Domestic violence is a pattern of behavior displayed by individuals with the intention of broadcasting their superiority, control and power against their victims.

Domestic violence is a pattern of behavior displayed by individuals with the intention of broadcasting their superiority, control and power against their victims. It is achieved by instilling fear and insecurity to the individuals often by threat or violence. Such violence can happen to anyone regardless of age, gender, income, ethnicity, and race. Statistics shows that every one in four women experiences domestic violence during their lifetime. Research has established that women between the ages of eighteen to thirty-four are at a greater risk of experiencing domestic violence. They further point out that in two out of three homicide cases, the victims are mostly killed by their close family members. Moreover, it shows that over sixty percent of the incidences happen at home (Domestic Violence: Statistics & Facts, n.d.). The media has been proactive in reporting domestic violence cases. However, some articles do not clearly and professionally cover the questions that have to be addressed in covering the various stories. The paper summarizes one of the articles and evaluates it to establish whether it meets the requirements.
Summary of the Article
The article covers the story of a twenty-eight year old woman who finally opens up and narrates her story. It describes how her lover abused the woman. However, the article does not provide the real names of both the woman and the man in question. The story begins by describing how the woman and her lover first got into a relationship. The two met in London where the woman had moved to after she found a job. Their relationship kicked off. The story describes how the man gradually changed from being the sweet lover to being very violent. It all begins with the man complaining about most of the things the woman does. He complains about the makeup she puts on, the clothes she wears, how long she spends at work, and even the men she speaks to. Gradually the man unleashes his true self. He abused her, spat on her and even hit her. Her first attempt to threaten him by reporting to the authorities backfired leaving her terrified and helpless against the beast he had become. The beatings continued and went on and on until one day when he attacked her with a corkscrew. She finally got the courage to walk away. Through the support of her family and friends she underwent treatment and was able to rebuild her life and confidence (‘My partner abused me’, 2014.).
Evaluation
There are various aspects that have to be addressed when covering such stories (Covering Domestic Violence: A Guide for Informed Media, n.d.). The article has overlooked most of the elements. It does not bring to the attention of the readers of any prior incidences of violence that the man was involved in. There are no people mentioned in the article who can speak for the man. In fact, the article does not even provide the readers with any information about the man. No friends or neighbors are mentioned or if there were any around. It does not look at the impacts of domestic violence beyond the victim, and there is also no mention of how the abusers can get help only that she had received help when she left the abuser. Furthermore, the writer does not consult with or seek any statement from a recognized domestic violence expert or any local domestic violence advocate. However, the writer tried to provide the causes and triggers of the violence and as well as spoke about how she tried to leave once and things got worse. Taking into consideration all the issues that need to be addressed, it is right to conclude that the article does not accurately cover the story on domestic violence per the media guide and what the true portrait is in this story of the abused woman.

Discuss at least three important things to say about it–three areas of discussion.

Exemplification Essay

Write a 500-750 word essay using exemplification as a method of development. Include an outline with your essay.

Writing Approach

Determine exactly what point you are going to make and write it down in precise terms. Think about why you want to make this point. Develop a thesis statement (pages 47-49 in The St. Martin’s Handbook). Then choose examples and details that count for something, those that move the reader toward some goal.

Choose the best examples that honestly reflect the group or class they represent. Do not pick examples that do not support your thesis. Also, make sure that your examples display all the chief features of whatever you are illustrating.

Do not give your examples and their details in a haphazard manner; give some real thought to arranging them in the best possible order. You may use order of familiarity, climax, importance, or some other order.

If an essay develops a single example, try to have at least three important things to say about it–three areas of discussion.

During this first course, you will be provided with ample opportunities to explore what it means to be the tool-using animal: a human in a technological world. You will analyze the ways that you interact with and through technology, and you will also explore how the expression of our human selves has been altered, distorted, or more fully perfected in this online environment.

Learning online will put you into contact with a number of new technologies. Some of the tools that you will use will be easy to understand and even fun to engage with, but you may also encounter technology that you find frustrating. Technology can and does enhance learning, and technology can cause many distractions.

In this Assignment you will identify the degree to which you are a “tool using animal” and monitor and reflect upon your current levels of technology use.

Evaluate one to two potential challenges that may arise with your policies/procedures and propose solutions.

Why is it important to have a dedicated and knowledgeable leader in an early childhood education setting?  Describe two to three qualities that you feel are critical for such a leader to possess.  Draw either from your own experiences working in the early childhood field or from your own childhood.  What do you hope to gain from this course as a future early childhood administrator?

Word count 200

Financial Decisions

Imagine that you are on the board of directors of a church-based child care center.  After reviewing the budget for next year, you and your fellow board members realize that the center will have to make some tough decisions.  Choose one of the following budget scenarios to discuss.

  1. Budget Cuts: In order to stay profitable, the center will need to make budget cuts. You are concerned because you know that if salaries don’t go up, some teachers may resign.  On the other hand, if tuition rates increase, some of the families may not be able to afford to stay at the center. How will you and the board go about making these cost-saving decisions?
  2. Budget Surplus: Your center is in the enviable position of having a budget surplus that has resulted from careful financial management over the past several years. The center must allocate the excess funds in order to ensure future funding from the church. How will you and board go about making these spending decisions?

Using information from Chapter 3 and at least one other source (be sure to cite your source), describe two to three specific strategies to either save or spend money while meeting the needs of the teachers and families. Your discussion post should be at least 200 words in length.

Policies and Procedures

Early childhood education administrators are responsible for setting and maintaining the policies and procedures of the child care center or school.  Using Chapter 3 of the text and at least one other source (be sure to cite your source), choose one of the following policies and one of the following procedures, and explain how you would address the problem.

Policy (choose one)

  1. Sick Policy:  Your center has a policy that children cannot come to school if they have a fever, yet Mrs. Thompson brings her son Tyler to school anyway.
  2. Late Payment Policy:  If parents are more than 30 days behind on payments, the child may not attend.  Mr. Miller brings his daughter Sophie to school even though he is 45 days behind in payments.
  3. Biting Policy:  Your center abides by the “three strikes” rule for biting.  Connor has bitten children three times, yet his parents plead with you that he be allowed to still attend school.

Procedure (choose one)

  1. Daily Health Check Procedure:  Each teacher is supposed to perform a daily health check for each child but Sarah, the Pre-K teacher, repeatedly forgets.  This time, she missed a case of chicken pox which has now spread to several other children.
  2. Time Out Procedure:  Teachers routinely use the “time out” method to handle misbehavior in the classroom but Linda, the teacher in the toddler classroom, has been leaving children in the time out chair for long periods of time.
  3. Fire Drill Procedure:  During a fire drill, teachers are supposed to keep their children as quiet as possible in order to hear instructions.  Every teacher does a good job with this procedure, except Bill, the Pre-K teacher, who allows children to run and scream during fire drills.

In your discussion post,

  1. Explain the difference between a policy and a procedure.
  2. Provide two to three examples of each.
  3. Outline one to two ideas for implementing or enforcing policies and procedures.
  4. Evaluate one to two potential challenges that may arise with your policies/procedures and propose solutions.

Your discussion post should be at least 200 words in length.

Guided Response:  Review the posts of several of your peers with focus on how they would address each problem.  Respond to two or more of your peers as if you were the parent or the teacher in the scenario.  How would you respond to the proposed solution?  Each response should be at least 50 words in length.
