Financial Analysis and Research of Mutual Fund 48

Organize the research for your paper around the research question(s)/hypotheses listed below in the appendices. Review the APA manual and find peer-reviewed, empirical research articles and the mutual fund websites for examples of how to report the results for your mutual fund. Also ANSWER within the paper:
The SRI/BRI mutual fund reviewed is Discuss the practices employed in both types of screening process that the mutual fund has undertaken and compare the investment returns of the mutual fund to the correspondingly sized secular index funds. What are the 5-year (January 1, 2011- December 31, 2015) rates of return after expenses of your SRI or BRI fund, and did it earn as much as or more than the correspondingly sized secular index funds (e.g., S&P 500 Index {Fidelity Spartan 500 Index Fund Class Inv (FUSEX? Collect, present, analyze, and critically evaluate the financial data as it relates to an SRI/BRI FUND you have not written about in any past course during your academic career.
Your goal is to answer the following three questions:
1. Is the five-year rates of return, after expenses, from 2011 through 2015, after expenses, of screened SRI or BRI fund earn as much as or more than the correspondingly sized, unscreened, after expenses, FUSEX?
2. Are the 5-year rates of return of the SRI or BRI funds within 1% of the total returns of all correspondingly sized secular index funds (FUSEX), which postulates that investors would be willing to take a loss of at least 1% to make it worthwhile to invest with their conscience?
3. Does your fund have more than or less than 30 stocks within its portfolio, thus reflecting its level of diversification? How many stocks are invested in.
4. How many different screens does your mutual fund include, and what are they? (This should be answered in the Social Screening Research section of your paper). Categorize each of the screens as to whether they represent an example of a positive or negative screen, and discuss the implications of the choice of screening method on fund performance.
Financial Screening Research
Review the practices employed in the mutual funds screening process and compare its investment returns to the benchmarks. Collect, present, analyze, and critically evaluate financial data as it relates to an SRI/BRI FUND that you have not written about in any past course during your academic career. Consult the fund companys prospectus and its 10k. State the Funds Investment Objective(s), Minimum Initial Investment, Minimum Subsequent Investment, Fees, Commission/Sales Charge, Redemption Fee, Management Fees, 12 b-1 Fee, Expense Ratio, Years of Manager in Position and experience, and if the fund has a professional investment management team. Include the Portfolio Turnover Rate from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2015, Investment Policies and Risks (e.g., market, business, financial, and currency risk), any Unusual Problems/Risks (e.g., legal, ethical, management), services provided by the fund, share classes and types, asset allocation by sector, the funds toll-free telephone number, and how you obtained a copy of the funds prospectus.
Social Screening Research
Review the practices employed in the mutual funds screening process and answer how many different screens does your mutual fund include, and what are they? Categorize each of the screens as to whether they represent an example of a positive or negative screen, and discuss the implications of the choice of screening method on fund performance. What problem does your fund solve for? What is the purpose for your fund? How does your fund answer these issues?
Analysis & Results
[Data analyses Report results with discussion (interpretation, speculation, etc.)]:
Give appropriate desrptive information.
Present the results in a logical fashion, answering the research questions/hypotheses as stated and appropriate to the type of data collected. Include performance over 5 years from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2015, Return on Equity (ROE), and BETA. To do so, GO to http://finance.yahoo.com/q?sFUSEX, CHARTS Interactive, and Comparison tab. Enter your fund, go to custom date range symbol and punch in dates of January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2015, and add the DOW or Nasdaq depending on the size of your fund.
Identify any assumptions of statistical tests and address any violation of those assumptions.
Make decisions based on the results of the statistical analysis. For example, are the results statistically significant? Include relevant test statistic and p values.
See the APA manual regarding how to present results in text, tables, and figures.
Present sufficient information so the reader can make an independent judgment regarding interpretation.
Evaluation of Findings
[This section is used to report briefly what your findings mean. Interpret results in light of the theories (i.e. Modern Portfolio Theory versus Stakeholder Theory, etc). Describe whether the results obtained were expected given the literature and provide potential explanations for unexpected or conflicting results. Take care to avoid drawing conclusions beyond what can be interpreted directly from the study results.]
DELETE THE FOLLOWING (?): Implications, Recommendations, and Conclusions
[Begin the discussion with a brief review of the problem statement, purpose, method, limitations, and ethical dimensions, and conclude the introduction with a brief overview of the fund.]
Implications
[Discuss each research question and (when appropriate) hypothesis individually, and draw logical conclusions. Note: support all conclusions with the research findings and avoid drawing conclusions that are beyond the scope of your results. Discuss how any potential limitations may have affected the interpretation of the results.]
Recommendations
[Present all recommendations for practical applications. Note: support all recommendations with the research findings and a minimum of two peer-reviewed articles. Present recommendations for future research.]

The Sociological Imagination Applied

The task: In this section of the course we have studied the meaning and application of a “sociological imagination”. In 4-5 double-spaced pages, demonstrate your sociologicalimagination as applied to your own experiences in applying to college, living at college, and your expectation for work immediately after college (you should make a compelling demonstration of your sociological imagination).Note that your essay should draw on materials we have read and discussed regarding the social and political construction of education, work, and youth. Be sure to locate yourself over time within larger social structures, inequalities, constraints, and opportunities (e.g. by race, class, and gender as relevant). No additional research or citation beyond course materials is required, expected, or credited. (ALL ACCEPTABLE CITATIONS AT THE BOTTOM OF PAGE!!)Writing Guidelines: In general a short analytical essay should have at most one or two key points that organize and sustain the argument. The paper should NOT be a simple summary orpresentation of another’s arguments (as in a book report), but should be organized by your own argument and analysis. The stronger your organization and thematic line, the stronger thepaper. There is no “correct” answer, it should be noted, to the posed question; it is the strength and clarity of your argument that is key. In general, you want to build a thematic frameworkfor your paper, organize your sub-arguments, and use source materials as illustrations using quotes, summaries, citations, and so forth. Please spell-check and proofread your paper asmany times as necessary. Rewriting is always necessary: go over your first draft, and reorganize and edit in order to make it as clear and forceful as possible.Paper Format: 4-5 double-spaced pages, one-inch margins, a standard font (Calibri, Arial or Times Roman), size 12. Use either footnotes or in-text citations and bibliography to indicatesources; in either case list author, title, and where possible page of a citation (the syllabus does not provide full citations, so your references may be limited to author and title (and no page if aweb site but provide the hyperlink)). Be very careful not to plagiarize—and this includes patchwriting, i.e. the use of multiple small snippets of text from multiple sources. Papers with bechecked for plagiarism.Analysis and Grading: Worth 20% of the grade. We will be looking for the degree to which you demonstrate: A thesis which organizes and provides originality for your essay[see guides on Blackboardand class discussion], Clarity and coverage of larger relationships across areas and inequalities of the world, A mastery of the relevant arguments and ideas in the readings, class lectures anddiscussion, and Logical precision, clarity, and creativity in the composition of your essay.Only citations acceptable:a.
