You may also want to review the following recommended resources: “Piaget’s Enduring Contribution to Developmental Psychology,” “On Major Developments in Preschoolers’ Imagination,” “Lev Semyonovich Vygotsky (1896-1934),” and “Jean Piaget (1896-1980)” articles,  After examining the research in human development, choose and complete one of the following options:

Option A: Piaget’s theory on cognitive development has contributed a unique perspective to our understanding of how children think, reason, and solve problems. Examine and identify the main tenets of Piaget’s theory of cognitive development (i.e., schema, assimilation, and accommodation) describing them in your own words.

Examine the cognitive factors Piaget presents in relation to human development. Briefly identify and describe his stages of cognitive development by illustrating the cognitive tasks that infants, children, or young adults are capable (or not capable) of performing.

Alternatively, instead of describing the stages, you may create a chart in which the abilities that define cognitive development in Piaget’s theory are plotted against the age at which they are acquired. Identify at least one aspect of Piaget’s theory that has been criticized and mention the evidence upon which this criticism is based.

Option B: Vygotsky’s theory of cognitive development has contributed a unique perspective to our understanding of how children think, reason, and solve problems. Examine and identify the main tenets of Vygotsky’s theory of cognitive development (i.e., zone of proximal development, scaffolding, relationship between language and thought) describing them in your own words. In addition, you will need to examine the cognitive factors Piaget presents in relation to human development. Briefly identify and discuss Vygotsky’s view of cognitive development by illustrating the cognitive tasks that infants, children, or young adults are capable (or not capable) of performing.  Identify at least one aspect of Vygotsky’s theory that has been criticized, and mention the evidence upon which this criticism is based.

Demonstrates an outstanding use of appropriate, relevant, and compelling content with excellent expression of topic, main idea, and purpose.

he essence of presentation is making yourself known, along with your ideas. There are at least two reasons to begin the planning of any presentation with a consideration of yourself. The first is that your knowledge of yourself and what you are thinking about provides a solid foundation for elaborating on your ideas and your topics. The second is that your constant self-assessment means that you can define and communicate your own feelings and beliefs about a topic from a deeper level of metacognition, or self-knowledge, and can therefore think more critically and objectively about your topic.

Before building a presentation, consider the types of things that you have done and the types of things that are important to you. These things will be woven into every presentation you give, whether formal or informal, large or small, and regardless of the topic. Here, you will think about yourself as a primary topic and reflect upon your own academic and professional goals. This approach to preparation will influence the ways in which you present in the future.

Part A

In paragraph form, answer the following questions that may affect how you think about presentations, your topics, and your audience:

  • What is your “story”? How would you summarize your life’s experiences?
  • How have those experiences, overall, shaped you as a professional? How have they shaped you as a university student?
  • What have you learned from your previous experiences in making formal or informal presentations to others?

Part B

For this part of the assignment, you will be preparing or updating your resume. Upon reflection of your answers in Part A, rethink your resume, and update it as appropriate to incorporate your experiences and goals. In addition, review your resume format. If you already have a template for your resume that works, that’s great.

Explain fIVE reliable and trustworthy sources related to your chosen issue.

NNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY ASSIGNMENT (Part 1 of project) Your annotated bibliography is an assignment to assist you in researching your topic for your presentation. You will find FIVE reliable and trustworthy sources related to your chosen issue. These sources should provide information regarding the impact of your topic at the local, national and global levels. Remember that you will have to look at more than five sources to find ones that are relevant and applicable. The annotated bibliography includes the citation for each source, a brief summary of each source, and a one or two sentence evaluation of the source’s relevance to your issue. Listed below is a basic outline for you to follow, and the grading rubric. Format: 1. State your issue as a title or a problem statement at the top of your AB. 2. Cite each source in proper APA format. Each citation will come before the summary of that source. These should be organized in alphabetical order. 3. A brief summary of the source (book, chapter, research article, newspaper article, etc.) This should be no longer than one paragraph. It cannot be a copied paragraph or abstract! This would be plagiarism!! 4. 1-2 sentences that explain the relevance and importance of this information to your issue. Additional Guidelines: 1. Please write in an academic style. This is not a text or email to a friend. 2. Proofread for grammar, spelling and sentence clarity. 3. Include various sources. Try to find at least one peer-reviewed journal article which is research-based. 4. Complete, concise, and well-constructed annotations around 150 words each. (No longer than 250 words). Describe at least one experimental treatment that might improve movement in Joseph’s case, and explain how this treatment would impact Joseph’s nervous system.

  • Read the following case study:
    • Joseph is a 59-year-old construction worker who recently suffered a stroke. A small blood clot became lodged in one of the vessels serving the right side of his brain and restricted blood flow to a portion of his right precentral gyrus. Many neurons in that area were damaged or destroyed and, as a result, Joseph is partially paralyzed on the left side of his body. He is able to move his left leg and walk, and can also move his left arm, but his left hand and the left side of his face are paralyzed.
  • Answer the following questions about the case study:
    • Why were Joseph’s left face and hand paralyzed, but not the rest of his arm or his leg?
    • What is preventing Joseph from moving his left hand? In your answer, include the following:
      • First, describe normal function of a motor neuron that forms a synapse with a muscle cell. How is the signal that initiates movement transmitted from the neuron to the muscle? Describe this process in detail.
      • Next, keeping in mind that the motor neuron itself is not damaged, explain how damage or destruction of a neuron that communicates with the motor neuron prevents Joseph from moving his hand.
    • With time, and perhaps some physical therapy, Joseph may recover some of the movement in his left hand and face. What factors might contribute to this recovery? In your answer, include the following:
      • Why can’t Joseph’s brain simply replace those neurons that were damaged and destroyed by the stroke?
      • How might compensation allow Joseph to regain some of his lost movement?
      • Describe at least one experimental treatment that might improve movement in Joseph’s case, and explain how this treatment would impact Joseph’s nervous system.

Enhance the readability of the chart by making 10 percent the lowest vertical axis value and 60 percent the highest vertical axis value.

It stands to reason that religious attendance and opinions about pornography could be causally linked: In a comparison of individuals, people who frequently attend religious services will be more likely to think that pornography should be outlawed than will people who attend less frequently or not at all. Education is related to pornography opinions, too, in that more educated people have more permissive attitudes than do the less educated. A. The control table below will allow you to analyze the religious attendance–pornography opinions relationship, controlling for level of education.12 The table displays raw numbers only. For example, in the low-education group, 282 individuals have low attendance. Of these, 71 said pornography should be illegal to all, and 211 said that pornography should not be illegal to all. Construct a complete control table from this information. figure B. Decide which pattern—spuriousness, additive, or interaction—best describes the set of relationships. (i) Write out each of the rhetorical questions, introduced in this chapter, that help you determine the pattern. (ii) Write a complete sentence answering each question. C. Draw a line chart of the attendance–pornography opinions relationship, controlling for education. The values of religious attendance will appear along the horizontal axis. The vertical axis will record the percentages of respondents saying “illegal to all.” Enhance the readability of the chart by making 10 percent the lowest vertical axis value and 60 percent the highest vertical axis value.
