Describe Croce’ new product development process.

This week’s content has discussed cross-functional product development and process selection. You have read about how new product development is influenced by the design process and the design tools selected. Two processes for product development were presented: the sequential process and the concurrent process. Each method has advantages and disadvantages that managers need to consider when developing a new product. Recall that operations is responsible for supplying the product or service of the organization and, in order to most efficiently and effectively supply the product, operations managers need to understand the product development options.

Post by Wednesday December 9, 2015 a 250-350 word statement that addresses the following questions about the product development process options:

What steps in the sequential product development process are similar to the concurrent product development process? What steps are different?

Which product development process is more efficient and effective for developing products and services that are well aligned with market expectations and why?

There was a lot to learn from week one for Dell and for Digby. It was a rough week for team Digby. But in week two we turned things around instead of being in the negative we actually were in the positive with our net income. Our sales earning was $146,950 which was not bad for week two for Digby and we did not have to get an emergency loan. For Daze and Dell we stocked out and for Dell this was the second week that we stocked out. This is never a good thing for a company. It doesn’t show consistency to their customers I have to work on not stocking out. Even though we were able to stay in the positive side of the finances for week two there are still loads of are that team Digby can work on to make it a successful company. So I will outline what I did in each department and how well it worked for team Dell we actually were able to rank #1 for the Low end production.

For Dell which is the low end production for Digby I made some changes in week 2. In the R& D page I left this alone the reason for this was because this was the second most important aspect for our customers. It ranked number two with a 24% of what our customer are looking for in a product. The ideal age is 7.0 and if I would have made any changes in the R& D page I would have lowered the age of the product. This actually worked well for me it brought my product age up to 4.04. This means that next year it will be even higher. As for Dell there were no new products created because that will not be feasible for my customers.

In the Marketing department I left he price alone at $20.50 which compare to my competitors it was low. But that was ok with me for Dell product because the most important expectation for my customers is the Price. The reason I left the pricing alone was to generate customers to come and buy the product. The price range is from $14 to $24 it ranked number one with a 53% margin of what the customers want. I actually lowered the budgeting for Promotion to $700 and the sales Budget to $500 even with lowering the promotional budget to $700 the customer awareness was 50%. For customer awareness it wasn’t too bad it could have been better but 50% was not a bad at all. For the sale force I think that I did ok for Dell for week two my forecast strategy was 2840 and I could have worked on this better for Dell.

For Dell Production I thought I did well for production but apparently I stocked out again. For week 2 my contribution margin was 23% which was low. I also did not utilize my second shift like I should have. I purchased 500 capacity as well as 5.0 in automation rating. I did not utilize my production for each line as well as not establishing a good workforce. I thought by increasing the production as well as the capacity and the automation it would have been suffice. But as I seen again in week two running out of production again showed me that I have to be able to utilize both shifts. I will make those changes for week three.

When it came to our finances Digby did a whole lot better than week one. In week one team Digby was in the negative for the net income and this was because we had to take out an emergency loan. For week two our focus was to make sure that we did not take out an emergency loan. As well as making sure that the company was actually in the positive when it came to our net income we ended with $2,986. We actually did issue long term debt because this was the reason for week one emergency loan. So issuing long term debt actually helped Digby in not getting an emergency loan at all. For Dell our sales were $35,455 and our net margin was $2,338. There are still loads of areas for us to work on as a company. Digby did better in week two than in week one. We still have some areas that we need to work on for week three. For Dell I have to work on making sure that there is no stock out. As well as making sure that as a company that our overall finances are in order. We need to learn from week one and week two in-order to make week three successful for team Digby.

Scenario #4:
Kris is the intern in charge of your company (or school’s) social media account. Their job is to “be the brand” on social media and monitor the official facebook page. When faced with a negative public comment on the facebook page, Kris is supposed to reply with a link to the official complaint form so the negative comment can be escalated to the proper department who can best deal with the complaint and take action. Kris has recently broken up with their longterm partner and has been noticeably distracted at work. You receive a phone call from an irate customer that instead of a link to the comment and complaint form, Kris has posted a link to a pornographic website.
Your company typically hires interns into full time positions, and your boss has requested a policy brief to determine if this intern can be offered a full time position. Your boss has also asked for guidance on if the intern can receive a letter of reference from the company.
Suddenly, this employee’s twitter account begins posting content quite often. These tweets contain links to spam sites such as weight loss drugs or buying essays. When confronted about this sudden flood of spam, your employee admits they appear to have been hacked. Their password has been changed and they can’t regain control over their company account. When asked how this happened, this employee admits they did not add two factor authentication despite it being corporate policy to do so.
Your boss has asked for a policy brief about what to do in regards to this employee’s hacked account, and whether active social media participation should continue to be a factor in yearly progress reports or not.
12. Include the grading rubric as an appendix to your document.

It should be in email format and should address the points as is listed below. I have short explanations in red.
Start with a short introduction about the research that you conducted on the company and say that you will be addressing the contents of the two annual reports to determine whether the company is worth purchasing.

Write a Word document containing a copy of your email to your supervisor that addresses the following items.

What is the tone of each report (its appearance, theme, look)? What feelings and impressions do you get from looking at the report?
Here you look at the two reports and determine how they looked different from each other. It could be that they changed the entire layout to make it look more presentable, or that they have new sections of interest to investors etc. Explain why you like one report better than teh other. or why you felt that there was not much change in both the reports

Review the management letters and other front matter found in the beginning of the reports. What stands out? Can you draw any initial conclusions about the state of the business? What do the leaders have to say about their company?
Here you need to look at the two reports and determine whether the tone of the chairman’s note and other notes by key leaders are positive in terms of how they performed, what were the key achievements, and find what was different from one report to the other.

What else is contained in the annual reports, and what is the significance of it?
List the key elements of the reports and say why they are important. For example the VW reports have extremely clear view of the financial charts that clearly match the balance sheets. This is an indication that the company want to give a better visual feel to their report as investors may not want to take a look at the entire balance sheet.

Compare and contrast the two consolidated statements of income for the company. Consider the yearly operating performance and environmental circumstances (economy, market, trends, etc) that are readily apparent to you as an observer, and/or those mentioned specifically by the management of the organization. – You would have done this comparison in the class and will have a clear understanding of the same. This will help you to answer the next question.

What changes do you notice in tone and content from year to year?
Refer to section above to address this question. For example the VW reports on the capture of market saw a decline from one year to the next. This needs to have a reason. It could have been that another car manufacturing company launched its operations in that region…

What is your recommendation on if this company should be explored further for potential purchase by your organization? Include a rationale for your recommendation.
Based on the analysis, you should be able to say whether you recommend to purchase or not to purchase and why….

The reason should be a solid one.. for example, the decline of foreign manufactured cars in the global market has seen a decline as the countries where there were high sales have begun to manufacture similar cars at cheaper rates, or whatever you deem fit based on your analysis. or if you want to purchase, then state why….

Discuss problems that might arise on our floor and through evidence based practice we try to find interventions or better ways to treat such problems.
Talk about 3 of the Councils you are on and discuss them in terms of what they contribute to:
• Communication & Collaboration – across disciplines as well as nursing
• A Culture of Patient Safety
• Quality Nursing Care
• Process of Decision-Making
At my job, I sit on a Unit Based Practice Council. What we do is discuss problems that might arise on our floor and through evidence based practice we try to find interventions or better ways to treat such problems. Before every meeting, we also send out an e-mail to the entire unit (Spinal Cord Injury Unit) and ask the staff if they have any topics that they would like to cover in our meetings. The entire unit is welcome to join us in our meetings. After each meeting, the meeting minutes are e-mailed out to the staff. Things we cover include infection control, safety, better ways of communication, and so forth. A recent project we have been working on is whether or not night shift nurses should give half of the baths and/or showers on night shift. The night shift RN’s are saying that they do not have time as all of their work has to be done at the beginning of shift and at the end and between Midnight and 4 am the patient’s need to sleep. Dayshift RN’s feel this is possible and are requesting that (if time permits and patients agree to it) patient’s be bathed between the hours of 12-4am. This has been a work in progress for us.
Another committee I sit on is the HUSH committee. “help us support healing”. We really don’t have very many meetings for this and it is really about keeping the noise down and lights dim during evening hours so that patient can get rest and heal. Each unit has a HUSH representitvie and my job is to dim lights, keep HUSH signs posted everywhere, remind staff to speak quietly (not to yell down the hall at other staff memebers, keep cell phones on vibrate, IV alaris pump alarms on a quieter setting, etc.) For our patient’s that are unable to sleep and they want to watch t.v. we give them headphones so as not to disturb their neighbors.
I am the unit rep for the National Nurses United (NNU), our union. We have meetings the first Wednesday of every month and it is my job to ask my fellow co-workers if they have any issues they want me to address at my meetings. I take those issues with me and whatever is discussed at the meetings or information I receive I post it for all to see on my unit on our union peg board that I created in our breakroom.
My professor wants these things addressed:
• Communication & Collaboration – across disciplines as well as nursing
• A Culture of Patient Safety
• Quality Nursing Care
• Process of Decision-Making
How do these councils help in these ways. I do not have time to answer these questions or do this assignment as I am currently working 68 hour work weeks.
