Analyzing an advertisement, current or vintage, that’s appropriate for a college-level audience.

This week, you will use the drafting and planning work from the Week 3 Extended Draft Outline to write the final three- to four-page Rhetorical Analysis essay. Draw upon last week’s assignment, the lecture, and textbook reading to help you understand and meet the requirements for the Rhetorical Analysis. Other than finding your chosen ad online, no outside research is required for this essay. Although outside research is discouraged, you may incorporate research if it has a clear purpose in the essay. Any research used must be formatted in APA style through in-text citations and the end References page. It is best to check with your professor if you are considering using research.

At the end of your Rhetorical Analysis Essay, copy and paste the URL or website address for your ad (it will begin with http://) so that your readers also can view the ad.

Successful assignments will:

  • be focused on analyzing an advertisement, current or vintage, that’s appropriate for a college-level audience;
  • include a thesis statement at the end of the introduction that conveys the overall effectiveness of the chosen ad;
  • include details to establish the visual description and context of the ad;
  • identify the various ways rhetorical appeals are used;
  • be typed and submitted as a Microsoft Word 2010 document (.docx), with 12-point font and APA formatting for margins, title page, running heads, and page numbers (Please be sure to review the tutorial on formatting an APA paper and title page.);
  • be three to four double-spaced pages, not including the title page;

Discuss what staff certifications and facility licenses will be required in order to operate the facility.

As a continuation of our course project due in Unit VIII (a proposal for an industrial and hazardous waste treatment facility), complete the next two sections (management considerations and physical treatment) of your proposal by following the instructions carefully, and then submit your continued draft of your proposal into Blackboard for grading.

Instructions:
1. Closely read the Required Reading assignment from Bahadori (2014) and the Unit Lesson within the Study Guide.
2. Open your proposal draft from Unit I and make any improvements to your draft using your professor’s feedback from the Unit I project assignment.
3. Open the Unit II Study Guide, read the Unit II Lesson, and then work with the embedded interactive model to decide what physical treatment equipment to include in your treatment process design.
4. Continue from your Unit I Project and make your second level one heading titled “Management Considerations.” Discuss the following variables as part of the scenario. Be sure to mention your intentions to provide physical treatment, chemical treatment, biological treatment, general sewage treatment techniques, and solid waste treatment using the financial resources identified below. Also, consider how you would organize, manage, and lead staff. Discuss what staff certifications and facility licenses will be required in order to operate the facility. 5. Continue from your Unit I Project and make your third level one heading titled “Physical Treatment.” Discuss what physical treatment equipment you are proposing for your treatment process. Be sure and describe why you selected the equipment and what final effluent concentrations you anticipate will be lowered with the equipment. You are required to describe the equipment selection in at least one page.

Described as a “necessary evil.” Thomas Jefferson—among other “Founding Fathers”—hoped that slavery would eventually fade away.

History
Essay 2
With their many achievements in establishing a new nation, America’s founding generation had limited answers for the problem of slavery, which they sometimes described as a “necessary evil.” Thomas Jefferson—among other “Founding Fathers”—hoped that slavery would eventually fade away. How realistic was this desire? If powerful men claimed that they wished slavery would someday vanish, then why did slavery actually become more entrenched during the early American republic? In 5 to 6 pages (double-spaced), identify key developments that led to slavery’s expansion. You may reference lecture or readings from Major Problems, but most of your essay should draw upon The Half Has Never Been Told.

CONFESSING TO BREAKING THE LAW.

TOPIC: CONFESSING TO BREAKING THE LAW
Throughout this course, you have been exploring the ways in which social psychological principles can be applied to various careers. This week, you will create a literature review of articles that cover some of the main topics of applied social psychology. You should frame your review as if you were explaining the purpose of the field to someone who does not know about social psychology. To do this, you will write a literature review that contains five articles, each of which focuses on a different theory. Two of the five articles can be from the literature review for your case study that you wrote last week; however, they each must cover different theories. The other three articles should pertain to different theories that have been discussed throughout the course or that will be discussed in Week Six.

Remember, even though these articles are not necessarily related, the literature review must still have a thesis statement (e.g., Applied social psychology is a field that is important because it is relevant to…) and a conclusion that reinforces your claim. Since you are allowed to use your review of two articles from your previous literature review, please ensure you make any necessary modifications to your analysis so that they match the thesis statement and conclusion of this literature review.

All of the articles that you use must be recent (published within the past 10 years). You should also cite other material (e.g., seminal works about the theories) as appropriate to help you contextualize and explain the articles that you are discussing. Format your paper according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center

As a side note: you may be able to draw from articles that you have used in this literature review when completing the Integrative Literature Review for PSY699, the capstone course.
Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.

Described above in the documentation and formatting section.

A sample project template is available for download in Doc Sharing. The sample project compares the ratio performance of Tootsie Roll and Hershey using the 2012 financial statements of Tootsie Roll and Hershey provided at their websites.

Description

This course contains a Course Project where you will be required to submit one draft of the project at the end of Week 5 and the final completed project at the end of Week 7. Using the financial statements for Kohl’s Corporation and J.C. Penney Corporation, respectively, you will calculate and compare the financial ratios listed further down this document for the fiscal year ending 2010 and prepare your comments about two companies’ performance based on your ratio calculations. The entire project will be graded by the instructor at the end of the final submission in Week 7 and one grade will be assigned for the entire project.

Overall Requirements

For the Final Submission
Your final Excel workbook submission should contain the following. You cannot use any software but Excel to complete this project.
1.  A completed worksheet title page tab, which is really a cover sheet with your name, the course, the date, your instructor’s name, and the title for the project
2.  A completed worksheet profiles tab, which contains a one-paragraph description regarding each company with information about their histories, what products they sell, where they are located, and so on
3.  All 16 ratios for each company with the supporting calculations and commentary on your worksheet ratio tab. Supporting calculations must be shown either as formulas or as text typed into different cells. The ratios are listed further down this document. Your comments for each ratio should include more than just a definition of the ratio. You should focus on interpreting each ratio number for each company and support your comments with the numbers found in the ratios.
4.  The Summary and Conclusions worksheet tab, which is an overall comparison of how each company compares in terms of the major category of ratios described in Chapter 13 of your textbook. A nice way to conclude is to state which company you think is the better investment and why.
5.  The Bibliography worksheet tab must contain at least your textbook as a reference. Any other information you use to profile the companies should also be cited as a reference.
Required Ratios for Final Project Submission
1.  Earnings per Share of Common Stock
Current Ratio
Gross Profit Margin
Rate of Return on Sales (Net Profit Margin)
Inventory Turnover
Days’ Inventory Outstanding (DIO)
7.  Accounts Receivable Turnover
8.  Days’ Sales Outstanding (DSO)
Asset Turnover
Rate of Return on Total Assets (ROA)

Rate of Return on Common Stockholders’ Equity (ROE)
Free Cash Flow
Price/Earnings Ratio (Multiple) (For the purpose of this ratio, for both Kohl’s and J.C. Penney, use the market price per share on January 31, 2011.)
The Excel files uploaded in the Dropboxes should not include any unnecessary numbers or information (such as previous years’ ratios, ratios that were not specifically asked for in the project, etc.).
Please upload your final submission to the Week 7 Dropbox by Sunday at the end of Week 7.
For the Draft
Create an Excel spreadsheet or use the project template to show your computations for the first 10 ratios listed above. The more you can complete regarding the other requirements, the closer you will be to completion when Week 7 arrives. Supporting calculations must be shown either as formulas or as text typed into different cells. If you plan on creating your own spreadsheet, please follow the format provided in the Tootsie Roll and Hershey template file.
Please upload your draft submission to the Week 5 Dropbox by Sunday at the end of Week 5.
Other Helpful Information
If you feel uncomfortable with Excel, you can find many helpful references on Excel by performing a Google search.
Chapter 13 contains ratio calculations and comparison comments related to Apple and Dell so you will likely find this information helpful.
BigCharts.com provides historical stock quotes.
Either APA or MLA style can be used to complete the references on your Bibliography tab. There is a tutorial for APA and MLA style within the Syllabus.

Grade Information

The entire project will be graded by the instructor at the end of the final submission in Week 7, and one grade will be assigned for the entire project. The project will count for 18% of your overall course grade.
Category Points % Description
Documentationand Formatting 9 5% The report will be submitted in the form of an Excel Workbook, with each page (worksheet) of the workbook named appropriately. Please do not use any other software (such as MS Works or Lotus) to complete the project. A quality report will include a title worksheet tab, a worksheet tab for the profile of the two companies, a worksheet tab for the ratio calculations and comments, a worksheet tab for the summary and conclusion, proper citations if applicable, and a Bibliography worksheet tab for the references.

Explain how the e-business’s online service contributes to e-commerce as a part of societ.

At the first meeting of the digital learning e-marketing initiative team (D-LIT), individual members are asked to develop a presentation with notes that graphically conveys the shared marketing fundamentals between the traditional marketing approach and the e-marketing applications.

Prepare a PowerPoint presentation of 6–8 slides with 200–250 words of speaker notes per slide that cover the following:

  • What are the shared marketing fundamentals between the traditional marketing approach and e-marketing applications from the 3 primary strategic marketing dimensions?
  • Explain how the e-business’s online service fits within the e-marketing mix.
  • Explain how the e-business’s online service constitutes a profitable e-business model.
  • Explain how the e-business’s online service contributes to e-commerce as a part of societ

Examine the different parts of learning centers in a way the parents will understand.

This letter should address the following:

 PARENT LETTER REQUIREMENTS:

This letter should address the following:

1) what a learning center is (Physically…what can it look like?  What is in it?)

2) the kinds of learning centers that can be in the classroom (you can target a specific grade level if you want)

3) how various subjects are integrated in relevant, meaningful ways (what are they?)

4) how this learning transfers into real life situations

5) how autonomy, openness, problem-solving, and integrity play a part of LCA’s

6) what role the teacher plays in LCA’s

7) what research has influenced your decisions to have learning centers as a part of your day (at least 2-3 theorists should support your thoughts)

8) how LCA’s, if planned correctly, encourage thinking on all levels (Blooms) [careful not to give too much information here]

9) the importance of movement for young children

10) how you plan using PreK Guidelines, TEKS, DAP

11) how you use the assessed needs to help plan for centers that will provide optimal learning on all levels, thus creating successes for every student, challenging all, and incorporating all learning styles

12) how you will encourage parents to come to your room and experience the joy of learning in a risk free environment that allows children to be children and learn cooperatively while interacting with all their senses

13) possibly a list of items you know you will need to use in learning centers that parents may begin sending to school (eg. scarves, old keys, beanbags, chairs, ties, dress-up clothes)

*Remember, parents are the best place to get ‘stuff’ for your room!

This letter should be

  • addressed to Parents/Guardians,
  • greeting [not the first letter you are sending to parent…one you will send 2 – 3 weeks into school]
  • free from grammar or spelling errors
  • on ‘fancy’ paper — add clip art/pictures, border, background
  • 1.5 – 2 pages (may be longer depending on the border or clip art you use)
  • 12 point Arial font, single spaced
  • bold the theorists’ names
  • something you could send home to parents 2- 3 weeks into school without making ANY changes (could be sent home ‘AS IS’)
  • DO NOT introduce yourself in this letter…you will already know them
  • begin with an introduction paragraph explaining what centers are, (physically) paint parents a picture with your words (remember we can even put centers in a box)
  • MUST have 3 paragraphs [beginning – middle – end] ——— may have more

Write this letter with the thought in mind that parents have never seen a classroom that uses learning centers and they do not understand the importance of play and interaction with peers in a learning environment.  Be careful not to use language or terms that only teachers will understand. If you need to,  briefly explain terms. Remain positive. Also remember that parents won’t know who the theorist are, so a (very) brief description could be beneficial to them.

Think back to your first thoughts about learning centers: What has helped you understand their importance to help children truly understand? Maybe that will help your parents/readers.

Other Things to REMEMBER

  • easily read and understood by anyone who is NOT an early childhood major (make sure the reader knows what a learning center is, has in it, and what students do there)
  • border, picture, clip art, or background
  • support from at least 3 theorists (BOLD their names)—tell who they are and something about them— should make a smooth and reasonable connection throughout the paper. Make sure theorists support your thoughts…they should NOT be the bulk of the paper (TMI – too much information) or in one clump in the paper but spread throughout.
  • use formal word choices, not conversational language (words like “stuff, “a lot” are not formal)
Final thoughts to consider:
When the grader is finish reading your letter, there should be no doubt you understand Learning Center Activities.  You too, will be thinking on ALL levels of Blooms Taxonomy.
Knowledge: Do you really know what a learning center is and the kinds there are?
Comprehension: Do you have an understanding that is solid enough to explain to someone else?
Application: Can you make use of the knowledge of learning centers and their purposes by writing this letter?
Analysis: Did you examine the different parts of learning centers in a way the parents will understand?
Synthesis: Were you able to develop and compose a letter using all the knowledge of learning center activities you have learned this semester?
Evaluation: Were you able to justify the use of learning centers in your classroom as ONE of the teaching tools you will use to support their child’s growth and development, striving to educate the WHOLE child?
