Describe in detail how you will conduct the research needed to determine the best alternative to recommend to your employer.

Due Week 3 and worth 150 points

In Assignments 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3, you will be building up a formal, researched justification report (one part at a time) that culminates in a recommendation to implement a particular product, service, or program in your place of employment. This recommended product, service, or program should resolve a problem that you identify in your workplace and should be directed to your employer (even if you do not actually plan to share it with your employer).

Use the basic outline below to draft Assignment 2. Organize your responses to each question under the following section headings:

  • Problem Statement (for Question 1)
  • Overview of Alternatives (for Question 2)
  • Criteria (for Question 3)
  • Methods (for Question 4)

Using the provided template, write Part 1 of a single-spaced report in which you:

  1. Discuss in detail a problem at work, persuading and convincing the reader that it needs fixing.
  2. Provide a detailed description of two (2) possible solutions (“alternatives”) that could be implemented to resolve the problem identified in Question 1.
  3. List and detail five (5) criteria that you will use to measure the worth of each alternative in Question 2. Note:The alternative that satisfies the most criteria to the highest degree will be the one you recommend later to your employer (in Assignment 2.3). Criteria are standards that the audience values and are therefore used to measure the worth of each alternative (common examples include cost, desirability, durability, efficiency, time it will take to implement, and practicality).
  4. Describe in detail how you will conduct the research needed to determine the best alternative to recommend to your employer. Note: This is a one to two (1-2) paragraph description of what research needs to be completed in order to evaluate the alternatives. This is not a detailed procedure for solving the problem.

Your assignment must:

  • Be typed, single spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, your name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Support ideas or claims in body paragraphs with clear details, examples, and explanations.
  • Organize ideas logically by using transitional words, phrases, and sentences.
  • Use sentence variety and effective word choice in written communication.
  • Apply writing process strategies to develop formal business reports and / or proposals.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues related to selected topics.
  • Write clearly and concisely using proper writing mechanics.

Describe the specific steps that you must perform in order to appropriately construct the database model.

Optimizing Database Design” Please respond to the following:

•Many legacy systems require normalization. Identify at least two factors that should be considered in order to produce an optimal normalized set of tables when performing normalization. Include in your discussion a detailed example on how each factor would eliminate data redundancy.

•Optimal database design recognizes proper organization of table structures and relationships. Suggest at least two methods that can be used to improve the design of a database system.

Week 4 Discussion 2

“Denormalization Functionality” Please respond to the following:

•Having an adequate data model to serve specific business needs of an organization is important. Evaluate the need for denormalization within an organization. Provide at least three examples that prove denormalization is useful to data consumers.

•Using a data-modeling checklist can help database developers design efficient data repositories. Suggest at least two possible scenarios that could take place if one of the steps in the data-modeling checklist is missed.

Week 5 Discussion 1

“Relational Set Operators”

•A relational Database Model allows database users to analyze data thoroughly. To accomplish this, advanced commands such as UNION and INTERSECT may be used.  Describe a business scenario where a UNION relational set operator may be used to merge two similar data sets. Within the context of your business scenario, analyze the analysis and data consistency advantages of using a UNION operator rather than simply merging two data sets into one result table.

•Suppose you are tasked with finding common data elements amongst various data sets. Specify how an INTERSECT operator may assist you in accomplishing this task. Construct a query that can perform the same function as the INTERSECT operator without using the “INTERSECT” syntax within the query. Note: The Strayer Oracle Server may be used to test and compile the SQL Queries developed.

Week 5 Discussion 2

“Advanced SQL and PL / SQL” Please respond to the following:

•Extracting and interpreting data can be very valuable to an organization. Describe the importance of using sub queries in a database system. Provide at least two business case scenarios to support your response.

•A good IT professional is able to be versatile in SQL programming styles. Identify at least two possible advantages of utilizing PL / SQL instead of standard SQL Syntax. Explain whether either syntax provides enhanced code processing capabilities with examples. Note: The Strayer Oracle Server may be used to test and compile the SQL Queries developed.

Week 6 Discussion 1

“Planning the DBLC” Please respond to the following:

•The development of a database requires thorough methodology that ensures quality within the solution. Imagine you have been contracted to develop a finance database that will help an organization track monthly expenditures by departments. Using the DBLC, discuss the various activities that you would have to achieve each phase. Assess possible challenges that may exist within each phase. Suggest actions that one can perform in order to overcome these possible challenges.

List additional servers or network devices needed to implement the network.

You have been hired as part of the networking team at UMUC. After completing orientation and training in your first week, your manager calls you into a meeting to discuss your first project.

The university has recently leased a building in Adelphi, Maryland. The building will house some offices, classrooms, a library, and computer labs. Security is very important for UMUC, as the university must protect students’ and employees’ data, as well as any intellectual property that UMUC has on its servers and computers. As a result, IT management would like to take the time to review some proposals on how best to move forward. As a network engineer, you have been asked to prepare a network proposal on how to set up a secure network infrastructure in this new building to support university operations.

After speaking to your manager, you are excited about the project, but you realize you will have a busy schedule. As you write your proposal, you will also have to prepare for the Network+ Certification exam. One of the conditions of your employment at this company is that you obtain this certification within 60 days of being hired. You will have to manage your time wisely, because you will have to take a practice certification test just as you are completing your final project.

In this learning demonstration, you will use the TestOut Network Pro (LabSim) to learn about the different types of networks and how to configure them. These activities will prepare you for the CompTIA Network+ Certification exam. In order to identify your strengths and weaknesses, you will first complete the Network+ Certification Practice exam. The practice exam is designed to assess your preparedness for the CompTIA Network+ certification exam. Then, during the course of the next eight weeks, as you step through each set of activities in LabSim, you will also be drafting sections of your design proposal.

Use the results of the certification practice exam you took at the beginning of the class to help guide you on which areas within LabSim you should pay closer attention to. You must complete all online labs in LabSim; these are the activities with the computer mouse icon. Some of the other areas in LabSim are optional. You can complete any or all of those if you feel you need to learn more about the topics at hand.

To get started, follow the steps below.

OVERVIEW
