2 Dropbox. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M5_A2.ppt.
This assignment is worth 300 points and will be graded using the LASA rubric you can download.

Session 7 Questions
Assignment Questions
#1- You are planning to buy 100 shares preferred stock, either Stock A or Stock B. Stock A pays an annual dividend of $4.50 and has a market price of $35. Stock B pays an annual dividend of $4.25 and has a market price of $36. If your required rate of return is 12%, which stock should you buy? HINT: Calculate the appropriate metric and decide.
I would choose stock A as it has a lower selling price of $35.00, pays a higher dividend or $4.50 and the required rate of return is this same.
#2- You intend to buy Marigo common stock at $100 per share, hold it for one year, and sell it after receiving a cash dividend of $6. How much will the stock price have to appreciate for you to achieve a required rate of return of 11%?
D1 = 6, P0=100 (50), Ks = 11% (15%)
SO we have P0 = D1/(Ks-g)
or g = Ks – D1/P0 = 11% – 6/100 = 5%
So P1 = D1*(1+g)/(Ks-g) = 6*(1+5%)/(11%-5%) = $105.00
So Stock price should be $105.00 for giving a 11% return.
#3- You are considering three investments.
(You are NOT expected to do Excel calculations on this assignment. Therefore, the Excel results are shown below. Explain the inputs, output, and the interpretation of the output.)
Using the panel of Excel data on the next page and the Stocks Support Template 2015.xlsx that shows the formulas in the cells, answer these questions:
Review the Sample Annotated Bibliography in the Tutorials & Guides section of the Center for Writing Excellence.
Use at least five resources to complete an annotated bibliography on your topic for the Advocacy Project and Resource Packet due in Week Six. Each annotation must be 100 to 150 words.
Include articles that discuss educational, professional, and social struggles.
Explain which struggles are discussed in the article.
Describe how the author’s perspective on the struggle is similar to or different from the other articles you researched.
Format the annotated bibliography consistent with APA guidelines.
Review the three scenarios below. Choose one of them and address the questions asked within your selected scenario in the form of a written analysis.
Scenario No. 1: HIPAA Privacy Rule
Case Study: Imagine that you are the privacy officer for a small town hospital. You receive a report that there is a breach of privacy. You are informed that a 15-year-old girl is received at the emergency with an emergency labor. The baby is delivered in the emergency room as there is no time to move the patient to the obstetrics (OB) department. In addition to the emergency delivery, the baby is born with multiple medical problems. Once the mother and baby are moved to obstetrics and neonate, care is given to both.
The OB nurse who took care of the mother and baby completes her shift, and she goes home to her own daughter to have a talk with her. She sits her daughter down and pleads with the girl to tell her if she ever has any problems, especially when it comes to pregnancy. The nurse tells her daughter the story about the young patient who delivered that evening, and she accidentally mentions the patient’s name. The patient’s name is one of those odd names that immediately triggers the nurse’s daughter to relay that she knows the patient. The mother/nurse, realizing that she made a big mistake by mentioning the patient’s name, pleads with her daughter not to say anything. Needless to say, word shoots through the four high schools in the town the next day.
The nurse returns to work the following evening, and she contacts you to hand in her badge and keys, stating that she knows she made a mistake by breaching the young patient’s privacy and she knows she is going to be fired. In addition to the breach of the obstetrics nurse, you learn that the patient hid her pregnancy from her family, and to make matters worse, her aunt and mother are both nurses at the hospital. You know both of these nurses on a professional and personal level.
Scenario No. 1 HIPAA Privacy Rule Project Assignment:
Research the HIPAA Privacy Rule here:
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. (2002). Standards for privacy of individually identifiable health information; Final Rule. Federal Register, 67(157), 53182-53273. Retrieved fromhttp://www.hhs.gov/ocr/privacy/hipaa/administrative/privacyrule/privrulepd.pdf.
Then, perform additional research regarding the HIPAA Privacy Rule and prepare your Final Paper by analyzing the issues through these questions in regards to the above scenario:
Scenario No. 2: DNR
Project Assignment: Review your State Government’s website and search for its official Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) Form. Along with the form will be information and instructions regarding the form. In addition, research three area hospitals to determine if they provide separate DNR forms. Then, perform additional research regarding DNR and prepare your Final Paper by analyzing the issues through these steps:
Scenario No. 3: Institutional Code of Ethics
Project Assignment: Codes of ethics are standards that outline how individuals or groups of people are to act. The healthcare/medical community has its own code of ethics, which is outlined in the American Medical Association’s Code of Medical Ethics. Review the following:
American Medical Association. (2013). AMA’s code of medical ethics. Retrieved from http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/physician-resources/medical-ethics/code-medical-ethics.page.
Then, prepare your Final Paper by analyzing the issues through these steps:
Writing the Final Paper
The Final Paper:
I chose scenario number 2, DNR.
I live in the state of Alabama.
This is the website address for Alabama’s (my state) DNR form: http://adph.org/ems/assets/EMSDNAR.pdf
Three hospitals in my state are: Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, University of Alabama in Birmingham, and Baptist Hospitals in Montgomery, and extra is St. Vincent’s and Brookwood in Birmingham.
Scatterplots and Correlation
So far we have been examining one variable at a time. In practice, we often want to look at several variables at once. In this chapter, we will specifically consider how to analyze two quantitative variables.
A response variable measures an outcome of a study.
An explanatory variable may explain or influence changes in a response variable.
Ex. Suppose that individuals are given different amounts of alcohol, and then reaction times for a particular activity are measured.
Often explanatory variables are called independent variables, and response variables are called dependent variables.
Note that a cause-and-effect relationship may or may not exist, but we cannot determine causality.
Two variables measured on the same individual are associated if some values of one variable tend to occur with some values of the second variable more than with other values of that variable.
Ex.
Displaying Relationships: Scatterplots
A scatterplot shows the relationship between two quantitative variables measured on the same individuals. The values of one variable appear on the horizontal or x axis, and the values of the other variable appear on the vertical or y axis. Each individual in the data appears as a point in the plot.
If there is an explanatory variable and a response variable, the explanatory variable goes on the horizontal axis and the response variable on the vertical axis. If such a distinction cannot be made, ten either variable can go on either axis.
To interpret a scatterplot, look for the overall pattern and for striking deviations from that pattern. To describe the overall pattern, look at the (1) form, (2) direction, and (3) strength of the relationship. Also look for any outliers.
Two variables are positively associated when above-average values of one tend to accompany above-average values of the other, and below-average values also tend to occur together.
Ex. In a large group of people, there will be a positive association between height and weight.
Two variables are negatively associated when above-average values of one tend to accompany below-average values of the other, and vice versa.
Ex. In a large group of people, there will be a negative association between packs of cigarettes smoked and length of life.
Ex. Create a scatterplot to show the relationship between yearly average temperature and number of fires and yearly average temperature and area burned.
year average temperature (oF) number of fires acres burned (in millions)
2000 54.52 92250 7.39
2001 52.19 84079 3.57
2002 53.74 73457 7.18
2003 53.1 63629 3.96
2004 53.6 65461 8.1
2005 53.08 66753 8.69
2006 54.38 96385 9.87
2007 53.43 85705 9.33
2008 53.04 78979 5.29
2009 52.83 78792 5.92
2010 52.06 71971 3.42
2011 52.82 74126 8.71

temperature data from http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/temp-and-precip/time-series/index.php?parameter=tmp&month=5&year=2000&filter=12&state=110&div=0
In Excel, highlight the two variables of interest. Click Insert -> Scatter and select the appropriate chart type.
Ex. Fuel used vs. Speed
How does the fuel consumption of a car change as its speed increases?
Speed vs. fuel consumption per 100 km travelled for British Ford Escort
Describe the form of the relationship. Explain why the form makes sense.
Does it make sense to describe the variables as either positively or negatively associated? Why?
Measuring Linear Association: Correlation
We will look at one numerical measure of association, the correlation coefficient. Technically, correlation only makes sense when both variables are quantitative.
The correlation describes the direction and strength of a linear relationship between two quantitative variables. The correlation coefficient is usually written as r, the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient.
Now let’s learn how to calculate r. We will compute r based upon n observations on variables x and y: and . We denote this rXY, the correlation between X and Y.
Each observation is an ordered pair (). For example, and might be my age and my number of college hours earned.
Calculating the correlation coefficient
⦁ List the two values for each individual.
⦁ Compute the sum of X values, and compute the sum of Y values.
⦁ Square the X values.
⦁ Square the Y values.
⦁ Find the sum of the XY products.
⦁ Plug these values into the formula.
Ex. Calculate rXY by hand.
X Y X2 Y2 XY
4 6
7 4
10 2
3 8
2 9
Σ
Ex. Using Excel, find r for yearly average temperature and number of fires and yearly average temperature and area burned.
Note: The columns for the variables of interest must be next to each other.
⦁ Using the CORREL function: In the cell you want to display the correlation coefficient, type = CORREL(array1, array2).
⦁ array1 contains data for the X variable
⦁ array2 contains data for the Y variable
The objective of this assessment is to demonstrate your understanding of how the human resource function interacts with other functions in the organization.
