Attend Annual International Technology &
Persons with Disabilities Conference
(Sponsored by Cal State Northridge)

1.Students will register and visit the AT exhibit halls for at least
1 hour during a time of their choice.
2.Students will visit the exhibit hall vendors according to availability.
3.Students will write up a minimum 3 page response of their experience and upload on Blackboard. Written response will include the following:
a.Rubric cover sheet completed and self-scored
b.The date, times, and events/sessions attended.
c.Title and description of sessions attended.
d.List of exhibits and description of products observed
(5 10 examples).
e.Using the AT definition from the PowerPoint presentation on AT (see below), describe how the experiences and information learned at the conference will assist people with disabilities in their quest for independence.
f.Your turn: What was your overall impression of the conference and how did it relate to GS 420 course content?

AT Definition: Any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. (Tech Act, 1988; ATA, 1998 & amended in 2004)

CSUN 31st Annual International Technology and Persons with Disabilities Conference
CSUN sponsors an Assistive Technology Conference in San Diego each Spring. It is an amazing event and the conference does require a fee.

However, we have the opportunity to visit the exhibit halls for free. The assignment 5 is designed for you to discover some of the amazing AT devices, write a summary of the items that you were able to experience, and receive community service hours for traveling downtown.

You can register for a free pass to visit the exhibit halls. Every year at least one or more of our GS 420 students are able to take a picture with Stevie Wonder. This is one of his favorite conferences. And now that he is seriously famous not only for his music, but for his disability advocacy displayed that the Grammy Awards, you will want to meet him.

The location of this event is: Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel, One Market Place, San Diego. We recommend that you take the trolley or car pool. Parking at the hotel is $8 an hour, but I think you can also part in SeaPort Village.

The exhibit halls open on Wednesday, 3/23 at 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Thursdays and Fridays (3/24 & 3/25) the exhibit halls are open from 9:30 a.m – 5:00 p.m.
