Identify any errors you find and state what is necessary to correct the error.

Random Sentences (Programming Challenge)

Create an application that produces random sentences as output. Create five arrays of strings, one each for nouns, adjectives, verbs, prepositions, and articles. Each array should hold several words of that part of speech. For example, the strArticles array could hold the strings “the” and “a”; the strNouns array could hold “Martian”, “baby”, “skunk”, “computer”, and “mosquito”; the strPrepositions array could hold “around”, “through”, “under”, “over”, and “by”; and so on.

The application should generate sentences by randomly choosing eight words (randomly generating eight array indices) from these arrays, always constructing sentences by using the parts of speech in the following order: article, adjective, noun, verb, preposition, article, adjective, noun. For example, a sentence might be “The shiny computer flew over a huge mosquito.” In this example, “The” and “a” were randomly chosen from the articles array, “shiny” and “huge” from the adjectives array, “computer” and “mosquito” from the nouns array, “flew” from the verbs array, and “over” from the prepositions array. Be careful to produce sentences that have the proper spacing, uppercase and lowercase letters, and a period at the end.

Design your form with buttons to display the next sentence, to clear all sentences currently displayed, and to close the application. Display your sentences, one per line, in a list box. Allow enough room to display at least 10 sentences. Figure 8-48 shows an example of the form using a list box. The figure shows the form with three

sentences generated.

  1. Identify any errors you find and state what is necessary to correct the error.
  2. What recommendations would you provide to the programmer on coding practices should have been used?
  3. What suggestions would you make to improve the program?

Identifying, and assessing the particular constraints of your chosen sites, (and their surroundings), and developing an understanding of the strategic planning that has had to be implemented on your projects.

Every construction project is different, and has its own unique set of constraints, which combine to influence and drive the strategic plan for that particular site. The strategic plan aims to manage the site as effectively and efficiently as possible by coordinating a range of variables including the construction methodology employed, the materials used, the allocation of resources, time management strategies, the construction programme, and quality management processes.

Site constraints may result from a range of factors such as the geology and history of the site, specific town planning requirements, physical barriers on or surrounding the site, new or existing services and infrastructure, or even just a lack of proper planning of the works. They may have existed prior to the commencement of construction (and therefore have been taken into account during the tender process), or they may have become evident as a result of undertaking the on-site construction activities.

But these constraints can and do have a decided influence on the way in which project management techniques are selected and applied to a particular project, and the management of constraints becomes appreciably more complicated when it is applied to multiple construction projects.

Project Requirements

Your assessment task requires you to prepare a comprehensive and professional management report based on your engagement with an active multiple construction site (or sites) which clearly demonstrates your understanding of critical project management techniques and processes.

To help facilitate your learning for this task, you will need to arrange access to a suitable site (see subject notes explaining what constitutes a multiple site), or two separate sites (ideally operated by the same builder), for the purposes of identifying, and assessing the particular constraints of your chosen sites, (and their surroundings), and developing an understanding of the strategic planning that has had to be implemented on your projects.

The site will preferably involve a commercial or industrial project, but alternatively can be a multi-unit residential construction site. An individual dwelling or dual occupancy site is not suitable for this task.

You are required to monitor and inspect your sites progressively for at least four weeks prior to submitting your final report, but the frequency of your visits will be determined by the nature of the activities taking place on the sites at the time, and your ability to gain regular access to the site. The primary objective is for you to observe as much as possible of the construction progress during this period. It is therefore strongly recommended that you find sites which are close to your home or work, to give you the maximum number of opportunities to observe the site operations, and interact with the site management teams.

Commencing in Week 1 of the Trimester, students should locate their project sites, make contact with the builder, and establish a contact person who is involved directly with the project in order to;

  • Obtain permission to observe (and photograph) the site,
  • Ask questions about the known constraints applicable to the project,
  • Find out how these constraints have influenced the strategic planning for the
project including resource allocation, time management techniques, construction programming, construction methodology, material selections, and quality management processes, and
  • Discuss how the site management team has dealt with these issues.
As part of your strategic site evaluation, you should firstly establish the background to the project such as the project cost, overall build time, names and backgrounds of the builders, and current status of the project. You will also need to find out how the construction team has planned for and dealt with their particular constraints, with a strong emphasis on how the multiple project aspect of the site (or sites) has influenced their thinking. This research should encompass the project management techniques the site has employed, the types and complexity of project scheduling, the role of quality management, and the use of time management techniques. You should also research other options which may have been available to the site management team.

Explain what a bathymetric map is. In your explanation, describe how it differs from a topographic map.

Answer the following questions using your survival skills and the internet.

  1. Explain what a bathymetric map is. In your explanation, describe how it differs from a topographic map.
  2. What’s the average depth of the oceans?
  3. Where is the deepest spot in the ocean? How deep is it?
  4. What is the name of the deepest spot in the ocean?
  5. There are a lot of features in the bottom of the sea. Navigate to http://www.purposegames.com/game/ocean-basin-quiz and start the Ocean Basin activity. Take a screenshot of your results.

Bathymetric Maps

Bathymetry is the measurements of water depths. One way to visualize the seafloor is by using a contour map. Contours are lines drawn connecting points of equal depth. It’s like “connect the dots” but with a twist. The lines are called isobaths, a line on a map that connects all points having the same depth below sea-level. Watch the first 6 minutes of this video, How to Draw Contours http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6FbV0LiA_k. The twist is that the depths for the isobaths may not be marked on the map; you’ll have to make an educated guess.

  1. Looks like the boat captain didn’t finish drawing this bathymetric map. He managed to draw the 500-foot isobar. Draw the 485, 490, 495, 505, and 510 feet isobars.

Figure 1. Bathymetric map with the 500-ft contour line.

  2. This map contains a bunch of soundings. Complete this contour map using a contour interval of 10 feet starting at 80ft, 90ft, … to 130 ft. For now, ignore the line connecting points A and B.

Figure 2. Soundings map with points A and B.

  3. Once you have drawn all the isobars, take the edge of a sheet of paper, and line it up with the gray dotted line. Mark the letters A and B on your paper. For every spot an isobar touches your paper, make a tick mark and write down the depth.

How to Submit Your Task

Answer the four questions on a word processing document. Once you have finished the assigned task, submit including a screen shot of your Ocean Basin activity, and Figure 1, Figure 2, and Figure 4.

Illustrates the patch of network devices that data packets must travel to get from server to remote user’s device and back to server.

The security consulting firm that you work for has been awarded a contract to implement a new IT Security Infrastructure to secure the Information Technology data assets of a local government agency.  This agency has many remote workers that are in the field and need to connect back to the agency’s system servers. The remote workers use a wireless network infrastructure to connect their electronic pads to servers located within the local government’s facility. The remote workers have needs to access property records, cite zoning violations electronically, and validate building permits. The public demand to expand IT services has grown faster than its ability to provide an adequately secured infrastructure. In fact, this government entity was previously featured on the news for having minimal security controls and methods for accessing property tax information of citizens. The inadequate security allowed many construction trade businesses to illegally access property records and zoning violations. Your role in this project is to enhance and optimize the security mechanisms for accessing these systems.

Write a four to five (4-5) page paper in which you:

1. Create an information flow diagram, using Visio or Dia, which:

a. Illustrates how remote users will securely connect to the government agency’s network.

b. Illustrates the patch of network devices that data packets must travel to get from server to remote user’s device and back to

         server.

Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.

2. Provide an equipment list of network security devices that would be needed to ensure the integrity and sensitivity of private information. In this list:

a. Propose at least two (2) vendor brands per each device and the associate costs required to procure these items.

b. Identify the functionality each device serves and the expected benefits the government agency should experience upon the successful installation of this equipment.

3. Develop a maintenance plan that should be recommended to the government agency to ensure having the latest security measures

available within the network in which you:

a. Describe the risks associated with not fulfilling the activities outlined within your maintenance plan.

b. Indicate specific activities, personnel / resources required, and frequency of execution.

4. Recommend at least four (4) physical security measures that could be developed to ensure the electronic perimeter of electronic assets.

5. Recommend at least two (2) physical security vendors that could achieve the four (4) security measures you identified. Justify your recommendations with your response.

6. Evaluate and consider activities that the Human Resources Department could perform in order to complement and instill security from within the organization. Provide a rationale with your response.

7. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
  • Include charts or diagrams created in Visio or one of its equivalents such as Dia. The completed diagrams / charts must be imported into the Word document before the paper is submitted.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Describe and apply the 14 areas of common practice in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Essential Body of Knowledge.
  • Describe best practices in cybersecurity.
  • Describe system, application, network, and telecommunications security policies and response.
  • Evaluate the ethical concerns inherent in cybersecurity and how these concerns affect organizational policies.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in cybersecurity.
  • Write clearly and concisely about topics associated with cybersecurity using proper writing mechanics and technical style conventions.

Describe this new ecosystem and the new interactions that will most likely exist.

In this assignment, you will create a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation that exhibits the different organisms in your current biome.

Include the following in your presentation:

  • Describe Your Own Environment

Consider the natural environment or biome found in the geographic area where you currently live. For example, if you live in the Midwest, the natural biome for this area is the grassland. If you live in Alaska you are likely to live in either the tundra or the boreal forest. Describe the main features of the biome found in your geographic area. Include features such as the environment (moisture, temperature) and any topographic features that would influence the climate (mountains, large bodies of water, etc.).

  • Identify Ten Organisms

Make a list identifying at least ten organisms—at least five plants and five animals—that live in your biome, and describe how these organisms interact with one another. For example, is the relationship competitive or symbiotic?

  • Describe Each Organism and its Environmental Needs

In the speaker notes section in your presentation, briefly describe these ten organisms and the type of conditions—that is, moisture, warm temperatures, or a type of plant—they need in order to survive. Be sure to include the interactions between these organisms and the resources they need to survive. You may wish to use various tools available in Microsoft PowerPoint to visually depict these relationships.

  • Hypothesis of a New Environment

Consider a situation where the temperature of the climate was to increase by an average of ten degrees Celsius. Address the following:

    • How would these organisms survive if the temperature warmed up this much?
    • Would they stay or move to a more suitable environment?
    • Would a new species move in?
    • How would migratory species be impacted?
    • What would happen to your biome?

Now, consider if your biome changes with the temperature shift. Address the following:

    • What types of plants and animals do you think would live there?
    • What will happen to the rarer species? Will they cease to exist?
    • Identify five plants and five animals that you feel would inhabit this warmer area.
  • Additional Topics to Include
  • Describe this new ecosystem and the new interactions that will most likely exist.
    • How would environmental management practices change in your area?
    • Would this drastic shift in temperature impact culture and society in your area?
    • Would you still choose to live in this area after a drastic shift in temperature? Give reasons to support your answer.

Use pictures from the Internet to represent your chosen species, and give credit to these Web sites. Support your statements with 3–5 credible sources. Use the last slide of your presentation as a reference slide.

Develop a 10–15-slide presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M3_A2.ppt.

Businesspeople often have difficulty reaching agreement on the terms of contracts, proposals, and anything that involves bargaining. They have even more difficulty when the negotiators are from different cultures.

Discuss the causes and implications of the following common mistakes made by North Americans in their negotiations with international business partners:

Assuming that a final agreement is set in stone.

Lacking patience and insisting that matters progress more quickly than the pace preferred by the locals.

Thinking that an interpreter is always completely accurate.

Believing that individuals who speak English understand every nuance of your meaning

Ignoring or misunderstanding the significance of rank.

Discuss this view in writing in the light of what you read in this chapter and outside sources. Your well-written paper must adhere to the following parameters:

3 pages in length, not including the title and reference pages.

2-3 references cited in the assignment. Remember, you must support your thinking/opinions and prior knowledge with references; all facts must be supported; in-text references used throughout the assignment
