Adverse Trend and Data Management

Adverse Trend and Data Management

Public concern and interest about patient safety has increased tremendously. Most countries have initiated policies to augment patient safety. Many states have also enacted rules and regulation to address the adverse trends in technology. Inherently, the adverse trends in technology have enhanced a strong impact in reducing the medical errors or risks that hinder quality care. Health IT has been an indispensable tool for hospitals navigating towards patient safety. This research identifies an adverse trend that could enhance quality care within an organization. Further, the paper provides a flow chart that identifies how this research will collect, review, and implements data that affects patients’ being.

Research Questions

To fully understand what needs to be done to enhance quality, this research will evaluate whether patients receive adequate care that augment their well-being. Typically, the research will respond to the trend question, what are the technological tools that would enhance quality care to patients?

Data Collection

This research would need to collect information from patients and the management team in the hospital on what needs to be done to boost patients’ care. Through interviews and open ended questionnaires, this research would identify areas in the hospitals that require immediate improvement or intervention. Specifically, the research would have a chance to gather information from patients on whether the hospital has improved their health outcome and whether doctors and nurses have provided sufficient support. Still, the management would have a chance to air their views on areas that require immediate intervention.

The chief benefit of using interviews and questionnaires to accumulate data is that, the two methods are cheaper and saves time in collecting information.  Through this method, this research would obtain valid findings in the hospital set-up. Essentially, patients and health care providers would have a chance to contribute their views on what needs to be done to enhance growth and quality care. Most importantly, the research would identify the adverse trend that needs to be implemented to enhance quality care. The collected data would affect the immediate response of the research in deciding suitable adverse trends that would affect patient well-being.

Technology Used

For a successful plan to improve quality care in the hospital, this research would embrace a number of technological tools to monitor, investigate, and patients’ care. Quintessentially, these technologies include electronic health records, computers, mobile technology, and surveillance cameras. In the first step, I would embrace implement technology to provide solutions in different segments in the hospital. These segments include home health care, medical testing labs, and pharmaceutical delivery. Overall, mobile technology would boost communication in the hospital. The technology could be used by doctors to exchange patients’ records with other doctors within that hospital without having to move from one department to the other. Mobile technology could increase patients’ satisfactory, increase productivity, and reduce operating cost. This technology could help the hospital to accomplish its tasks and goals in real time. Some of the ethical issues surrounding this technology are data privacy, confidentiality, and security. Ethically, health care providers should not disclose patients’ information to a third party without their consent (Jha, DesRoches, Kralovec & Joshi, 2010).

Secondly, the research would utilize electronic health records (EHR) systems to boost patient care. This technology could increase quality care by minimizing medical errors, coordinating patients effectively, and reducing the cost of health care. When health care providers use this technology, patients would receive efficient and better care.  Doctors and physicians would coordinate more effectively with patients without travelling in miles or from one department to another. Ethically, privacy and confidentiality are the major legal issues surrounding the use of EHR systems. Healthcare providers should not disclose patients’ information without their consent. To control information in the hospital, healthcare providers should have a password to store and retrieve information as discussed by Flores, Win & Susilo (2010).

Thirdly, the hospital would embrace surveillance cameras for security purposes. This technology would help the hospital to monitor various activities taking place. With this, the hospital would have security measures that protect its patients and employees. The ethical issue in regard to this technology is that, proper care should be imposed in the health care setting. The hospital should embrace all strategies that protect patients’ well-being. The essence of this technology is that, it would help the hospital to protect patients from activities that harm their well-being and safety (Tekin & Kilinç, 2010).
