Discuss about some geographic phenomenon, whether it is cultural patterns, population changes, environmental processes, settlement patterns, et cetera.

Entry 4 – Maps Explain the World
It should be very clear to you at this point in the course that maps are valuable tools for visually displaying information. They are the primary way that geographers tell a story about some geographic phenomenon, whether it is cultural patterns, population changes, environmental processes, settlement patterns, et cetera. It is now your turn to show off your map interpretation skills! In this journal entry, you will explore the wealth of information available to you online from credible news organizations and other sources of visual information, and locate a map that you think is particularly interesting and relevant to human geography. Include the following content in your journal entry:

A link to the map, and a 1-2 sentence description of the maps source (1 point)
A short (1-2 paragraph) description of the maps topic. (1 point)
Your critique of the maps design – Is it easy to read, and why or why not? Is it visually interesting, and why or why not? Is there something about the maps design that you think should be improved? (3 points)
A discussion of how this map is useful for representing and explaining the geographic phenomena that is its topic. What do we see on the map that might be more difficult to represent in writing or in some other visual form (for example, a chart)? (3 points)

Explain important background information about the issue.

I need to write an argumentative paper with RELIABLE SOURCES from .org or .edu NO wikipedia or .com sources MUST RELIABLE. Below is the outline I want you to use as a guideline. I have the first two paragraphs and intro written but they could be fixe up. I will upload my half rough draft separately with all the WORKS CITED I WANT YOU TO USE-ONLY USE MY WORKS CITED- as well as below is the outline guideline:
Here is my topic: Early College High School
Here is my thesis (Which I am for): U.S. high school students who engage in early college high school courses are more likely to have early success in college.

guideline Outline for Argument Paper
It seems absurd for me to predict how much space you will need for each section, so I am just going to show you 2 alternate structures you could use, and you can just use a separate piece of paper to fill in your information. There are many ways to write a strong argumentative essay. This is just one suggestion to help you organize your thoughts. But the key elements that make a strong argumentative essay remain the same, and they should all be present in your paper regardless of the format you chose to follow.
I. Point Counterpoint
Introduction (in no particular order):
Explain important background information about the issue
Briefly introduce the main points your paper will cover
Hook the reader
Supporting point 1:
Topic sentence (introduces the information in the following paragraph and supports thesis at same time)
Evidence
Analysis
Concession (what would the other side say about this point?)
Your rebuttal to the other side (explain why they are wrong)
Supporting point 2:
Topic sentence (introduces the information in the following paragraph and supports thesis at same time)
Evidence
Analysis
Concession (what would the other side say about this point?)
Your rebuttal to the other side (explain why they are wrong)
Supporting point 3:
Topic sentence (introduces the information in the following paragraph and supports thesis at same time)
Evidence
Analysis
Concession (what would the other side say about this point?)
Your rebuttal to the other side (explain why they are wrong)
(You may need more than 3 supporting points, it depends on your argument)
Conclusion:
Summarize all of the main points in a way that is not redundant
Reiterate your thesis in a way that is not redundant
Prove why this argument is important

Identify some quality-of-life issues that are not being addressed by the crime- fighting strategy of Chief Slaughter.

In 1-2 pages, using APA-style formatting, provide an explanation of the meaning of the first and second laws of thermodynamics. Then, using the second law, explain why a barrel of oil can be used only once as a fuel source, or in other words, why can we not recycle high-quality energy resources.

Turning the Ship

Read the scenario below and answer the questions that follow using APA style formatting where appropriate:

You are the new chief of the Greenfield Police Department. After 30 years of iron-fisted control, Chief Slaughter has retired. Slaughter believed in the military model of police management and a traditional crime-fighting policing strategy. He was fully entrenched in the war on crime and ran his department like an army unit. His book of rules and regulations was a foot thick, and he demanded absolute compliance. Decisions were made in the chief’s office and passed down to the officers through layers of captains, lieutenants, and sergeants. At Chief Slaughter’s retirement ceremony, the mayor slaps you on the back and says, “You’ve got some big shoes to fill, son. That guy knew how to fight crime, and his officers never stepped out of line. Our crime rate was below the national average every year he was here.” The City Council presents Slaughter the Meritorious Service Award for 30 years of crime fighting. As a student of police history you realize that most police departments battle complex social problems and seldom march off to war. You know that crime rates are minimally influenced by crime fighting and are a poor indication of policing success. You also know that traditional organizational structures and policing strategies are slow to change and often are out of sync with one another. Most of your questions to the captains about department operations have generated the same response: “Because that’s the way we’ve always done it. If it ain’t broke, why fix it?”

You decide to visit with members of the community. A homeowner tells you that Chief Slaughter’s officers do a great job of patrolling her neighborhood, but she’s worried about the future impact of the deteriorating apartment complex across the street. She realizes it’s not a police problem. The manager of a senior citizens’ residence tells you that there hasn’t been a crime reported in their neighborhood in over a year, but the residents are afraid to go out at night. He thinks it’s the rumors that spread from crime reports on the television news. The business owners in the shopping center complain that customers are being driven away by kids skateboarding in the parking lot. They understand that the police have more urgent crime problems to fight. The high school principal praises the police department’s stringent traffic enforcement before and after school. He wishes he could resolve the growing truancy problem as efficiently as the police handle traffic. None of the people you talk to is personally acquainted with a Greenfield police officer. It appears the Greenfield Police Department is trapped in the reform era. They rely on preventive patrolling and rapid response as their primary policing strategies and seldom interact with the community. You review their mission statement and find it emphasizes the professional model of crime fighting.

Questions

  1. Suggest a mission statement that emphasizes the community era rather than the reform era.
  2. What process would you use to develop a new mission statement? Who would you include in the process? Is it wise to order officers to accept a mission statement?
  3. What changes would you introduce in policing strategies?
  4. What changes would you make in the organizational structure to enable the new strategy?
  5. Identify some quality-of-life issues that are not being addressed by the crime- fighting strategy of Chief Slaughter.

Discuss one factor speaks of creatively using self and creating a healing environment (Alligood, 2014, p. 98).

Please read the following essay below and respond to the essay and elaborate in a 300 word count with 3 references no more than 3 years old including:

Alligood, M. R. (2014). Nursing theory: Utilization and application (5th ed.). Maryland Heights, MO: Mosby Elsevier.

Jean Watson’s theory of caring is relevant in today’s nursing practice because caring is an essential component of being a nurse. As today’s nursing strives for quality of care, patient safety and patient–centered health care, Watson’s theory incorporates the human aspect and transpersonal caring. Her theory essentially is about practicing kindness and authenticity, a relational care for self and others (Watson, n.d). Implementing this mindset into our practice will improve outcomes for the ill and contribute greatly to their journey to well-being.

Jean Watson’s theory utilizes the ten carative factors that are recommendations for patient-centered practice for nurses to reference. The ten caritas factors essentially discusses practicing with kindness, helping our patients and creating a trusting presence. By implementing these behaviors in today’s care of our patients, we can achieve relationship building strategies that will improve beside care. One factor speaks of creatively using self and creating a healing environment (Alligood, 2014, p. 98). This can be demonstrated by personalizing hospital rooms to feel more like home, implement use of hospital IPADS to Skype distant family members, or celebrating a patient’s birthday by surprising them with balloons or cake. I have personally witnessed these strategies have a meaningful impact on patients of today. Another factor discusses engaging in genuine teaching-learning experience that attends to wholeness (Alligood, 2014, p. 98). Teaching is utilized every day in all aspects of the health profession as we teach our patients how to care properly for themselves, this is demonstrated every day, for example; diabetic teaching, nutrition, would management, self-administration of intravenous therapy. All clear examples of current educational and collaborative practice. Another element is being supportive of the expression of positive and negative feelings (Alligood, 2014, p. 99), our patients today open up to nurse’s routinely about their feelings and vulnerabilities. We have to take the time to listen in a nonjudgmental attitude and provide comfort and understanding. In today’s society there are so many facets of responsibility, that illness can have a dramatic impact on one’s life. There is financial concerns, employment, childcare, concerns of disability, and family, just to name a few. Providing emotional support is just another aspect of our responsibility today.

Cultivating one’s own spiritual practices (Alligood, 2014, p. 98), this is one of my current challenges today. There are now so many different types of religions and culture that we experience today, which we need to have a basic understanding to care properly for these patients. Our form of caring may not be conducive to their needs for healing. We may practice touch but to other cultures this is considered offensive. This particular factor, I feel, is most challenging for nursing of today, continued education and research will be an ongoing nursing practice.

I believe I have demonstrated how Jean Watson’s theory is used every day in our nursing practice. Our current practice model is about relationships, team and coordination to create an environment of health and healing. We can achieve this by creating a culture of safety and accountability by implementing Jean Watson’s theory of caring into today’s practice.

Application with Peer Review: Creating Systems Diagrams.

In your daily life, you may see a weather system diagram, a readout indicating whether a wireless device is connected to the network, or a traffic sign warning of traffic congestion. These indicators provide feedback on the systems they monitor. In business, managers use systems diagrams in a similar way to monitor operations, to identify the sources of problems, and to devise solutions.

As you review the case study “Opportunity Consultants, Inc., 2007,” consider OCI’s operations and problems. Think of factors that may be contributing to their poor results. Consider the turnaround team’s ideas for improving the club’s quality of work and what you would do if you were consulting with OCI.

Review the explanation of the “5-Whys” in the Weekly Briefing for this week. Also review the material on simple gap analysis. Think about how you could use these systems analysis tools to understand OCI’s options.

Assignment

For this Assignment:

    • Use a systems approach to analyze OCI’s performance and develop a case-specific “effect-cause-effect logic” tree diagram using the 5-Whys tool. See the rubric for details on what this diagram should contain. The diagram itself should be one page and can be hand-drawn or drawn with software.  Tables are not appropriate; it must be in the form of a diagram.

(Note: you should identify all high-level negative symptoms, then look for associated first-causes, then look for deeper root causes.  The shape of your diagram will roughly look like the outline of a tree).

  • Write a summary description of your diagram with specific recommendations for improving the clubs performance that are linked to your diagram analysis. (1 single spaced page).

Post a draft of your summary paper and diagram by Day 3 to the Peer Review Forum in theAssignments area of the course navigation menu.

To complete your Assignment, click on Assignments on the course navigation menu, and select “Week 2 Peer Review Forum” to begin.
