For this paper you are to view an American horror film produced between 1932 and 1939. The film that you will be viewing is King Kong (1933) Directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedesack. Write a short essay in which you discuss the films “monster.” Determine that the monster is often rendered in sympathetic terms – why does the audience identify with it? Examine how the monster exhibits “otherness,” and how it relates to what is repressed or marginalized both in the self and society. Explore issues related to sexuality and reproduction – how is the monster created? Consider whether the film reflects ambivalence toward science, technology, and authority, and discuss reason why.
Try to get a sense of the social and cultural environment of the time.

Your first page should start one inch from the top of the paper.
