Do not judge or evaluate the scholar’s argument, justexplain it and all of its relevant components: the problem, question, thesis/declaration, action plan and mainclaims and evidence used to support the thesis. Pay attention to counter-arguments/evidence, how theauthor addresses the evidence supporting these alternative hypotheses, and how the author discusses thesignificance/implications of the thesis.Paraphrase and CitationTo demonstrate that you understand the argument, your summary must be written in your own words. If youfind it necessary to include a few of the author’s exact terms or concepts, you must signal these withquotation marks and in-text citations. You may not, however, include sentence-length or numerousquotations; rather, you should paraphrase the author’s ideas (still in your own words). You will cite allparaphrased material or data with in-text citations indicating the page number(s) from which this materialcomes, and you will include a Works Cited page to give you practice for final paper.

If the Native Americans had won

Respond to all of these questions in the paper as essay format1. What helped the European settlers colonize Native Americans? Consider: treaties, armies, courts, missionaries, disease. What could have helped Native Americans defeat the settlers? Consider: a common language, resistance to disease, continent-wide organizations, etc.2. If the Indians had won, what changes would there be in education, history, place names? For example, would people in the US be speaking Native languages instead of European ones? Would kids learn Native American history instead of European history? Would there be a Columbus day? Would this state be called Washington?3. What aspects of life would be different for native people if they had won? Would they be practicing Christianity? Would they be confined to small reservations in the most isolated parts of the country? Would their language be dying out? Would they be suffering the same way from poverty, ill health, early or preventable death? Would their images in the media be as negative or stereotypical?4. Does social progress or development of new technology depend on Europeans? Can Native Americans invent cars and computers, or develop cures for disease, or can only Europeans do these things? Did Native Americans need European guidance to improve their lives? Please use easy vocabulary not big words

Imagine you could be transported back in time to the 2nd century C.E. Also imagine you\’re a male (sorry, ladies!) born into the middle ranks of society. Your family is neither aristocratic nor impoverished. You are also highly ambitious and wish to serve in the imperial government. Would you choose to born into Han China or imperial Rome? Provide a reasoned argument for your choice.

Case: Cougars

The purpose of a case is to challenge you to identify the key issues of the decision situation at hand. Here are a few pointers:1. From the data in the case, reproduce implied spot curve. Compare it against Cougar Strip curve.2. Discuss the role of bid-ask spread in those calculations.3. How much value did A.G. Becker Paribas create for itself through the COUGARs offering? What was the source of this value? (Assume that the T-bill maturing on December 6, 1983 is trading at 8.11% discount yield on November 16, 1983.)4. What advice would you give to Ms. Baker? Why?You may organize and draft report in whichever way you see fit. If you feel that you have to make any assumptions, please do it by stating them clearly in your report. Please note: Those questions are designed to guide you to important points in your analysis. What is important and what is not in the case itself is up to you to determine and is part of a challenge for this case.I expect the report to be no longer than 6 pages plus appendices if necessary. Please use 11pt font or larger, decent line spacing and margins. You can also submit whatever supporting material you can see fit.

PAPER #2: CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION: VULNERABILITY, PREVENTION, AND REINTEGRATION

Sexual exploitation of a minor is a pretty broad category of crimes with children as victims. This includes crimes such as child prostitution, sex trafficking of minors, and child pornography. Chapter 7 in the Terry text provides a good orientation to the subject in general, but students will need to go forth and research the topic further in order to complete this paper. You may not use the text as a source. For the purposes of this paper, select a specific type of crime for the topic of your paper (please don’t try to cover several different varieties of exploitation – you need to focus on ONE type). PLEASE DO NOT SELECT SEXTING – as self-produced pornography, it does not lend itself to the parameters of this particular assignment and will result in SIGNIFICANT POINT DEDUCTIONS if you do use it as your paper topic.Address the following elements in your paper:• Discuss at least two (2) factors that make a child more vulnerable to this type of exploitation? For example, why would an offender select this particular child v. some other child?• Provide at least two (2) strategies that could prevent this type of victimization from occurring.• Finally, describe at least two (2) strategies for reintegrating these victims back into the community. For example, what do we do with these child victims to help them move forward from the experience of exploitation?Papers need to focus on one specific type of crime (e.g., child prostitution, child sex trafficking, child pornography) rather than the entire category in general (which is too broad).Papers should be divided into thirds, with one third of the paper addressing each of the required elements – the paper should not focus on one element moreso than the others.Remember that the paper must not only demonstrate your understanding of the topic, but your ability to do research. Sources must be recent, peer-reviewed journal articles – those that are academic in nature, although news articles are acceptable. Blogs, websites with no academic or review process, and wiki sources ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. Recent sources are those published within the past 10 years or so (or thereabouts). The course textbook may not be used as a source.
