Hi, Antonio:
Some of the requirements were met, but it seems there were some issues…
You said:” My final paper will be based on my former company Visual Sound.  The company uses an enterprise wide system called Filemaker version 12 that is utilized by all departments.  However this system is flawed and creates major issues for end-users.  I will analyses the current system and identify any discrepancies”  Please note that unless other directed,  using a first- or second-person narrative for a formal paper is not a good idea as it is better used for self-help and guide books. Formal, scholarly papers should be written in the third-person. For more on narrative mode, see http://prowritingtips.com/2009/03/understanding-narrative-mode/.
I found that you listed a lot of information. Please note that lists are mainly used for summarized information. When you have several items with significant detail you should not list them, but create one or more separate paragraphs for each.
Please note that your writing could be improved by using more transitions. For example, here’s an example with poor transition:”Fuel efficiency is an important aspect of the car purchasing decision. Overall cost is probably more important.” This is improved by showing contrast:”Fuel efficiency is an important aspect of the car purchasing decision. However, overall cost is probably more important.” The latter reads better and helps the reader understand what the writer had in mind.
There are numerous transition words. For example, there are words that:
…Show conclusion
…Repeat information
…Show comparison
…Show contrast or differences
For an exhaustive list, see http://writingcenter.unc.edu/resources/handouts-demos/writing-the-paper/transitions
Transitions or segues are also important for citations. For example:
According to Smith (2001, p.2), “The sky is blue.”
“The sky is blue” Smith (2001, p. 2).
In this case, the former is generally better than the latter.
Please know that you provided a lot of information that was not necessary. Good writing style dictates that you only covey the information that is necessary and supports the message. Wordiness makes writing less clear and precise. For example, here’s a wordy example: “As the world turns it is apparent to most astute observers that complexity has become the norm in our everyday lives.” A more precise and clear example would be, “The world has become a more complex place.” You get the idea 🙂
Just as a note, please be sure to define abbreviations before using them. Sudents frequently write something like this: “An organization should always refer to the ISO.” The problem is, ISO was not defined. Did the writer mean International Standards Organization or Independent Sales Organization? A better approach would be as follows:”An organization should always refer to the International Standards Organization (ISO).” From this point forward, the writer can use use the abbreviation ISO.
You said:” I will conduct an analysis of how the information flows in the current system.  I will look into standards and ways to help standardize processes to help increase productivity.  I will look into any security flaws and ways to add more control into the IT infrastructure.”  When answering questions in your papers, always be sure to explain why when you make a statement. For example, a student once stated:
“The board of directors plays an important role in compensation planning. Public company must have established a board of directors. The board of directors is the highest governing authority within the management’s structure at any publicity traded companies. The board of directors should be a fair representation of both management and shareholders interest.  The board of directors acts as the steward of the company for the benefit of the shareholders. The board of directors is a group of individuals elected by the ownership of a corporation to have supervision and direction over management and to look out for the shareholders interests.”
The problem with this statement is that it never says why. Why must public companies have an established a board of directors? Why are they the highest governing authority? Why do they have to  be a fair representation of both management and shareholders interest? The writer stated lots of facts without explaining why, which shows an overall lack of understanding.
Always explain why.
You wrote:” 2. The following documentation was studied: b) White papers, Filemaker Documentation”  Some statements in your paper seemed unconnected, poorly related, or not properly tied to the topic under discussion. This sometimes happens when students list facts (Googled?), but don’t explain why the facts matter in context of the topic. As a simply example, in answer to the question, why is the sky blue, a student may write: “The sky is made up of air. Light travels in waves. The sky is blue because we see light coming through he air.” Well, these facts are all correct (sort of), but they make little or no sense in response to the initial question. In context of the question, why does it matter that the sky is made up of air? What does light travelling waves matter? Remember that the reader needs to know why what you say matters in context of the topic. So, make sure it does.
Sorry, but please be sure to always submit commentary and explanation with all images, diagrams, and tables. When an assignment requires that you submit an image, diagram, or table, doing so without commentary or explanation does not demonstrate mastery of the material. Images, diagrams, and tables submitted without explanation will result in a lower grade.
Finally, Antonio, please be aware that my feedback comments are intended as constructive criticism, and are provided to help you learn. Please be sure to review each comment and make sure you understand the issue. If you are unclear or disagree about a specific issue, please let me know and we will discuss. Also, if a grading rubric was used, please be sure to review it as it contains additional feedback.
Thanks,
Dr. Revels
