Case Study 1: Disaster Recovery

Due Week 2

Read the following articles, located below:

Note: Include these two (2) articles in your references section. These two (2) articles do not count towards the required number of references.

After reading these articles, consider the following:

  • The need for an organization to have a Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • How the attacks of September 11, 2001 affected Barclay’s Capital and Putman Investments.
  • Whether or not Barclay’s Capital and / or Putman Investments had a disaster recovery plan. If so, what were the parts of the plan that allowed each of them to continue operations? If not, what should a disaster recovery plan have included in order to continue operations?

Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which you:

  1. Identify the steps an organization should take to recover from a disaster and resume the business operations to normal mode.
  2. Suggest two (2) methods that organizations can use in order to mitigate the risk of data loss.
  3. Suggest two (2) methods that organizations can use in order to minimize the impact on personnel after a disaster.
  4. Examine both Barclay’s Capital’s and Putman Investments’ situations on September 11, 2001. Determine two (2) factors that contributed to a successful disaster recovery and two (2) factors that hindered a successful disaster recovery for each organization.
  5. Use at least three (3) quality references in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Examine the challenges of computer security, including different threats and types of attacks.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in Cryptography.
  • Write clearly and concisely about Cryptography using proper writing mechanics and tec

Discuss other potential problems that can occur from the improper use of standard costs.

Answer the following including in text APA citations and APA reference at the end.  No minimum words required as long as everything is answered

Part 1

Perform an Internet search using the phrase “reducing overhead costs”. Select and read a case study or article from the results of your search. (Make sure that you do not select an instructor’s lecture notes or a class assignment from the results of your search.) Summarize the case study or article, and relate the ideas of the article to what you have learned this week in this course.

Part 2

There are several potential problems that can occur from the improper use of standard costs. Labor quantity standards and efficiency variances assume that production is labor-paced. However, output in many companies is determined by the processing speed of machines. Also, too much emphasis on meeting the standards may overshadow other important objectives. Discuss other potential problems that can occur from the improper use of standard costs.

Identify the purpose for research in your article according to the nine purposes of research found in “A Typology of Research Purposes and Its Relationship to Mixed Methods.”

Analyzing and Evaluating Introductions and Purpose Statements

“…there is a link between understanding the purpose of one’s research and selecting the appropriate methods to investigate the questions that are derived from that purpose.”

—Newman, Ridenour, Newman, & DeMarco, Jr. (p. 169)

This week, you will continue to analyze the interconnected elements of a research study, now turning to the introduction and purpose statement.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review Chapters 5 and 6 in the course text, Research Design.
  • Review the book excerpt “A Typology of Research Purposes and Its Relationship to Mixed Methods.”
  • Review the annotated journal article “Developing Long-Term Physical Activity Participation: A Grounded Theory Study With African American Women,” which is annotated to reveal the how an introduction and purpose statement function.
  • Look to the Introduction Checklist and Purpose Statement Checklist for more guidance in analyzing and evaluating the introduction and purpose statement in your assigned article.
  • Identify the purpose for research in your article according to the nine purposes of research found in “A Typology of Research Purposes and Its Relationship to Mixed Methods.” It is possible that your assigned article may have more than one purpose.
  • Assess and evaluate the introductions and purpose statements. As part of the evaluation, be sure to describe how well the introduction achieves its purpose and, if applicable, include suggestions for improvement.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post a 3-paragraph analysis and evaluation of your assigned article’s introduction and purpose statement. Be sure to include which one (or more, if applicable) of the nine purposes for research from “A Typology of Research Purposes and Its Relationship to Mixed Methods” your assigned article represents. Then, in a final paragraph, ask any questions you may have about introductions and purpose statements.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the reading(s) and/or media segment(s) and use APA format.

How might the role of stakeholders in this environment differ from a more stable environment.

Stakeholders can have a powerful impact on organizational decision-making and strategic planning, making stakeholder engagement essential. As a leader and manager of an organization, you will not only be tasked with building relationships and engaging key stakeholders, but also identifying their role in the strategic planning process. In this Discussion, you examine stakeholder engagement and the role of stakeholders in strategic planning.

Post a response to one of the following three prompts:

  1. Suppose you are an organizational leader trying to develop collaborative support for new strategies. What is the most critical aspect for you to consider in terms of stakeholder roles (i.e., cultural competency, stakeholder engagement, etc.)?
  2. Suppose you are working with the stakeholders of an organization that has a dynamic and complex environment. How might the role of stakeholders in this environment differ from a more stable environment? How might this difference impact the structure of the strategic planning process?
  3. Suppose you are an organizational leader trying to build relationships and stakeholder support virtually. How might virtual stakeholder relationship building differ from on-ground relationship building? How might the role of a virtual stakeholder differ from the role of an on-ground stakeholder?

Identify the purpose for research in your article according to the nine purposes of research found in “A Typology of Research Purposes and Its Relationship to Mixed Methods.”

Please see attached info for this assignment. The attachment labeled “Article B” is the main article to use for the assignment. The other attachments are needed to do the assignment as well, but Article B is what needs to be used.
I have also added a little more info on what needs to be done.

Post by Day 3 a 3-paragraph analysis and evaluation of the article’s introduction and purpose statement. Discuss whether or not the U.S. police and court systems would have handled the case differently and, if so, how would it have been handled.

Amanda Knox was an American student in her early 20’s studying abroad at a university in Perugia, Italy. In November 2007 she was arrested, later charged and in 2009 she was found guilty of the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher. In 2011, an appellate court reviewed the matter and she was released from prison and allowed to return home to the United States.

This case received exclusive media attention all over the world. Much discussion has been had over the murder and the police and the forensic investigations, the statements and confessions of the parties involved, the trial and the appeal, prison conditions and also about the judicial pretrial publicity and the impact on the trial.

In a 3-5-page paper, and using APA style formatting, analyze this case in detail in terms of how it was handled in the Italian court system. Discuss in detail the appellate process that was employed. You must use outside and supporting sources and make sure to properly cite any outside sources that you use.

Discuss whether or not the U.S. police and court systems would have handled the case differently and, if so, how would it have been handled. Would the outcome have likely been different in the United States? Would the prison sentence have been different? What does this case say about prison conditions? What about the handling of the appeal within the two systems – how does that differ?

Finally, select one of the four major legal systems in the world: Civil law, socialist law, Islamic law, and common law. Suppose that you are advising an individual travelling to a county which follows each of these different systems – what advice would you give this individual in terms of how these systems differ and why? How does the system that you selected handle appeals?

Explain the possible or likely characteristics of those who helped in your example as well as the probable characteristics of those who demonstrated negative behavior.

The assignment (2–to 3 pages):

  • Briefly describe the “event” you selected.
  • Then describe one example of prosocial or helping behavior and one example of antisocial or negative behavior in groups related to the event.
  • Analyze the people’s prosocial behaviors using the theories, concepts, and perspectives presented in the text:
    • The evolutionary perspective
    • The sociocultural perspective
    • The learning perspective
    • The decision-making perspective
    • The Attribution Theory
    • The negative-state model
    • Motives for helping
    • Concepts related to bystander intervention
  • Explain the possible or likely characteristics of those who helped in your example as well as the probable characteristics of those who demonstrated negative behavior.
  • Explain any aspects of the event itself that influence/elicit prosocial and antisocial behavior.
  • Explain the role, if any, of culture in the prosocial and antisocial behaviors displayed.
