Introduction

A democratic society can therefore be defined by the existence of metropolitan groupings within it. Metropolitan refers to the existence of individuals drawn from different culture. A proposal to place a ban on the different religious symbols in the public sector is tantamount to stopping the individuals who use these symbols from expressing their different faiths.
I believe a ban needs to be placed on the use of these religious symbols by individuals who have been employed in the public sector because they are an indication of bias on the part of the individuals who put them on are bound by a secular law that has been designed in such a manner that it provides no favoritism towards any religious grouping. Because of this, they need to present themselves in a matter that suggests this secular position held by the law.
The religious symbols that are being discussed in this context are outward expressions of religion through large crucifixes for Christians, Pendants, Hijabs for Muslims, turbans for Sikhs and also traditional tunics for Buddhists among others.
The first reason why these need to be banned from the public sector is for the personal safety of the employees. By exposing their religion to those around them, these people make themselves easy targets for discrimination. Discrimination may lead to verbal and in extreme cases even physical attacks. The third reason why these symbols need to be banned is the fact that some of the positions of public officials come with some form of authority. It will be unfortunate if the decisions of some of these people appear to be influenced by their religion rather than their work ethic. Even if the mistakes of these individuals are not influenced by their faiths, the outward symbols they display will send that message thus working to their disadvantage.

At the same time, the lives of those around these individuals will be easier as they will be able to interact with their workmates without any inhibitions, prejudice or fear of any form of reprisal that arises from religious tensions.
