n order to really learn about interviewing, you must practice doing interviews. There is no substitute for direct experience in learning about interviewing. This assignment will be the first of several interviews you conduct during this course.

Find a volunteer to role-play a client. The purpose of this assignment is to introduce you to the experience of formulating questions and gathering information during a clinical interview. You are not expected to have mastered these skills in week 1 nor even by the end of this course. Clinical interviewing is a skill that requires a lot of practice and years of training.

Here, you will simply interview the volunteer who is role-playing a client that is having trouble at work. Be sure to develop a plan for the interview ahead of time. What is the purpose of your interview?  How will you achieve that purpose?

Be sure to follow the ethical guidelines you have read about, including competence, confidentiality, and informed consent. The interview should be at least 10 minutes in length but no more than 20 minutes.

After you complete your interview, provide a thoughtful discussion of the following:

• How did you prepare for the interview? Be sure to list the questions used in your interview and provide a brief summary of the content of your interview.
• How long was the interview?  How much effort was required to keep the interview to the required 10-20 minute timeframe?
• What things made the interview difficult or uncomfortable? Be as specific as possible.  For example, were there things you or your client said or did during the interview that were uncomfortable?
• What factors made the interview welcoming and comfortable?  Again be as specific as possible.
• Did you think you were effective in probing and obtaining information?
• As appropriate, cite the online content, the textbook, and other credible, scholarly sources to substantiate the points you are making.
• Apply APA standards for writing and citations to your work.

Assignment 1: Setting up a Financial Statement

As a nonaccounting manager, you will examine your company’s financial statements as well as the financial statements of other companies. You must be able to recognize differences in these statements and have a general understanding of the various accounts listed on each statement.

In this assignment, you will determine the nature of various financial statement accounts, using the example of Compnet International.

Note: You will apply your learning from this assignment to calculate ratios for Compnet in the discussion for this week.

Tasks:

Consider the following scenario for this assignment: You are a manager at Compnet and your CEO has asked you to break down the financial statements into categories of accounts so that you can analyze trends within the company.

Part I: Computations

Select the links that follow to download and review the financial statements of Compnet International:

As you create the new Excel worksheet, use the prepared financial statements of Compnet.

Complete the following:

• Create a horizontal trend analysis of the reported Compnet financial statements. This worksheet should list each financial statement (balance sheet and income statement in this order) on two Excel worksheets (one worksheet file).
• In column A, you would list each account on the statement (make sure you show the various categories of accounts).
• In column B and following, you would present the annual totals of each account with a monetary difference (absolute) column to compare one year to the next year and a percentage difference column.
• Therefore, for each of the two years reported, you will have Y1, Y2, Difference, and Percentage Difference columns. Your trend analysis must include three historical years. Therefore you need to compare Y1 to Y2 and then Y2 to Y3 (fiscal years 2012–2014).

Part II: Summary

After completing the computations on each of the three financial statements, provide a 1-page summary of the trends that you have observed. Describe the material trends by the category of accounts. Did that category of account increase, decrease, and if so by what amount and percentage. Remember to only discuss the major or material trends that you have observed.

Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Submit both parts 1 and 2 together and be sure to clearly label each part.

Suppose that there are two products: clothing and soda. Both Brazil and the United States produce each product. Brazil can produce 100,000 units of clothing per year and 50,000 cans of soda. One strategy that has proven effective for improving population health outcomes is screening. Screening programs for breast, cervical, prostate, and colon cancer allow for early detection and treatment, thereby improving health outcomes. Advocates of early screening programs have sought to inform populations at risk of the value of participating in early screening.

Consider the following examples: In Florida, mobile mammography units have reached out to uninsured women and provided free mammograms. In Maryland, Wellmobiles go out into the community to provide primary and preventive health care services to geographically underserved communities and uninsured individuals across the state. Many such programs are available for individuals to participate in screening, regardless of ability to pay.

In this Assignment, you will evaluate the characteristics of preventive health programs that lead to successful outcomes.
